TANCET eligibility criteria 2025 is prescribed by Anna University for state-level admissions in Tamil Nadu. TANCET or Tamil Nadu Common Admission Test is conducted by Anna University for admission to MBA, MCA and ME/MTech/MArch/MPlan programmes. Candidates need to fulfil the TANCET eligibility conditions to avoid denial of candidature in later admission processes. TANCET eligibility compiles several elements including age, educational qualification and nationality. Candidates are allotted a seat during TANCET counselling based on the following reservation criteria:

  • Open Competition (OC): 31%
  • Backward Classes (BC): 26.5%
  • Most Backward Class and Identified Communities: 20%
  • SC (Arunthathiyar): 3%
  • Scheduled Caste: 15%
  • Scheduled Tribes: 1%
  • Backward Class Muslims: 3.5%

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for admission into TANCET colleges?

A:
Candidates aspiring for MBA Admission based on TANCET exam must have a Bachelor's degree with a 50 per cent aggregate score. In case the candidates belong to reserved category, they have a concession of five per cent in aggregate score requirement, I. e. reserved categories need 45 per cent aggregate in the qualifying exam. On the other hand, TANCET colleges offering MCA admission requires the candidates to hold any of the following Bachelors degree: - BCA - B.Sc. Information Technology - B.Sc. Computer Science Engineering Candidates who do not have any of the above mentioned degrees must have studied Mathematics as a major subject in Graduation or at 10+2 exam level.

Q:   Can I request for TANCET exam city outside Tamil Nadu state?

A:
Candidates need to choose an exam city from the list of 15 cities situated in Tamil Nadu. Candidates do not get the option to choose any city of their wish. The choice is to be made among these 15 cities of Tamil Nadu only. Any requests for a change of exam city or exam centre will not be entertained. Candidates must make arrangements for travel to the exam centre as soon as they get the TANCET hall ticket. It is always advisable to know the exact location of the centre before the exam day to avoid any unnecessary hassles on the TANCET exam date.
  • Unreserved categories: Candidates must secure at least 50 per cent in the qualifying degree
  • Reserved categories: Candidates must secure a minimum of 45 per cent in the qualifying degree.

Candidates who hold any of the following qualifications abiding by the above-mentioned criteria are eligible to apply for the MBA course:

  • 10+2+3/4/5 years pattern
  • 10+3 years Diploma +3 years pattern
  • 10+2 + BE/BTech./BArch./BPharm
  • 10+2+AMIE, OR
  • 10+3 years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical Education) + AMIE

Qualifying Exam: Candidates must pass graduation with any of the following degrees to be eligible for the MCA course admission via TANCET:

NOTE: Candidates who have not completed the qualifying exam with a BSc degree majoring in IT or CS, or BCA degree must have studied Mathematics as a compulsory subject at Class 12 or at Graduation level.

Q:   I applied for TANCET MBA through online mode. Do I have to send the demand draft with INR 500 via post?

A:
No. TANCET application fee is payable in an online mode. Candidates who complete the TANCET registration can pay the application fee via debit card, credit card, or internet banking services. The application fee for TANCET exam varies across categories. In the 2023 session, reserved category candidates had to pay INR 500 as the application fee. On the contrary, the TANCET 2023 application fee paid by the unreserved category candidates was INR 1,000. Anna University may make changes in the application fee for TANCET 2024. any changes in the TANCET registration fee are notified along with the release of information bulletin at TANCET. Annauniv. Q:   Is there any age limit to appear for TANCET exam?

A:
No. Anna University has not specified any age limit for admission based on TANCET. However, candidates must meet all other eligibility conditions specified in the information bulletin. Additionally, candidates need to meet the eligibility conditions defined by the participating colleges to get the admission based on TANCET scores. Several institutes accepting TANCET MBA scores might have an upper age limit condition in place. Therefore, candidates must apply for the TANCET exam only after checking the eligibility conditions specified by the desired TANCET college.

Q:   How many candidates apply for TANCET MBA exam?

A:
TANCET exam is conducted for admission to MBA and MCA admission. Earlier, the exam was conducted for admission to Engineering courses offered at PG level. CEETA PG 2023 came into existence with the scrappage of TANCET for Engineering courses. Q:   Do I need to apply for each TANCET MBA college separately after passing TANCET exam?

A:
No. Applying for each college for admissions based on TANCET is not required. The Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, conducts the centralised counselling process for admission into TANCET colleges offering MBA and MCA courses. Candidates need to register for the Tamil Nadu MBA counselling on the online counselling portal as per the schedule. Subsequently, candidates will have to upload the relevant documents to get shortlisted for the TANCET rank allotment. Admission into 200+ TANCET colleges is done based on centralised counselling process. However, several other institutions accept TANCET exam scores but are not included in the centralisted list of colleges.

Q:   Does PSGIM accept TANCET score for pursuing MBA there? Is it sufficient or other exams like MAT and CAT also are considered? Please clarify.

A:
Yes, Besides TANCET PSGIM accepts scores for other entrance exams, including MAT CAT and AIMA for MBA Admission. Solely TANCET is enough to avail a seat under the government quota. Candidates aspiring for admission to PSGIM based on TANCET scores need to participate in the TANCET counselling conducted by DTE, Chennai. Only the candidates getting the PSGIM allotment during the general counselling process can join the college for admission. Candidates who wish to participate in the PSGIM admission process based on any other entrance exam have to appear for the specific exam and apply at the college website. Further, such candidates will have to participate in the GD and PI rounds as part of the MBA Admission process.
