Life at CUTN : What does the Chemistry department of CUTN offer?
Placements: The placement in my college could be treated as average compared to other universities offering the same course. Around 20% of students get placed. Most of the students opt for higher studies as the institute is focused on research. The top recruiting companies includes TCS, Infosys, Federal Bank, Aakash Byjus, ESAF Small Finance Bank, CMFRI etc. The top roles offered were officer post and academic instructor post. The highest salary package to my knowledge was 12 LPA and the lowest package is around 2.5 LPA which seems reasonable. About 95%-100% of students perform internship in our course as it is deemed mandatory in our curriculum. Students get to do internship in highly esteemed scientific research institute like IITs, IISERs, IISc, JNCASR, CSIR-NIIST, CSIR-CECRI and also in famous industries as well.
Infrastructure: The Department of Chemistry is fully equipped with almost all the facilities a student could wish for. It has almost every piece of equipment required for scientific research, which includes 400MHz NMR, UV & IR spectrophotometers, DSC, LC-HRMS, GCMS, supercomputer, etc. labs are well maintained and have an adequate supply of chemical. Classrooms are average. They have a seminar and conference hall which is air-conditioned and well maintained. The University has a beautiful library, one of the best in India. Hostels are above average, with a very reasonable rent. It has almost every facilities. Food quality is average. You have a variety of food choices in canteens. The university has a 24/7 working health center with highly qualified doctors and good nursing care. The service is excellent and totally free of charge. There is an indoor playing facility for badminton. There are football, basketball, cricket, kho-kho, handball, and volleyball courts.
Faculty: The teachers in my department are highly qualified and knowledgeable. Teaching quality can be considered excellent. They are well-trained professors who are at the top of their field. Most of them have years of experience in teaching. Yes, the curriculum is relevant. It is revised from time to time depending on future requirements. Semester exams are moderately difficult. But students studying at the college are above average. So most of them tend to clear almost every exam. My pass percentage is above 90% for my department.
Other: I chose this course because I have a deep passion for the subject. The best thing about the course is the availability of high-end instruments and facilities in a very cheap fee package. Improvements can be made to the infrastructure. Food festivals, cultural events, and sports tournaments are conducted from time to time to keep the campus alive. Various scholarship opportunities are provided by the central and state governments.
