Campus life is amazing, but I am disappointed with the course structure and the teacher's attitude.
Placements: Very few companies visit our campus after a hard try. Around 10% of the students got placed in 2020 with an average salary package of 6.5 LPA. Profiles offered are research analyst and data science. Top recruiting companies are Indian Infrastructure, Axiom and Smart Cube.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are comparatively newly built, and conference rooms are superbly furnished. Hostels are amazing and newly built, and food is much better. The college has common Wi-Fi and a furnished library, both departmental and central. Sanitation needs more attention, but otherwise, campus and hostels are clean and spacious.
Faculty: The syllabus is a bit backdated. Few teachers are casual with the approach, but a few of them are quite experienced and teach well. More practical needs to be added with more accountability for its completion. Students are not made ready for the work, so they are supposed to perform with this kind of degree in hand.
Other: I have chosen this course because I like this subject and my desire for higher studies in the same. The course here can be made more comprehensive and dynamic. Extracurriculars are average, and fests are not that pompous and in small scale.

It is not the best option but a better option, especially for those who look into the research.
Placements: There are 2 master's programmes offered by the Economics department: MA Economics and MSc. Banking and Financial Analytics. MSc BFA is mainly focused on corporate jobs, so it has a better placement option than the MA Economics course. There is an active placement cell, but overall placement is very low.
Infrastructure: There is Wi-Fi access, a computer lab, a library, and a seminar hall in the department. But it is not enough to accommodate the students of the department. There is a lot to improve. Hostel facilities are also good with quality food, a reading room, Wi-Fi access, a gym, etc. But it's very difficult to get hostel rooms.
Faculty: Teachers are well qualified, and most of them have excellent teaching skills. The curriculum for MA Economics covers theory papers and quantitative papers like statistics, mathematics for economics, financial economics, etc. There is also coverage of important statistical software like EViews, R, SPSS. Semester exams are tough but can easily crack by a regular student.

    Review of Jamia Millia Islamia.
Placements: Among our senior batches, that is, 2024 passouts, only one got campus placement. I am not sure about the packages offered for his post. But three seniors got appointed as research interns in good companies. The placement percentage was very low last year from M.A. Economics. This year we are expecting more placements because this year the department has a centralized placement cell for 2 PG courses and one graduate course. Our department has another course called M.Sc. Banking and Financial Analytics; it is a corporate-oriented course and last year almost all got placed in that course. In my batch, around six to seven people did placement during last summer vacation.
Infrastructure: In the department we have a library, a model classroom and a computer lab. Wi-Fi is available in both campus and hostel (in hostel the Wi-Fi connection for the upper three floors was done on last two weeks back). The hostel room is comfortable for me—three people in a room with a separate bed, study table, study lamps, curtains, mirrors, two fans and a pretty big shelf. During summer, we can buy and set coolers if we prefer that and we also need to pay an extra electricity charge for the same. Food was fine for the first year, but now I feel like eating the same foods, which didn't seem good at times. We had to eat read and utter for four days as breakfast and if we take lunch packs most of the days, Chapati and Subji will be there. It is difficult to eat dry chapati in the afternoon. To be honest, dinner will be nice. We get chicken four days and they try to change the recipes also, which makes us happy.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and qualified. They give us space to present our ideas, submit assignments, engage in different workshops, seminars, etc. They ask us to read a lot. Different articles and papers. We do group discussions in classes too. The course curriculum is relevant as they try to bring both the needs of corporate jobs and research jobs parallel in our syllabus. We have theory papers and labs where we learn software like R, Reviews, Spss, etc. At the same time, the quantitative part is also there in the syllabus. We have CBCS paper and optional paper too. The semester exams are not very difficult. For the first semester, it was too difficult for me. But gradually it becomes a bit easy compared to the first exam. The pass percentage I can say will be approximately 82%.
Other: The office work is pretty easy in the department because all the departments have their own office staff to deal with the paper work. The approachability of professors is high. The department conducts different events. Among them, the major events are the department sports meet, the department fest called "Ecocracy," and the alumni meet. Apart from this, we conducts Vigilance Awareness Week Observance, Foundation day celebrations, corporate lecture series, conferences, etc.

Q:   Is Jamia Millia Islamia good for M.Com?

    A:
    {Source: M.Com students & alumni}

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) - Is it Good for M.Com?

Based on reviews from current students and alumni, here's what they say:

    * Placement Record: While the college claims to have a good placement record, the reality seems to be different. According to students, only about 20% of students get placed, with the highest package offered being INR5.5 LPA.
    * Recruiters: Companies like Samsung, Kotak Mahindra, DMI Housing Finance, and Acxiom visit the campus for placements, but the number of recruiters is relatively small.
    * Course Curriculum: The M.Com course is well-structured and covers finance, accounting, and purchasing, making students industry-ready.
    * Teaching Quality: Some students feel that the teaching quality could improve, while others appreciate the support and guidance received from faculty members.
    * Infrastructure: The college has a beautiful campus with modern infrastructure, including a large library, laboratories, and a sports complex.
    * Scholarships: JMI offers scholarships to deserving students, including the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

In conclusion, while Jamia Millia Islamia has its strengths, particularly in terms of infrastructure and course structure, the placement record for M.Com appears to be inconsistent. Prospective students should weigh these factors carefully before deciding whether JMI is the right fit for them.
