Good infrastructure and campus life, average placements.
Placements: I belong to the Mechanical Engineering branch of NIT Silchar. In this branch, the on-campus placements are average, while various off-campus opportunities are also available. The average package in this branch is around 7-8 LPA, while for the college, it is around 13.34 LPA. Various companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Capgemini, etc., regularly visit the campus during the placement drive. Also, several PSUs come for recruitment, like OIL, NRL, ONGC, BHEL, SAIL, HPCL, BPCL, etc. Last year, the highest package was around 52 LPA.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of NIT Silchar is quite good. There are various facilities available around the campus such as labs, classrooms, libraries, guest houses, etc. The institute has Asia's largest digital library (though there is nothing digital inside). There is a health center, startup center, sports complex, and indoor as well as outdoor stadiums. But the quality of mess food is not very good, though it is edible.
Faculty: All the teachers are highly qualified. But still, some teachers did not teach quite well. Their teaching style was not good, while other teachers were really good at teaching. The course curriculum, I think, should be moderated a bit because it should teach us practical and useful things more than just theory.

College is good if you are an all-rounder.
Placements: Even with the recession, for the 2024 batch, students got placed in companies like HPCL, IOCL (PSUs), Oceaneering, TVS Motors. This year, the 2025 batch placements are higher, and better companies have approached. Students get placed as Managers, Designers, and many more.
Infrastructure: We have our own department library to study for exams. There is lab connection in each hostel, classroom, and library. Not all hostels have a canteen, but the food in the canteen is good. The food in the mess varies with the mess committee. We have a dispensary for medical facilities. SMCH is also nearby.
Faculty: Our department professors are highly educated, and some are among the top 2% of scientists in the world. The teaching quality is good but depends on the professor. Students who are sincere enough pass the exams easily. The curriculum is relevant after the 2nd year of any course you take here.
Other: The placement is good. The course I chose gives me ample opportunity to grow. It has a vast reach for higher studies and job opportunities. The events held are good, and we have events almost every month.

Good in placements, good campus life, good fests, average infrastructure.
Placements: More than 80 percent of the students were placed among the ones opted for the placements. Combining all the branches, the highest was in the range of 40 to 50 LPA. In mechanical, the average lies between 13 to 14 LPA. The top recruiters were Tata, Adani, Vedanta, HPCL, IOCL, Delivery, Emami, etc. Internship opportunities were provided by Accenture, IOCL, ONGC, Tata, etc.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are provided with digital boards, but some of them are not operational or may be not used by the faculty members, especially in the old classrooms. The new classrooms are provided with projectors and LAN facilities. No Wi-Fi facilities are provided in the classrooms. Laboratories are average, some labs are not proper due to the defect of some instruments. The hostel facilities are average. Second years are asked to stay 3 in a 2-seater room. The quality of food in the mess is not good most of the times. The mess faculty members are below average in comparison to the fees paid.
Faculty: Few faculty members are very good, but most of them are good but not as expected. The teachers try to provide us the materials for the courses. The curriculum, in my opinion, is a little old. It focuses on conventional ways rather than new methods. Students have to give their own efforts to acquire the skills required for industries. The semester exams are medium in difficulty. The pass percentage is above 80 percent.
Other: This institute is one of the top-ranked engineering institutes in the North East. The campus life is good. Events and fests are organized, which are too fun. One can explore various things and passions. We have music clubs, dance, drama clubs, mountaineering sports, photography, literary clubs, and more.

A short review by a Mechanical Engineering student on NIT Silchar.
Placements: Over 90% of students are placed through college campus recruitment. The highest salary package offered was 80 LPA and the average salary package offered was 6 LPA. Every student must complete an internship at the end of the 6th semester, which is compulsory. However, if one wishes, they can pursue other internships on their own.
Infrastructure: Hostel premises are built with various designs, and each hostel is unique in its layout. In the hostel, we are provided with Wi-Fi and all the basic facilities we need. Canteen offers food at a very reasonable rate, and the mess food is okay, though not always appetizing.
Faculty: Faculty members are helpful, and all are highly qualified to deal with students. Course is relevant to every mechanical aspect that we need to know. Semester exams are moderate, and the pass percentage is around 90% to 95%. Yes, it prepares students to be industry-ready.
Other: It provides everything needed to grow in life, but the course is a bit expensive, I would say. My course is mechanical engineering. Best things about my course are the teachers, their helpful nature, and the subjects I love.

Review of NIT Silchar - National Institute of Technology.
Placements: In National Institute of Technology Silchar, almost 85% of students got placed. The highest salary package offered is 70 LPA and the lowest salary package offered is 8 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Accenture, etc. Almost 70% of students got paid internships in companies like Google, Microsoft, etc.
Infrastructure: In National Institute of Technology Silchar, facilities like Wi-Fi, labs, projectors in classrooms, etc. are available. Infrastructure of NIT Silchar is top-notch. Faacilities in our hostel are good but the quality of food available in the mess is disgusting. Medical facilities, sports, and games are also available on our campus.
Faculty: Teachers of NIT Silchar are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. Teaching quality is good as all teachers have PhD degrees. In this course curriculum, students of NIT Silchar are prepared for industrial work. Semester exams are very tough.
Other: I chose this course because I haa been interested in engineering since the beginning of my board exams. The only thing I wish would be better is the weightage of our department. There are two fests Cultural Fest (Incandescence) and Technical Fest (Tecnoesis).
