Review of Pune University (UNIPUNE) - SPPU (Savitribai Phule Pune University).
Placements: There are no placements as such in the department. If you build good contacts with your professor, then they would recommend you to certain companies or research institutes, where you can get a job. L & T conducts pool recruitment drives, where you compete with Fergusson and other regional colleges and can also secure a job there. The salary ranges from Rs.19,000 to RS. 25,000 per month.
Infrastructure: Labs are pretty basic, although you have the necessary instruments it lacks in niche machines like XRD or machines required for conducting engineering. Geology tests. Departments have good contacts with IITB, so most of your dissertation work would be done in their labs. The rock sample collection is above average, with a large variety of minerals, fossil samples and rocks from all over the world.
Faculty: As with any other college, there are a few very good professors, most moderate and a handful of unworthy people occupying the teaching positions. Nitin Karmalkar, VC of SPPU, is a professor of the dept, an extremely well-known geologist and influential. Others include Dr D. P. Mohanty ( IITB and NGRI Alumni), teaches structural geology. The hydro-geology in the department is good. Geophysics and tectonics are taught by S. J. Sangode ( ex- Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology). The course curriculum is a bit old and irrelevant, and you would be burdened with exams from day-1. But overall, it's a nice place to learn if you want to crack GATE, NET and other government exams.

There is bad placement with good research in geology department.
Placements: The placement cell is in bad condition due to lack of interest from both teachers and students. However, university placement cell is good and quite supportive. From my senior batch, no one was placed by the department. Only a few students are sometimes helped for internships, and that is 10%.
Infrastructure: Inspite of being a government organisation, the facilities are quite good. The campus is equipped with 24*7 Wi-Fi facilities. Labs are good with the best instruments available, covering a wide range. Department library is good. However, an additional main library is available. Access to online journals for research is restricted. Medical facilities are excellent, and sports is decent. Food has always been a problem even though there are multiple canteens on the campus.
Faculty: The course curriculum is average, and some of the teachers still teach old techniques. The department is known for its research and is a must for someone who would like to pursue research. Professors are the best ones from their field. Some of the professors are inefficient and lack basic knowledge of the subject.
Other: Scholarships are given a lot of importance. The campus is really beautiful with forest in the surrounding place. Other campus activities aren't happening.
