NEET PG 2020 Topper interview: Kartik Agarwal (AIR 3)
Question: Congratulations Dr Agarwal. How are you celebrating your success?
Kartik Agarwal: Thank you so much, I am overjoyed. This is like a dream come true. In the past two-three days, I have been really busy with my friends and coaching institute. Everyone was celebrating my success.
Question: What motivated you to become a doctor?
Kartik Agarwal: I come from a non-medical background. One of my distant relatives became a doctor in the year 2005. This led to the dream that our family should also have a doctor. One thing led to the other, and I choose this profession.
Question: In which year did you complete your MBBS degree course? Can you tell something about your college?
Kartik Agarwal: I took admission into the Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur in 2014. I am currently an intern in the same college which is due for completion in the month of March.
Question: When did you start preparing for NEET PG 2020?
Kartik Agarwal: I was preparing for this examination throughout my MBBS but it became serious during my final year.
Question: What was your schedule during the preparation phase of NEET PG 2020? How many hours would you spare for self-study?
Kartik Agarwal: Throughout my MBBS, I used to study for 8-10 hours. But during my internship, I increased the duration to 10-12 hours. I had joined the face-to-face classes at Bhatia’s. These were weekend classes, so I used to spend around 8-10 hours there.
Question: How did you balance your NEET PG preparation and your internship?
Kartik Agarwal: In our college, the internship is not tiresome. PSM, Paediatrics and, Obstetrics and Gynaecology are a few departments that require you to remain on your toes. The other departments are relatively cooler and gave us time for preparation.
Question: Importance of coaching for NEET PG 2020 preparation?
Kartik Agarwal: Given the current scenario, coaching is a must. It may be online or offline, as per your comfort. The faculty is experienced and they know what to teach and how to teach. They help you with the basic framework, how to proceed with the preparation and give you an orientation about the exam. I made most of my notes in these classes, which proved to helpful.
Question: How did you prepare for NEET PG 2020?
Kartik Agarwal: As mentioned earlier, I started my preparation in the first year of my MBBS. I later joined face-to-face classes, where I made most of my notes. Towards the end of the final year, I joined an online teaching platform ‘Marrow’. I was more dependent on this app. I did a lot of reading here, watched preparation videos and solved many question banks.
By the month of June 2019, I was able to complete the notes of most of the subjects. Now I started focusing on revision.
Question: What was your exam day strategy for NEET PG 2020?
Kartik Agarwal: You must have a plan for the time of action. It is important to know what to do and also what not to do on the day of the examination.
Question: Many students complained about the technical errors that they had to face on the exam day. What was your experience?
Kartik Agarwal: Yes, that was very unfortunate. But luckily my centre did not have any such issues.
Question: Which stream are you going to choose now?
Kartik Agarwal: I have always been very clear about my choices. I want to pursue Medicine.
Question: Any advice to the future NEET PG aspirants?
Kartik Agarwal: You must identify the subjects where you are lacking and work towards strengthening them. After completion of the entire syllabus, focus on revision. Also, throughout your preparation take mock tests. Initially, you can solve a mock test every month but you must gradually increase it to at least two in a month.
I would also like to add that taking care of your health and eating habits during the preparation phase is very important. I have seen a lot of students who land up having health problems due to their ignorance. First take care of yourself and then take care of the studies. Believe in yourself and keep on doing hard work.
