There is no such provision for direct admission to any of the programmes offered at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), formerly known as Punjab Technical University (PTU). Candidates seeking admission at IGKPTU must meet the eligibility criteria established by the university. Those who meet the eligibility can apply for their desired programme by filling out the online application form through IGKPTU official website. 

Candidates need to pass a minimum of Class 12 to apply for I.K Gujral Punjab Technical University UG courses. The aggregate will depend of the course opted by the aspirants. However, the minimum aggregate for UG courses ranges between 45%-50%. Hence, aspirants with 60% in Class 12 have a good of getting admission in the university. The candidates belonging to reserved category have a high chance as there is 5% relaxation in the aggregate for them.

The aspirants need to fill out an online/offline application form with their complete details to apply for the desired course. The application form can be filled out in online mode by visiting PTU's official website (ptu.ac.in). The selection for most of the courses is based on merit of the aspirants in the last qualifying exam. The university may accept entrance exam for admission to a few courses.

PTU will release the provisional and final merit lists on its official website.PTU Jalandhar got 104th position in NIRF Engineering Ranking 2020 whereas it was ranked 120 in the NIRF Ranking 2021 in the engineering category. The varsity campus is spread over an area of 5 Lacs square feet. PTU Jalandhar has 121 AICTE and 65 UGC approved colleges affiliated to it.

The IK Gujral Punjab Technical University average package has not been released as of now. However, the median package offered during the past three years of placements is available in the NIRF report 2024. As per the report, the median package for BTech has improved from 2021 to 2023. As per the NIRF report 2024, 117 BTech and 2 MBA students were placed during the 2023 placements. Earlier, 55 BTech and 2 MBA students were placed during the 2022 drive. The university offers over 35 UG, PG, and Diploma courses. PTU offers courses in the streams of Engineering, Architecture, Science, Design, Law, Mass Communication & Media, etc. Moreover, the courses are offered in full-time, part-time, and distance modes.
