UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2023: Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) conducts the Uttar Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test (UPTET) exam every year. Candidates who want to become Primary level or Upper-Primary level teachers in Uttar Pradesh schools need to fulfil the UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2023. It is suggested that the candidates should go through the detailed UPTET eligibility criteria before filling out the online application form. UPTET exam 2023 is a state-level test conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of teacher in the schools of Uttar Pradesh. Every year, lakhs of candidates appear for the teacher eligibility test to become teachers of Classes 1-8.

Q:   How many exam cities can candidates choose in UPTET exam?

A:
The UPTET (Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test) exam conducting authority generally allows candidates to select up to three exam cities while filling out the application form. Candidates can choose the exam cities of their choice depending on their convenience and proximity to their place of residence. However, it is important to note that the final allotment of the exam center is at the discretion of the exam conducting authority, and the authority may or may not allocate an exam center in the city chosen by the candidate. The authority reserves the right to change the exam center or cancel an exam center in case of any unforeseen circumstances. Candidates are advised to carefully choose the exam cities while filling out the application form and ensure that they can easily reach the exam center on the day of the exam.

The UPTET passing marks for the General category are 60% (90 marks out of 150). However, it is important to note that achieving the minimum qualifying marks does not guarantee selection for a teaching job. Candidates who pass the UPTET exam are eligible to apply for teaching jobs in primary and upper primary schools in the state of Uttar Pradesh, subject to fulfilling other eligibility criteria mentioned in the recruitment notification. Q:   How to get a job after qualifying for UPTET?

After qualifying the UPTET exam, the candidates are awarded with the eligibility Certificate. UPTET does not guarantee any job after the candidate qualifies the exam. Though, the candidates will become eligible for the recruitment exam after qualifying for the UPTET exam. The recruitment exam for recruiting teachers in the school of Uttar Pradesh. For Primary Level Teachers (Class 1 to 5): - The candidate must have passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination with at least 50% marks. - The candidate must have completed a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) or BTC (Basic Training Certificate) or NTT (Nursery Teacher Training) or 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd). 2. For Upper Primary Level Teachers (Class 6 to 8): - The candidate must have passed a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university with at least 50% marks. - The candidate must have completed a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) or BTC (Basic Training Certificate) or 2-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) or Special Education (B.Ed). Note: Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC/PwD may get some relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks and the educational qualifications required for appearing in the UPTET exam. It is important to check the official notification for the exact eligibility criteria for each category.

A:
The minimum qualifying marks for the UPTET exam are as follows: - For General and OBC candidates: 60% marks (90 marks out of 150) - For SC/ST candidates: 55% marks (82 marks out of 150) Candidates who score equal to or more than the minimum qualifying marks are considered to have qualified the UPTET exam. Q:   How many papers does one need to give to qualify the UPTET exam?

A:

Candidates planning to teach Classes 1 to 5 need to qualify UPTET Paper 1. Candidates planning to teach Classes 6 to 8 need to qualify for UPTET Paper 2. Candidates planning to teach Classes 1 to 8 need to qualify both papers. The candidates have to apply for the papers according to their eligibility set by the board. The educational qualification criteria has been given below for the candidates:

  • Paper 1 
    • Class 12 with minimum 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education
    • Class 12 with minimum 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4 years Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd)
  • Paper 2
    • Graduation with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education. Graduation with minimum 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing in one-year BEd.
  • Candidates should clear graduation in any discipline from a University Grants Commission (UGC) recognised university or college. However, after the completion of graduation, pursuing a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) is mandatory. Candidates in the final year of DElEd are also eligible to apply
  • Candidates should clear their graduation and post that should pass the Basic Training Certificate (BTC) for distance education as a Shiksha Mitra. Candidates in the final year are also eligible to apply
  • Candidates should clear graduation from a UGC-recognised university along with clearing a two-year duration Diploma in Education (DEd). Candidates in the final year of DEd are also eligible to apply
  • Candidates should clear graduation or post-graduation with a minimum of 50 per cent marks. Along with this, candidates should also be pursuing a Bachelor of Education (BEd)
  • Candidates should clear graduation or post-graduation with a minimum of 45 per cent marks. Along with this, candidates should also complete BEd
  • Candidates should complete their graduation along with BTC in Urdu. Candidates in the final year are also eligible to apply
  • Candidates should complete their graduation and also possess a diploma in teaching from Aligarh Muslim University
  • Candidates should have completed their graduation and acquired the degree of Moavill-E-Urdu before August 08, 1997
  • Candidates should complete their Class 12 with a minimum of 50 per cent marks. Along with this, candidates should also complete the four-year duration Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd)

