CUSAT BTech Eligibility & Highlights 2024
Cochin University offers a full-time four-year BTech regular programme in 11 specialisations. The four-year programme is divided into eight semesters. Admission to all the BTech programmes is through CUSAT CAT, except for Marine Engineering. For BTech in Marine Engineering at CUSAT University, candidates have to appear for the CET (Common Entrance Test) conducted by Indian Maritime University.
The university also offers a BTech (lateral entry) programme from the third semester of a regular BTech course. The BTech (LEET) programme at CUSAT is available in 15 specialisations. Admission to a lateral entry programme is through the CUSAT CAT score. Apart from lateral entry, the university also offers BTech (Part-time) courses for three years.
CUSAT offers BTech courses on campus and through affiliated colleges like Cochin University College of Engineering Kuttanad, Toc H Institute of Science & Technology, College of Engineering, Chengannur, etc.

BTech Regular
- Candidates who have passed the Class 12 examination of the state of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects with at least 50% marks separately and 50% aggregate (45% aggregate for SEBC candidates of Kerala) in all the three subjects put together can apply for CUSAT BTech programme.
- Candidates belonging to Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible to apply if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination.

BTech (Lateral Entry)
- Any three-year Diploma in Engineering/ Technology awarded by a Board of Technical Education recognised by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Kerala, with not less than 60% aggregate (55% aggregate for SEBC candidates of Kerala) is accepted for BTech (LE). The maximum age prescribed is 25 years as on 1st July of the current academic year.
- For B Tech Lateral Entry in Mechanical Engineering/Polymer Science and Engineering, a three-year Diploma in Plastic Technology and Diploma in Plastic Mould Technology offered by CIPET is also included in the minimum qualification required.
BTech (Part-time)
A pass in the Diploma Examination in Engineering/Technology conducted by the State Board of Technical Education, Kerala or other states or any other equivalent examination after undergoing an institutional course of a minimum of three years duration with a minimum of 50% aggregate or equivalent is required for BTech (PT). In the case of candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST/OEC categories, the relaxation in minimum marks required shall be as per the norms followed by the University for other BTech programmes. Q: Is CUSAT good for BTech?
BTech is one of the top courses of CUSAT. Talking about the curriculum, the university provides in-depth knowlege of BTech specialisation. The programme is quite affordable as compared to many of the good BTech offering universities. The total tuition fee for BTech ranges between INR 85,800 and INR 8.6 Lacs depending on the specialisation selected by the candidate.
Talking about placements, the highest and average package offered during CUSAT BTech placements 2023 stood at INR 25 LPA and INR 5.88 LPA, respectively. Moreover, a total of 150 companies visited the campus during CUSAT BTech placements 2023.
Q: Is 12000 a good rank in CUSAT for BTech?
Looking at the previous-year General All-India CUSAT CAT ranks for BTech, there is a less chance of getting into the programme with a rank of 12,000. Candidates can get a seat but not in top specialisations like Computer Science Engineering, Naval Architecture and Ship Building, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, etc. Students must secure a rank under 1,000 to get a seat in the preffered BTech specialisation at CUSAT.

Q: What is the fee for BTech CSE at CUSAT?
The total tuition fee for BTech in CSE at CUSAT is INR 3.61 lakh. CUSAT CAT is used for BTech course admission. The primary requirements for admission to the BTech Computer Science programme are a Class 12 certificate and an overall percentage of 50% in PCM and 50% in Mathematics. While SEBC students from Kerala State (non-creamy layer category) are entitled toa 5% relaxation in qualifying exam scores, the Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) populations simply need pass marks.

CUSAT BTech Admission 2024: How to Apply?
CUSAT admission is a multi-step process. Below are step-wise details for getting a seat in CUSAT BTech programme:
STEP 1: CUSAT BTech Application Process 2024
Cochin University of Science and Technology application process is carried out in online mode only. Only the candidates who submit the form successfully become eligible to appear for the entrance exam and to take admission. The multi-step to follow for registration and form submission are as follows:

Step 1.1: Visit CUSAT admission page (admission.cusat.ac.in) and click on “New Candidate Registration”.
Step 1.2: Fill out personal details and reservations (if applicable).
Step 1.3: Upload a recent passport size photograph in portrait orientation. Also, a scanned image of your signature in landscape orientation. The images shall be in .png or .jpg or .jpeg format.
- For Photograph – Upload a passport-size photo with dimension 150 px X 57 px and file size not more than 500 KB.
- For Signature – File size shall not be more than 100 KB and the dimension should be 130 px X 57 px
Step 1.4: Select the programme or combination of programmes.
Step 1.5: After submission of course details, check all the details on the short preview.
Step 1.6: Pay the application fee through credit/debit cards or net banking.
Step 1.7: Select the preferred test centre.
Step 1.8: Take a printout of the confirmation page and keep it safe for future requirements.
STEP 2: Selection Rounds
CUSAT conducts CUSAT CAT to provide admission to BTech courses. The university also conducts a Lateral Entry Test (LET) to shortlist aspirants for BTech (LE) courses. LET is a three-hour test including 200 objective-type questions designed to test proficency in English, Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, Engineering Graphics and General Engineering.
The university shortlists candidates for BTech (PT) courses based on merit in the last qualifying exam and admission test conducted by the department. CUSAT also considers the number of years of experience of candidates after obtaining the diploma. Below is the weightage:

STEP 3: Rank List
The final rank list for BTech admission will be based on aptitude test, LET or CUSAT CAT score, and merit of the aspirants in the last qualifying exam. The university will release a rank list considering all the selection components.
STEP 4: Admission Confirmation
After the release of the rank list, selected candidates must come for document verification and CUSAT CAT Counselling. They need to pay a course fee to confirm their seat at the university.

BTech (LE)
10% of the total strength of Individual Branches of Regular BTech programmes plus any vacant seats in each branch in the previous year batch. 50% of total seats are under All India Merit and 50% are under State Merit. An additional 10% of the total seats will be available under EWS (Economically Weaker Section) as supernumerary seats over and above the sanctioned strength.
Seat Reservation
- Out of the total approved seats of Self-financing BTech programmes 50% are earmarked as State Merit Seats with lower rate of fees.
- Out of the total approved seats of Self-financing BTech programmes 45% of seats are earmarked as All India Merit Seats with higher rate of fees.
- For the regular B Tech Programmes viz. B Tech in (Naval Architecture and Ship Building), BTech (Instrumentation and Control Engineering) and BTech (Polymer Science and Engineering) and for all programmes other than self-financing B Tech Programmes 10% of the total approved seats are earmarked as All India Quota.
