B.Tech. in Safety and Fire Engineering - Batch of 2026
4.2

School of Engineering provides high-quality education in major engineering.
Placements: Around 100% of placements are ensured by safety and fire department. If a student has no active backlogs, they will surely be placed. Top companies are GAIL (Gas Authority India Limited), CAIRN, Alstom, L&T, Reliance, Tata, Indian Oil, ONGC, etc. The average salary package offered is around 10 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 6 LPA. The highest salary package offered is 22 LPA.
Infrastructure: Hostel accommodation for around 600 male and 700 female students is available for undergraduate, postgraduate, and research students. Main campus has Sanathana, Siberia, Sarovar, and Post metric hostels for boys and men's hostels. Aiswarya, Athulya, Anaswara, and post metric hostels for girls and ladies' hostels. OBC has post metric hostel for girls and ladies' hostel. Lakeside campus has Cochin University Marine Science campus hostel and men's hostel. Campus cafe is open from 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM on all working days including Saturday. A wide variety of South Indian and North Indian dishes are available. During lunch time meals are available at very nominal rates. Library has a special collections section which is one of the best in India. Truly a treasure house of doctoral like patents, WHO, and other UNO documents, census reports, art books, Vikasana Rekha (Development Reports), and books on library and information science.
Other: The initiative undertaken in this regard by CUSAT is a classic instance of how nature's beautiful resources can be put to optimum use to tackle water scarcity. In 2012, CUSAT campus faced water crisis and had to rely on tankers to meet its water requirements. The issue prompted this university to look for solutions. Later, a decision was taken to construct a pond on campus. Ever since the pond - constructed by the Engineering Department of this university - became a reality, water shortage became a thing of the past.

CUSAT is among Kerala's best, with great campus life and academics.
Placements: Placement opportunities are very high in this university. B. Tech Safety and Fire, Naval Architecture, and Shipbuilding have 100% placement in the last years. In other courses also, they are providing high-package jobs. Several public sector undertakings are also coming for placements to pick students.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are also great. According to the allowance, most of the students get their hostels at a very low cost. Under their admission, other students can also get the hostel at a very low cost as guests. Drinking water facilities like hot and cold water are also available readily there. The freedom that we get in the hostels is really good compared to any other hostel in Kerala. Parking facilities for student vehicles are also there. The classrooms are smart rooms, including smart class boards, TVs, projectors, etc.
Faculty: Teachers are really good. They are very supportive during the placement drive and in project and seminar presentations. Teachers are also supportive in giving previous questions for all students, especially for the students who are writing supplementary exams. Most of the professors here right now are experienced in many industries, so they give us practical ideas about what we are studying. And the professors here have many connections with people in those industries. So it is easier for us students and placement coordinators to connect with the company for campus placement drives.
Other: I chose this course because I have a big opportunity in this section in my career. And the package provided by this course is very big compared to any other college in Kerala. I also have a big opportunity for learning and developing extracurricular activities. You can easily participate in any sports and tech events and contribute.

Only for placements, this college is good; for other facilities and infrastructure, it's very bad.
Placements: Placements here are pretty good and I would say that this college is very underrated and overall educational quality is fantastic. The alumni here are at very high positions. Students are getting placed in very big companies like IBM, TCS, Infosys, etc.
Infrastructure: The overall infrastructure and hostel facility are very poor. There is no proper sports facility and it's a very food-prone area. The financial condition of the college is very poor compared to the main campus. The college doesn't have its own hostel facilities.
Faculty: The teaching staff are well-experienced, with more than 20 years of teaching experience. The staff are very friendly and interactive. The curriculum is not that great since here the semester duration is very short and a lot of portions are left.
Other: The sports facilities here are very poor.

M.Sc. in Oceanography - Batch of 2025

Average college for M.Sc. in Oceanography course.
Placements: I think this college is greatly underappreciated, and the general quality of instruction is excellent. Placements are also rather strong. These alumni hold very important jobs. Large corporations like IBM, TCS, Infosys, and others are hiring students.
Infrastructure: The entire CUSAT college experience is fantastic. There are numerous chances for students to pursue their interests at the college. TedX and SEDS are only two of the numerous clubs and organizations on campus. Also, CUSAT hosts a sports and arts festival every year. The college has cafeterias, a library with a large selection of study materials, and a gym. The library is a great resource.
Faculty: Although we rely on YouTube courses and an AI model for the majority of our tasks, the instructor members are excellent. Although the semesters are challenging, the instruction is of high quality. You can succeed if you dedicate at least an hour each day to studying.

Absolutely satisfied with the college environment and facilities.
Placements: The placement percentage is 88%. Most of them got placed with low annual packages. Most of them try for other jobs. Mainly TCS arrives for placements. The average salary package offered is 3 LPA. Placements are offered to students in the computer science branch. Other branch placements are very low. Internship opportunity starts from the 7th semester onwards. The highest salary package offered in 2018 was 13 LPA.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is quite average. The football grounds are very small. There is a basketball court, a volleyball court, etc. They are not maintained well. Facilities in the college are good but in the hostel especially in the boys' hostel, the building infrastructure is very bad. It lacks basic facilities like toilets. The fee is very high compared to the facilities. The food in the college hostel is not worthy it. The campus has Wi-Fi, labs and the library. They are also good. There is a gym facility in the college, but it is not maintained well. All the equipment is rusty.
Faculty: Teachers are friendly to students. The teaching quality is very good in the electronics branch but they have very poor experience than other branches. The pass percentage in the last year was 82%. The course curriculum makes students capable of industry. Semester exams are very difficult.
Other: I chose this course in this college because the facility rating and the course curriculum are better in the electronics branch compared to others. Events and programs in this college are limited. Events should be organised by students so that there will not be any help from faculty members. It is a major problem in this college. There are a limited number of events.

Nice college with pleasant vibe.
Placements: Poor placement with below-average LPA. Many students get placed, but the annual income is very poor. Mainly, the majority of the students get placements in many companies, but the majority LPA is less than 8lcs. However, some students get good packages with higher LPA.
Infrastructure: Hostel facility is very poor, but the ambiance and vibe with friends give so many memories. The faculty in charge of the hostel is also very nice and friendly, but the main problem is the mess food; it is very poor. The curries are like flowing water, but the atmosphere is very nice.
Faculty: Teachers are very nice; the majority of them are youngsters with a friendly vibe. The college atmosphere is very cool and chill, but the exams are very tough. If you have a chance to get admission in another university, then go and take admission in that university; don't get trapped in KTU.
