What is UGC NET?
University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) or NTA UGC NET is a national-level exam conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for only Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor posts in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC NET 2024 exam will be held for a total of 83 subjects. The UGC NET syllabus 2024 differs for all 83 subjects and is prescribed by the University Grants Commission itself. Until June 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the NET exam on behalf of UGC. Now UGC NET exam is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
UGC NET Posts
The candidates who will qualify for the NET JRF and Assistant Professorship through the UGC NET 2024 will be offered an assistant professor's position or the position of a research scholar. The candidates can get the difference between these two positions below:
- Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): The candidates who will qualify for the JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) can apply for the position of assistant professor and research scholar. The research scholars will be paid a stipend of 35,000 (for the initial 2 years) and 42,000 (from the 3rd year) to complete their research in a specific field. The candidates qualifying for the JRF can also apply for the position of assistant professor in different universities along with a career as a research scholar.Â
- Assistant Professors: The candidates qualifying for the eligibility exam for the position of Assistant professor can apply for the position to teach in different universities/colleges. The candidates can also apply for the PhD. However, the candidates qualifying for the PhD will not be eligible to get any stipend from the Government to complete their PhD.Â
Q: Â What is the scope after qualifying UGC NET?
The UGC NET exam is taken for the candidates who are interested in PhD research and teaching as Assistant professor in colleges and univeristies of India. However, there are other career opportunities other than being Assisatnt Professor or a Research Scholar. The candidates who qualified for the UGC NET exam can apploy for the PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) such as Indian Oil Corporlation limited (IOCL), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), Oil and Natural Gas Corportaion (ONGC), etc.
The candidates who do not want to join any PSU can take up other options like online tutor, open their own coaching centres, guest faculty, consultant, Lab Trainer, IP lead, Author, Editor, Transmission Executive, Program Executive, etc.

Q: Â Can I apply for UGC NET if I have backlog in my post-graduation?
The following are the requirements for UGC NET Qualification for programs leading to Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowships:
It is recommended that candidates only appear in the post-graduation subject. Candidates may appear in a related subject if their post-graduation subject is not included in the UGC list of subjects.
Candidates are eligible for this test if they have completed a master's degree or an equivalent exam from a university or other institution recognised by UGC in the humanities (including languages), social sciences, computer Science & applications, electronic science, etc. with at least 55 per cent of the possible points (not rounding off).

Q: Â What is the exam shift timing for UGC NET exam?
The UGC NET exam is conducted in two shifts morning and evening. The NTA (National Testing Agency) will conduct the December session exam in more than 200 centres across India in several districts. The exam shift timing of the UGC NET 2024 exam is as follows: a) First Shift - 9.00 am to 12.00 pm b) Second Shift: 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm The candidates are advised to report to the exam centre 30 minutes before the GATE closing time to avoid any mishap at the exam centre. At the exa centre the candidates can bring a transparent water bottle, and ballpoint pen along with two photographs and photo identity proof.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) opens the correction window for the candidates after the closure of the UGC NET application form. The candidates can correct the mistakes that they have done while filling out the UGC NET application form. On the specific date released by the NTA, candidates can make corrections to their application form through the candidates' login. To log into the registered account the candidates have to use their application number and date of birth. After the login, the candidates can correct their mistakes.
However, the NTA does not allow some changes to the application form that are given below:
- No change allowed in the mobile number, email address, permanent address & correspondence address
- No change allowed in candidate’s name, date of birth and gender
- No change is allowed in the photo
- Change is allowed either in the father’s name or mother’s name (any one only)
The candidates' who do not verify their Adhaar Card can make corrections to the candidate's name, date of birth, and gender.

UGC NET Marks for PHD
The UGC NET results is divided into three categories. The detailed category-wise update has been given below:

No, you cannot appear for UGC NET exam in Commerce with a PG in Human Resource Management (HRM). The UGC NET exam is conducted for the recruitment of Assistant Professors and Junior Research Fellows in Indian universities. The exam is based on the subject you have chosen in your postgraduate degree. Since you have a PG in HRM, you can only appear for UGC NET exam in HRM
