Q:   How successful is the placement cell in securing jobs for M.Sc. students at CUSAT?

    A:
    {Source: M.Sc. students & alumni}

    Placement Cell

Unfortunately, there is no placement cell in the M.Sc. programme at CUSAT. According to the students' reviews:

    * "Companies have stopped coming to our department since 2018 because most students were going for higher studies like Ph.D., M.Tech., MS, etc."
    * "Students are working as scientists, professors, and engineers. interested students can go for internships if they get the chance."

This indicates that there is no dedicated placement cell or efforts made by the institution to secure jobs for M.Sc. students. Students seem to rely on their own initiatives to find employment opportunities.

Excellent faculty and strong industry preparation in M.Sc. Statistics.
Placements: The outgoing batch of 2025 of M.Sc. Statistics from Cochin University of Science and Technology is promising in every way, as 75 percent of the students were placed after their graduation. The highest package is 12 lacs per annum, the lowest is 2 lacs, and the average is 7 lacs. Top recruiting companies include TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and other financial institutions and analytics companies. Almost half of the students got an internship while on course. Internships are provided by reputed companies, including Deloitte, Mu Sigma, and the data analytics startups from their own city. Some popular positions offered to the students graduation from this course include Data Analyst, Statistician, and Business analyst, through which students are able to apply their statistical knowledge to problems and contribute to decision-making.
Infrastructure: The course of M.Sc. In Statistics offered by Cochin University of Science and Technology is supported by fine infrastructure facilities like modern classrooms that have audio-visual aids, well-maintained laboratories for practical work, and a large library of plenty of resources on Statistics and data analysis. It provides the campus with a good facility of Wi-Fi, through which the students are facilitated to access online materials and research. The hostel facilities are comfortable, with large rooms and all the facilities necessary to provide a suitable environment to live in. Food quality in the mess is usually good, and various nutritious items are provided for consumption. The campus provides enough medical facilities, with healthcare services available for the students. The university ensures that there is a healthy lifestyle by providing sports and games facilities and encouraging the students to take up such physical activities and maintain a balanced lifestyle. All in all, the infrastructure gives the students in the programme a pretty enhanced experience.
Faculty: They have high qualifications, rich experience, and dedication in all the faculty members of M.Sc. In Statistics under Cochin University of Science and Technology. Excellent student support system, with whom students are accessible as well as knowledgeable; all these make the standards of teaching better. It deals with the theoretical aspect as well as the practical aspect of statistics and goes well with the requirement in the industry on the side of the students. Semester exams are tough but fair; that is, they check one's understanding of applying concepts in statistics. The pass percentage is quite high and usually ranges around 80%. This depicts how good the faculty and curriculum are at preparing the students to face their exams. All in all, the program equips students with skills and knowledge required for performing various data-related jobs in the industry.

MCA is better than M.Sc.; the companies prefer MCA.
Placements: 60% of students were placed in our course. 7.3 LPA was the highest, 3.6 LPA was the lowest, and the average package is 3.6 LPA. TCS, Rently, Cognizant, Turbolab, SOTI, Tata Elxsi, etc. No one got an internship from our course. Everyone did the project. System engineers and AI developers are the top roles offered by our course.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are limited. The labs are very good. But the department can't accommodate everyone in one lab. There is a shortage of classrooms. Food, medical, and sports facilities are all good. Many sports events will be hosted for the department, and it's nice.
Faculty: The teachers are highly qualified and helpful. All the teaching staff were professors. Yes, the course curriculum is relevant. But I won't guarantee that students will be industry-ready because it's a state-owned autonomous college. The semester exams' difficulty depends on the faculty members. The pass percentage in our class was 100 percent.

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here are the key points that highlight the strengths and weaknesses of CUSAT for pursuing an M.Sc. program:

    * Teaching Quality: The faculty members are highly qualified, knowledgeable, and responsible. They have good teaching skills and use modern technology to explain concepts.
    * Infrastructure: The college has good infrastructure, with modern laboratories, libraries, and computer facilities. However, some students mentioned that the hostel rooms could be better maintained.
    * Placement Opportunities: While there may not be a dedicated placement cell, many students have been able to secure placements in reputed organizations, both within India and abroad. The average salary package is around INR3.6 LPA, with the highest package being INR7.3 LPA.
    * Research Opportunities: CUSAT has a strong focus on research, and students have the opportunity to pursue projects under the guidance of experienced faculty members. This can lead to publications and presentations at national and international conferences.
    * Course Curriculum: The course curriculum is relevant and updated regularly to meet industry requirements.
    * Internship Opportunities: Although there may not be a formal internship program, students have mentioned that they have secured internships in central government institutions and private companies.

However, some areas where CUSAT falls short include:

    * Limited Classroom Space: Some students mentioned that the number of classrooms is limited, making it difficult for all students to access them simultaneously.