UPTET Primary Sanskrit and English Teacher Eligibility 

  • Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject 
  • BCT from NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) approved institute OR,
  • Diploma (DEd) (2 years) from NCTE/ Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) approved institute OR,
  • 2-year CT (Nursery)/ Nursery Teacher Training (NTT) from an NCTE-approved institute

UPTET Primary Urdu Teacher Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s or Post Graduate Degree with Urdu as the main subject from a recognised university 
  • BTC from an NCTE-approved institute in Uttar Pradesh Or,
  • BCT (2 years) in Urdu training in Uttar Pradesh Or,
  • Moallim-E-Urdu Degree holder before 11-08-1997

UPTET Upper Primary Teacher Eligibility (6 to 8)

Applicants need to satisfy any one of the Upper Primar Teacher Eligibility to apply for UPTET Upper Primar Teacher:

  • Candidates should complete their graduation from a recognised college or university. Along with this, candidates should also complete a two-year duration DElEd (BTC)
  • Candidates should clear graduation or post-graduation with a minimum of 50 per cent marks. Along with this, candidates should also complete BEd/BEd Special Education. Candidates in the final year of BEd/BEd Special Education are also eligible to apply
  • Candidates should complete their Class 12 with a minimum of 50 per cent marks. Along with this, candidates should complete a four-year duration BScEd/ BSc BEd from a UGC/National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) recognised institution. Candidates in the final year of BScEd/BSc B.Ed are also eligible to apply
  • Candidates should complete their Class 12 with a minimum of 50 per cent marks. Along with this, candidates should also complete a four-year BElEd. Candidates in the final year of BElEd are also eligible to apply
  • Candidates should complete their graduation with a minimum of 50 per cent marks. Along with this, candidates should also complete a one-year duration BEd. Candidates in the final year of BEd are also eligible to apply

UPTET Upper Primary Sanskrit and English Teacher Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject AND BTC/ CT (Nursery) from an NCTE-approved institute  Or,
  • Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject and minimum 50 per cent marks AND BEd / BEd special degree from NCTE/RCI approved institute  Or,
  • Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject and minimum 45 per cent marks AND BEd Degree

UPTET Upper Primary Urdu Teacher Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s or Post Graduate Degree with Urdu as the main subject from a recognised university 
  • BTC from an NCTE-approved institute in Uttar Pradesh Or,
  • BEd/BEd Special Degree from NCTE/RCI approved institute Or,
  • BCT (2 years) in Urdu training in Uttar Pradesh Or,
  • Moallim-E-Urdu Degree holder before 11-08-1997 Or,

UPTET Eligibility 2023: Nationality

Candidates who are citizens of India/Nepal/Bhutan/Tibet are eligible to fill out the UPTET Application Form.  

UPTET Eligibility 2023: Age Limit & Number of Attempts         

Candidates should be aged between 18 and 35 years to apply for the UPTET exam. However, there is no limit on the number of attempts, candidates can take any number of attempts for the UPTET exam.

UPTET Eligibility Criteria for Reserved Category Candidates

  • General category candidates who score 60 per cent or above (90/150 marks) in UPTET 2023 exam are awarded the UPTET certificate

The UPTET certificate is now valid for a lifetime. Candidates will be able to apply for teacher recruitment in Uttar Pradesh schools using the UPTET certificate 2023. The eligibility certificate is awarded after the UPTET result declaration. The UPTET certificate is now valid for a lifetime. Earlier, the certificate was valid for five years.

It may be noted here that the UPTET is not a recruitment exam. No candidates will be given jobs after the exam. A. Yes, the UPTET eligibility certificate is now valid for a lifetime. The UPTET certificate was earlier valid for a period of five years. The NCTE extended the validity of TET certificates in 2021. The candidates can get their certificates from DIET (District Institutes of Education and Training). The candidates have to be present on the certificate centres to collect their certificates. The candidates must bring the admit card to collect their UPTET certificate from the centres.
