Q: Can I get admission in NIT Durgapur - National Institute of Technology in B.Tech if my rank is between 15000 and 20000?

For last year, the closing rank for B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering was 15311 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one cannot afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing year on year, it is advisable to try to score better ranks to increase your chances of getting admission in NIT Durgapur - National Institute of Technology.

Candidates must have passed 10+2 examination or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory Subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subjects in year 2023, 2024 conducted by respective Boards. Candidates should have secured the mentioned marks in the Class 12th examination or be in the top 20 percentile in Class 12th examination conducted by respective Boards. Candidates who are appearing in the Class 12th / equivalent examination in 2025 irrespective of their age, are also eligible. Note: List of qualifying examination(QE): i). College is good with good placements.

Placements: I'm from the Mechanical Engineering branch, which is new at NIT Durgapur. This branch is also related to Computer Science Engineering. Internships at NIT DGP are valuable, with strong industry connections offering opportunities in top companies. In CSE above 89% of students got placed, with top companies like Microsoft and Amazon.

Infrastructure: All Wi-Fi and labs are good, and hostel facilities are also good. Mess is good, and the food is tasty. Sports facilities are available, including a basketball court, cricket ground, and other games. There is a medical unit on campus. The mess at NIT DGP offers good culinary expertise, providing different options though the standard may be questionable. The food is usually healthy.

Faculty: Teachers are good and always willing to help by clarifying our doubts. It is a bit difficult to pass the semester. Pass percentage is 35%. Many students are seen practicing a great deal of training, solving coding contests, and undertaking interviews to get high-responsibility and high-paying jobs in industry software.

Good faculty and good college.

Placements: I am from the mechanical engineering branch. This branch is new in NIT Durgapur. It is also a part of Computer Science Engineering. Internships at NIT Durgapur are valuable, with strong industry connections offering opportunities in top companies. In CSE above 89% were placed. Top companies like Microsoft, Amazon, etc.

My Experience at NIT DURGAPUR.

Placements: You can apply for full-time roles in college (on-campus) from the 7th semester because many companies start hiring from this semester. Top companies like Microsoft, JP Morgan, BNY Mellon, Wells Fargo, etc., take students mostly from the Computer Science branch.

Infrastructure: Recently, there was an inauguration of the Research Building (Utkarsh Bhawan). It will definitely create an impact on this college's reputation and ranking in a good way. Overall, the quality of mess food is average here but sometimes it is bad. There are 2 grounds in this college, Ovals and Lords.

Faculty: Some teachers are good here. Each semester you have to give 3 exams i.e., CA1 (15 marks), CA2/Mid-term (25 marks), and Endterm (60 marks). I will not say that the curriculum is worse but there should be some modification in every department's syllabus. Overall, difficulty is moderate for passing the exam.

Our college has very good infrastructure and placements.

Placements: Around 82% of students got placed in our college. The highest salary package offered is 50 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 5 LPA. Google, Amazon, and Samsung are top recruiting companies for our course. Around 40% of students got internships at Amazon. Many students get placed after the course.

Infrastructure: Our college provides unlimited Wi-Fi, secured and sanitised labs, and wonderful infrastructure filled with greenery inside the college. All books are available in the library. It has six sacks in a room with three floors. Quality is better compared to other national institutes of technology. Mess is not much better. Our college provides average medical facilities with an ICU. It provides more chances for playing games and participating in inter-NITs.

Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and qualified. Professors have excellent knowledge of what they teach. The course prepares students for any upcoming challenge, such as jobs, internships, and competitions. Exams are not very difficult and depend on the way of study. Pass percentage is 35%.

Other: I chose this course because I like mechanical engineering very much. Our college does not conduct fests.

Information about NIT Durgapur.

Placements: This year, my brand, which is mechanical engineering, got a good placement of 70 LPA in London, which is the highest in the college, which is a proud thing for us. And the average package is around 15 lacs. The placements in core are higher than in the teaching companies.

Infrastructure: We have a single hostel for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students. The hostel is pretty decent, with normal infrastructure. We have good Wi-Fi facility, and the mess food is decent; it is not too bad. The medical facility is not that good. It is a very small hospital.

Faculty: The fee is up to 10 lacs for general students, it may vary for other categories of students. The teachers are decently qualified and have a good interest in subjects. It is not difficult to qualify for the exam. If you are decent in your studies and attend all the classes.

Other: The scholarship information will be provided by the administrative branch. The festivals are okay.

NIT Durgapur offers BSc + MSc (integrated) programme. The institute provides admission to applicants who clear the required JEE Main cut-off. Is lateral entry in B.Tech 2nd year available at NIT, Durgapur?

NITs does not offer admission in B.Tech courses through lateral entry mode. The JEE-Main exam is the only way for NIT's B.Tech courses.

With AIR 22205, CSE is tough to get there, but there are some chances of mechanical engineering. Maybe, you will get ME in the 3rd or 4th round of counselling. Best of luck.
