Yes, IGNOU is a trusted and accredited distance education university. It is a central university which was established by an ACT of parliament in 1985. Therefore, a distance education degree from IGNOU is equivalent to a degree granted by any recognised university in India. Also, the degree from IGNOU University is acceptable and valid overseas and in foreign countries with ease. The reason behind this is IGNOU is a recognised university under the UGC and is a governmental university too. Adding further, an IGNOU degree is approved by DEC and AICTE as well.

As per a recent notification released by the IGNOU university, SC/ST students seeking fresh admission and re-registration to the July session of IGNOU admission are exempted from fee payment. Students willing to avail themselves of this facility must submit their applications online along with a soft copy of the documents required for the claim.

All the admission forms submitted via the Online Admission System are scrutinised and confirmed for admission subject to the fulfilment of eligibility criteria. These forms are processed region-wise on a first-come-first-serve basis. Therefore, the time required for the processing of forms for different regional centres may vary depending on the number of applicants from the respective region. IGNOU results for PhD admission are out on the official website of the institute. Candidates who have at least 50% aggregate in the entrance test (45% aggregate in case of SC/ ST/ OBC (Non Creamy layers)/ Differently abled persons) are shortlisted for the interview subject to the maximum limit of five times of the available seats. The entrance test carries a weightage of 70% and 30% weightage is allocated to the interview/ viva.

Students who have applied for B.Ed, MBA or PB BSc Nursing must appear for the required entrance and check if they've qualified it. Followed by application, application fee payment and entrance, students who have completed their registration can check their status by entering their registration number on the IGNOU admission status page. The university also notifies students about their admission confirmation or rejection through an email and a text message in the next two months.

IGNOU re-registration is the procedure to register for any course for the next semester/ year. Students who have already enrolled in the undergraduate or postgraduate courses of IGNOU can apply for re-registration on university's official website. Students who have not appeared for the term-end exams or those who have not submitted their assignments can also fill out the IGNOU re-registration form. The status of re-registration at IGNOU can be tracked after 30 days of filling out the application form. IGNOU provides study material in both online and offline mode. Students applying for admission can choose the mode to receive the study material. Students are not charged anything for the material. In case student opts for hard copy, they receive the study material by post within a few weeks of applying for admission.  It is compulsory to carry IGNOU ID-Card when appearing for the exam. However, in case a students forgets to bring the same, he or she can show an identity proof like Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, etc. Most of the exam centres accept identity proof in such cases but to avoid any kind of conflict, students must carry their IGNOU ID-Card along with an identity proof and admit card.

According to the IGNOU Academic Year Calendar, the term end practicals were held in January and the next practical exam date will be released soon. Practical exams are held in the study centres only.
