Q:   Which has better placement at Heritage Institute of Technology, B.Tech in CSE or B.Tech in ECE?

A:

When it comes to placements at Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT), both B.Tech in CSE and B.Tech in ECE have their own strengths and advantages, making it difficult to definitively say which one has "better" placements. The choice can depend on your individual interests, skills, and career aspirations.

B.Tech in CSE:

  • Higher Average Package: Generally speaking,  the average package for CSE graduates at HIT tends to be higher than that for ECE graduates. Recent reports suggest an average package of around INR 6-7 LPA for CSE,  compared to INR 5-6 LPA for ECE.
  • More Top Recruiters: IT giants like Infosys,  Wipro,  TCS,  and Google tend to actively recruit CSE graduates at HIT,  offering opportunities in software development,  cloud computing,  data analytics,  and other high-demand fields.
  • Wide Variety of Roles: With the booming IT sector,  CSE graduates have access to a diverse range of career paths beyond traditional software development,  including cybersecurity,  AI/ML,  and blockchain technology.

B.Tech in ECE:

  • Core Engineering Focus: If you enjoy the hands-on aspects of electronics and hardware,  ECE offers a more core engineering curriculum compared to CSE's software focus.
  • Growing Demand: With advancements in automation and smart devices,  the demand for skilled ECE graduates is on the rise. This opens doors to exciting opportunities in robotics,  telecommunications,  VLSI design,  and embedded systems.
  • Specialist Roles: Beyond IT companies,  leading engineering firms like Tata Advanced Systems and other electronics manufacturers actively recruit ECE graduates,  offering lucrative careers in specific technology domains.

Additional factors to consider:

  • Your Interest: Ultimately,  choosing between CSE and ECE should be based on your genuine interest and aptitude in either field. You'll be dedicating years to the chosen field,  so passion is crucial.
  • Future Career Goals: Do you envision yourself coding and building software solutions in the IT world,  or are you drawn to the more physical aspects of designing and developing electronic hardware?  Aligning your goals with the strengths of each programme is key.
  • Research Industry Trends: Stay updated on current and future trends in both IT and Electronics sectors. This can help you understand the potential growth and job opportunities in each field.

Conclusion:

Neither CSE nor ECE is inherently "better" in terms of placements at HIT. Both offer promising career prospects with unique advantages. Evaluating your personal interests, desired career path, and industry trends will help you make the most informed decision. Consider attending college open houses and speaking to alumni from both programs to gain deeper insights before choosing your B.Tech path at HIT.

Overall, when compared to other similar colleges, our college surely provides better placement opportunities than those, but it doesn't even imply that there isn't any scope for improvement.

This college is not good for placement.
Placements: Placement in Heritage Institute of Technology (HITK) is concerning. Most companies are mass recruiters, offering 4 LPA-5 LPA. Our placement percentage is around 70%-80%. The percentage seems high because our college doesn't allow students to sit in placements once they are already placed. Top recruiting companies are TCS, Infosys, and others. The highest salary package placement is around 16 LPA, and the lowest salary package is around 2-3 LPA.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are well-organised. They are not too big but are spacious enough to sit. The college is fully Wi-Fi enabled, but the network is the worst, so no one uses it. There is no hostel facility for boys, so you have to take a hostel outside, which costs around Rs. 7,000 rupees per month. Students also take PG accommodations with other friends. There is a hostel facility for girls, but it is just average. The campus is very small, so there are very few sports grounds like cricket, football, basketball, and table tennis.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified and have done PhDs in their field. Their teaching methods are old. Students get bored easily, but if they pay attention, they teach well. The course curriculum is outdated and doesn't prepare students for the industry. Semesters are tough and rigorous. They don't give marks easily.
Other: I don't have any option other than HITK due to my mistake in JOSAA counseling. I got RVCE CSE, but due to financial reasons, I didn't join. The college doesn't have a hostel. One thing that should be done is that the hostel should be on campus. There are no fests, and the campus is very small with too much crowd for the area. There are no scholarships. I wouldn't recommend joining this college.

About Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata.
Placements: Above 90 percent of students were placed. The highest package is 20 LPA, the lowest is 2 LPA, and the average is 5-6 LPA. Companies like TCS, IBM, and Cognizant recruit here. The college did not provide internships; students have to find them on their own. In my course, many roles are available, like frontend developer, backend developer, and many more.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is good, but not very large. Wifi is available, the labs are clean, and the classrooms do not have AC but are still good. The library is also good, with many different versions of books available. The boys' hostel is not available on campus or near campus; it is far from the college and not very good. The girls' hostel is on the college campus.
Faculty: The faculty's qualifications are very good, and they are friendly and helpful to their students. Their teaching methods are also very good; they complete their syllabus before time and help students with revision. The semester examinations are not very tough; they are moderate, and the pass percentage is 98%.
Other: I chose this college for its cheap fee structure, but it has increased. There are no fests, and freshers and farewell events do not happen in this college.

