Mahindra University Organises Webinar On The “Three Factors In The Formation Of Dharmashastra”

December 17, 2021: Professor Timothy Lubin, the Jessir Ball duPont Professor of Religion at Washington and Lee University, presented a webinar on the "Three Factors in the Formation of Dharmashastra" at Mahindra University's School of Law. During the seminar, Professor Madabhushi Sridhar Acharyulu, Dean, School of Law, Dr. Paromita Das Gupta, Faculty at School of Law and the webinar's organiser, and Dr. Sehar Khwaja, Faculty at School of Law, talked.

Prof. Timothy Lubin used the Upnishads to convey the cosmic notion of "Dharma" in the following way: Dharma is the power that rules over the power that rules (Dharmam Kshatrasya Kshatram). As a result, the supremacy of the law reigns supreme. The Dharma is the supreme ruler over both the people and the rulers. Nothing is more important than Dharma, which is "what is right and true."

Professor Timothy Lubin is affiliated with the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies in Delhi and the French Institute of Pondicherry, and is an expert on religion and law. He previously taught at Harvard and the University of Virginia. Working with sources in Sanskrit, Prakrit, Old Javanese, and Old Tamil, he is a constant researcher in Dharmashastra and their relationship to practices apparent in the inscription.

Prof. Timothy Lubin charted the three central elements that were brought together in the earliest Sanskrit texts on Dharma: rules of ritual practice modeled on older Vedic priestly rulebooks; rules for royal policy and legal procedure from the tradition that produced the Arthashastra; and customary norms, primarily those of various Brahmin male authorities but also (in theory) those of women and other groups.

Mahindra University School Of Law Organises Its Orientation Lectures Series

September 29, 2021: From September 6 to September 17, 2021, Mahindra University School of Law hosted a series of online and offline courses as part of its orientation lecture series. For all of its freshly admitted BA-LLB and BBA-LLB students, each session was an eye-opening and educational experience.

“We cordially invite the first batch of Mahindra University School of Law students to join us. Our law school is based on the values of justice, equality, and service to all members of society. Gandhiji, who was a well-known lawyer, always prioritised honesty and service over the advantages of the profession. Dr Yajulu Medury, Vice-Chancellor, Mahindra University, states, "We are focused on giving education for and of a better world, and there is no better way to begin their education than by exposing them to the opinions of the country's top legal luminaries."

Each day of the orientation began with a lecture from prominent legal practitioners who shared their knowledge and experiences in order to teach the principles and abilities required in the legal profession in the foundation batch of lawyers.

Prof. VC Vivekanandan, Vice-Chancellor, Hitayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, conducted a virtual session on the needed skillsets for the legal profession in the first session of the lecture series. He discussed the importance of ethics, legal discipline, and the applicability of law in unexplored territory.

Advocate Ramchandra Rao, a member of the Telengana Legislative Committee in Hyderabad, spoke about the legal profession's inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary role. His discussion covered topics including Conventional Practice, Corporate Practice, High Court Practice, Supreme Court Practice, and Advising Chamber Practice, among others.

The principles of studying law were underlined by Prof. Dr Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University, Delhi. He emphasised the significance of lawyers cultivating their imaginative capabilities by reading poetry, viewing great paintings, and engaging in other creative activities in order to develop a genuinely complete legal professional.

Prof. Dr Vijaya Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the National Law Institute University (NLIU) in Bhopal, led a workshop on how to interpret the Indian constitution. The Constitution, he said, is the supreme law of the land, as well as the fundamental law of higher obligations. He also mentioned the Constitution's, Constitutional Law’s and Constitutionalism’s unique value.

Understanding Law and Justice was the topic of Justice J. Chelameswar, Judge (Retd.) Supreme Court of India, in the series' last lecture. He highlighted the importance of history in the formation of societies. He claimed that democracy is a government system, and that democratic governance should be the goal in order to produce a just and lawful society. He also argued that if power is not checked, it might corrupt the system and have a negative impact on society's functioning.

Review of Mahindra University

Placements: There are about 60 students per batch in my course, and although the batch size has vastly increased, they’ve divided it into sections, making it 60 per batch. It’s efficient and quite interactive. For law, so far, there’s no batch that has passed out. However, regarding internships, many students have had opportunities with firms like Luthra and Luthra, SAM, CAM, etc.

It's a practical-based course curriculum with decent placements.

The median package offered by the college is 6 LPA. Internships are offered, and students with good academics and skills have the opportunity to intern at Mahindra. Other recruiting companies include HTC, TCS, Amazon, Capgemini, IBM, and various startups in Hyderabad.
