Q:   Which is better NIT & COEP, Pune for Computer Engineering?

A:

National Institute of Technology (NITs) are most prestigious engineering college after Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The standard of education is very high in NITs because students that help students in developing in inculcating various technical as well as theoretical skills required to be a top class engineer. Also, the computer engineering department of NIT is very well-equipped with top faculty members and different coding clubs, which helps computer Science students become very well versed with the latest technologies required by the IT or software industry. Besides the quality of education, placement records are record-breaking.

Although COEP is also a top government engineering college that has become an autonomous university with a good education quality and placement, it can’t be compared with NIT in any parameters.

Hence, NIT is better than COEP, Pune, for candidates willing to take admission in the Computer Engineering branch.

Yes, the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) accepts the scorecard of JEE-Main. But most seats are sanctioned for Maharashtra domicile students and are filled through MHT-CET. College offers excellent placements, vibrant campus atmosphere, and significant scope for practical
Placements: I am from the Computer Engineering department, which has excellent placements with over 90% of students placed. The highest salary package offered is 52 LPA. The average salary package offered is 17 LPA and the lowest salary package offered is 8 LPA. Top recruiters include D.E. Shaw, Nutanix, Arcesium, Marvell, Wells Fargo, and many more. Many students also secured internships in these leading companies, with top roles offered in software development, system design, and data analytics.
Infrastructure: College infrastructure is good, with 24/7 Wi-Fi access and decent mess facilities, though there is room for improvement. Canteen is satisfactory, with food quality rated as good. Sport facilities are excellent, with COEP offering well-maintained infrastructure for various sports activities. Each department has its own building, and a new building for the Computer department is under construction.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified, knowledgeable, and always helpful, providing valuable guidance to students. Teaching quality is excellent, with a focus on practical and industry-relevant knowledge. Course curriculum is similar to that of IITs and is regularly updated to ensure students are industry-ready. Semester exams are moderately challenging but manageable with proper preparation.
Other: I have always been interested in computers and how they work, which inspired me to choose this course. Best aspects of the course are its well-designed curriculum and excellent placements opportunities. But, I feel there should be more emphasis on practical knowledge rather than theoretical learning. College life is vibrant, with a wide range of events, fests, and extracurricular activities that keep the campus lively. Connectivity is excellent, and numerous events make it an exciting place to learn and grow.

Its a 2024 placement update.
Placements: For the computer depth, most of the students without any backlogs get placed. Companies offering a variety of roles come during the pre-final year and final year of college. The salary package offered varies from 8 LPA - 52 LPA. Top recruiters are Nutanix and DE Shaw. Some of the other recruiters are AlgoQuant, Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, Citi Bank, Mastercard, and NPCI. Most of the roles are for software developers.
Infrastructure: Computer department does not have a special building for it, it is under construction. There is a building that has all the labs, but there are no classrooms. They are conducted in the academic complex. The rest of the infrastructure is good. Wi-Fi on the campus is not good. Library of the department and college is excellent. Separate membership should be applied for both libraries.
Faculty: Most teachers are qualified and knowledgeable. Some of them don't have enough knowledge of their field and just teach anything. The teaching quality is okay. We need to study from YouTube for many courses. Course curriculum is quite relevant. Some of the courses, like SEMP, make students industry-ready. College examinations are not that difficult.

Absolutely dissatisfied because of the faculty, but placements are good.
Placements: The placements are really good for the computer branch, where about 90% got placed this year with an average package of 16 LPA and the highest around 54 LPA. The top recruiters are Tata Phonepe, etc. The roles offered are like data scientist, analyst, web developer, software developer, etc. The placements are just good enough for computer students only, as the placements for other branches are very low compared to these.
Infrastructure: All the things like Wi-Fi labs, classrooms, and libraries are available for our department, but sometimes the Wi-Fi doesn't even work. The food in our mess is good, i.e., 8/10, and there are also medical facilities available with a big playground available for outdoor games.
Faculty: The faculty members are well qualified, but all the faculty members think they are the best, and there is no competition for them. Also, the semester is not very tough. The teachers now, as the university has become a university, don't have any limits on the syllabus they want to keep, so no extra knowledge is gained by the students.
Other: The events at this college are the best thing you should watch out for.

College of Engineering, Pune has LEGACY.
Placements: 73% of students were placed. The highest package was 50.50 LPA, the lowest was 4 LPA, and the median was 10-13 LPA. Top recruiters at COEP include TCS, Wipro, Infosys, IBM, Tech Mahindra, and Accenture. Companies that have visited the campus include Microsoft, Amazon, ZS Associates, Citi Bank, HDFC Bank, HSBC, and Rakuten. Giant recruiters at COEP include Nvidia, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Tata Motors, and Tata Elxsi. Major recruiters that visited in 2020-21 include Standard Chartered GBS Pvt. Ltd., Arcesium India Pvt. Ltd., D.E. Shaw, and Citi India.
Infrastructure: Fully facilitated food, sports, and games are available. We have lots of clubs, and full equipment is available. There are almost 7 to 10 sports clubs, which provide a lot of exposure. We have our legacy with the boating club; not many colleges have a boating club, so it's all about COEP.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and have lots of skills to learn from. The content is not always relevant, but it's good. As students, you are surrounded by pure geniuses. The level of semesters is medium hard. You may join the college by giving MHT CET or JEE Main.

Exceptional Faculty, Outstanding Placement Opportunities, and State-Of-The-Art Facilities.
Placements: Nearly 80 percent of students from the 2024 batch have been placed. This year, the highest package offered is 52 LPA, while the lowest is 6 LPA, with an average package around 17 LPA. Top companies include DESHAW and Co., MasterCard, Deutsche Bank, and BNY Mellon, with most roles being for software development engineers.
Infrastructure: The hostel campus is spacious and well-equipped, providing free access to LAN and Wi-Fi. The mess food is of good quality, and the canteen area is also excellent. The hostel offers free medical facilities and has a large field for sports.
Faculty: The teachers at COEP are highly supportive and exceptionally well-qualified. Their teaching quality is commendable. The course curriculum is highly relevant to engineering practices, ensuring students are industry-ready. Exams are moderately to highly challenging.
Other: I chose this college because it is one of the best in Maharashtra through MHT CET. However, the overall culture could be improved.