Beautiful buildings, less fests, more friends .
Placements: Placement rate is high (more than 80%) but on ground level most of them get 3.5 LPA (CTC) which is quite low. The highest placement was in the year 2022 - 1.2 crores offcampus. Companies like Infosys, Vipro, TCS, Confident etc. Visit. Average placement for B.Teach CSE is 4 LPA.
Infrastructure: There is no in-campus hostel for boys. There is one hostel which is 3 km away from College but only 30 seats and for 1st years only. After than you have to arrange at other place. But you will find PGs near college ranging between 8k - 10k (with food) For girls there are 3 in-campus hotels and 1 under construction. There are also PGs near College. Food is good, Wi-Fi is available but limited daily limit and requires login daily. Only few Classrooms have AC, Wi-Fi not reachable in classrooms. Library is good fully AC and Wi-Fi.
Faculty: Teachers are good, some are strict do not support extra curricular activities like practicing for teachers day etc. Do not allow to leave the classes. Course curriculum is quite good. There is performance based marking, MAR points, Assignments, Projects etc. Exams are only 20% weightage. Exams are average surprise tests are easy (10 marks only). The pass percentage is above 80 .
Other: Events, Fests are not promoted here. Only cultural performances etc. The surroundings and campus environment is good.

Marvelous and excellent college infrastructure.
Placements: Companies like Wipro, Cognizant, TCS, and many more are trustworthy and offer good placements to students who have the potential to do the work. They interview students who appear on placement grounds and then select them based on their performance.
Infrastructure: The hostel food is good compared to other hostels, and the living conditions are natural. The departments are serious about their work, and they maintain a peaceful work environment while managing everything. The institute organizes lots of inter-tournament sports, including cricket, football, and archery. Students can participate and even win!
Faculty: The teachers at this college always instructed students to go by their notes or the reference books that are provided to the students. The teachers were helpful in clearing doubts and their interaction with students was good. The question papers had a medium level of difficulty, but some were low or high level.
Other: I am pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Engineering at Heritage Institute of Technology. I chose this course because it has more scope than other engineering disciplines such as electrical, chemical, and mechanical engineering.

In terms of placements, it is good compared to others. Inter-college tournaments are also held here.
Placements: The number of placements is not much in the college. The average package is about 3-4 LPA, and the highest package is about 10-11 LPA. Many companies have visited in the last 2-3 years, including Wipro, Cognizant, and TCS, and many more are yet to come.
Infrastructure: The hostel facilities are good; in fact, the infrastructure in the hostel is excellent. The food in the hostel is good compared to other college hostels, and the Wi-Fi service is outstanding; it is the best thing about the hostel. There is no limit to using it; one can use it as much as they want.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful in discussing problems with the students, and they can go over the same problem multiple times. The semester exams are slightly difficult; they are not so easy. We have to put in some effort to clear the exams and get good marks.
Other: I opted for this course because the demand for Computer Science and Engineering or Information Technology is very high in today's generation. There are lots of vacancies available in this field where one can secure jobs based on their skills.

Q:   Can I join Heritage Institute of Technology directly?

A:

Whether you can directly join Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) depends on what you mean by "directly." Here are the different ways of joining HIT:

Regular Admissions:

  • No direct admissions: Unfortunately,  HIT doesn't offer direct admissions for any B.Tech program. You need to go through the regular admission process,  which involves:
    • Qualifying in either WBJEE or JEE Main exams.
    • Meeting the minimum cut-off score for your desired program.
    • Participating in the counselling process and securing a seat based on your rank and programme choices.

Other Admission Options:

  • Lateral Entry: If you've completed a Diploma in engineering,  you can apply for lateral entry to the second year of a B.Tech programme at HIT. Admission is based on a separate entrance exam conducted by WBJEE.
  • Management Quota: Some seats in each B.Tech programme are reserved under the Management Quota. While not "direct" in the strict sense,  this might offer an alternative route for admission if you meet the eligibility criteria and pay the required fees.

Important Points:

  • The Management Quota seats are limited and admission isn't guaranteed. Merit and other criteria set by the institute determine selection.
  • Regardless of the quota you apply under,  fulfilling the program's eligibility criteria (e.g.,  minimum percentage in qualifying exams) remains mandatory.

Recommendations:

  • Check the official HIT website or contact the admissions office for the latest information on B.Tech admission procedures and specific eligibility requirements for different options.
  • Focus on preparing for WBJEE or JEE Main if aiming for regular admission through merit.
  • Explore the Management Quota option only if the regular admission process doesn't work out and ensure you meet the set criteria.
