Initially, the university was affiliated with the University of Madras, and in 2001, the affiliation shifted to Anna University. The university became a Deemed-to-be university in 2008. Vel Tech University courses are offered to students at UG, PG, and PhD levels under several schools such as the School of Law, School of Management, School of Commerce, School of Science & Humanities, etc. Some of the most popular programmes offered at the college are BTech, BBA, BCom, BSc, MBA, MTech, MA, etc. Vel Tech Chennai courses are AICTE-approved and are offered to students in full-time mode.
