Q:   Which has better placement at Heritage Institute of Technology, B.Tech in CSE or B.Tech in ECE?

A:

When it comes to placements at Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT), both B.Tech in CSE and B.Tech in ECE have their own strengths and advantages, making it difficult to definitively say which one has "better" placements. The choice can depend on your individual interests, skills, and career aspirations.

B.Tech in CSE:

  • Higher Average Package: Generally speaking,  the average package for CSE graduates at HIT tends to be higher than that for ECE graduates. Recent reports suggest an average package of around INR 6-7 LPA for CSE,  compared to INR 5-6 LPA for ECE.
  • More Top Recruiters: IT giants like Infosys,  Wipro,  TCS,  and Google tend to actively recruit CSE graduates at HIT,  offering opportunities in software development,  cloud computing,  data analytics,  and other high-demand fields.
  • Wide Variety of Roles: With the booming IT sector,  CSE graduates have access to a diverse range of career paths beyond traditional software development,  including cybersecurity,  AI/ML,  and blockchain technology.

B.Tech in ECE:

  • Core Engineering Focus: If you enjoy the hands-on aspects of electronics and hardware,  ECE offers a more core engineering curriculum compared to CSE's software focus.
  • Growing Demand: With advancements in automation and smart devices,  the demand for skilled ECE graduates is on the rise. This opens doors to exciting opportunities in robotics,  telecommunications,  VLSI design,  and embedded systems.
  • Specialist Roles: Beyond IT companies,  leading engineering firms like Tata Advanced Systems and other electronics manufacturers actively recruit ECE graduates,  offering lucrative careers in specific technology domains.

Additional factors to consider:

  • Your Interest: Ultimately,  choosing between CSE and ECE should be based on your genuine interest and aptitude in either field. You'll be dedicating years to the chosen field,  so passion is crucial.
  • Future Career Goals: Do you envision yourself coding and building software solutions in the IT world,  or are you drawn to the more physical aspects of designing and developing electronic hardware?  Aligning your goals with the strengths of each programme is key.
  • Research Industry Trends: Stay updated on current and future trends in both IT and Electronics sectors. This can help you understand the potential growth and job opportunities in each field.

Conclusion:

Neither CSE nor ECE is inherently "better" in terms of placements at HIT. Both offer promising career prospects with unique advantages. Evaluating your personal interests, desired career path, and industry trends will help you make the most informed decision. Consider attending college open houses and speaking to alumni from both programs to gain deeper insights before choosing your B.Tech path at HIT.

Absolutely satisfied because of course outcomes, social connection, and placements in 2024.
Placements: About 85-90% of students get placed every year with an average package of 6-7 LPA, and this year's highest was 1.3 CPA from the IT branch. Recruiting companies include Amazon, Wipro, TCS, Capgemini, LG, Microsoft, etc. From AIML, this year 90% were placed, and companies like Wipro and TCS recruited.
Infrastructure: Facilities like AC rooms (for M. Tech students only), AC labs, a huge library with a vast collection, great Wi-Fi, and well-maintained classrooms are available. Hostel food and the environment are up to the mark, and the behavior of peers in the hostel is quite manageable.
Faculty: Professors and mentors are really helpful if one has an interest in the domain, and they are really knowledgeable about the domain they are specialized in. The course outcomes are followed, and it covers the latest technologies too. Semester exams are completely based on what was taught in class.
Other: I chose AIML over others as it is the most demanding domain and has a brighter future down the line. The course syllabus is really covered with the latest technologies and ideas that will help in creating something unique in the future. Connectivity and social interaction are really great, but a flaw is that there is no fest, sadly.

The campus is excellent and faculty members are very helpful.
Placements: Almost 90%-95% of students got placed in CSE, CSE specialisation branches, and IT. The average salary package offered is 7 LPA and the lowest salary package offered is 6 LPA. Companies like TCS, Wipro, and Cognizant are there but IBM and Oracle are also present. I don't think students need to be tense about their placements if students study well and earn good skills.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of our college is the best in everything. Proper ground, canteen, Wi-Fi, everything is available. But one thing is that most classes don't have air conditioner. It's the only con in infrastructure. Rest everything is fine and one will get good exposure in our college life.
Faculty: Faculty are very helpful. Almost every faculty member is from Jadavpur, IITs, or NITs. They will guide students in every aspect we ask them about. As it is an autonomous college, if students follow the class, they will definitely score well. There are also surprise tests after the completion of every module.
Other: I chose this course because honestly speaking, this is the best college according to my rank. I could have chosen electrical or mechanical engineering in Jalpaiguri, but I wanted CSE, so I chose this.

Good campus to roam around. Great faculty members that will help you get through your semesters.
Placements: Placement at our college is somewhat inconsistent. Some years, we see reputable companies like Adobe offering a high package of 13 LPA. However, the average package tends to be around 3-4 LPA. It's considered fortunate to secure placements in product-based companies, with many seniors landing roles in good companies with packages ranging from 6-7 LPA.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure at this college is relatively better than other private colleges in Kolkata. The campus is spacious, offering ample space to move around. The labs are well-equipped with modern technologies. Notably, the computer labs are located in the basement, and there are sufficient computers to accommodate the needs of the students.
Faculty: While not all teachers may be equally helpful, many are willing to assist if you reach out to them via WhatsApp or approach them directly with your concerns. The course curriculum is generally similar to that of other private colleges, as it falls under the autonomous board of MAUKAT.

Good college but you have to attend most of the classes and labs.
Placements: I am in my first year of AIML. From next year, which means 2024, our first batch of AIML will sit in the placements in 2024. But our course is good, and the chapters included are very placement-oriented. Here you can also find the placements of IT companies.
Infrastructure: Our college offers Wi-Fi on campus, but when you go to other departments like Wi-Fi will not be supported. The boys hostel is not available on campus but outside, but only for 1 year; after that, you have to shift to another. The boys outside the hostel are 4 kilometers away from the college, where only 28 students are present. Labs are good.
Faculty: Professors are well qualified and knowledgeable, too. But in our curriculum, there are 4 modules simultaneously taking the class to complete the syllabus quickly. But if you ask the professor any doubt, they will guide you well. From time to time, you have to give a surprise test.
Other: From last few years placements records are down, but off campus placements are good.

The college infrastructure is good, and campus life is awesome.
Placements: In computer science and engineering, almost 80% of students got placed. You have to apply for an internship off-campus as there are many opportunities. Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Cognizant and IBM are the on-campus recruiting companies. But this year, Amazon offered 48 LPA to 17 students. So, it depends on your programming skills.
Infrastructure: The labs and classrooms are well furnished and well-equipped with many new and advanced equipment, but in the online mode of study, they play videos of topics, but you can easily understand things. I have attended offline classes. Mechanical, electrical, etc., labs are world-class, and also the teachers are good.
Faculty: The teachers are not much qualified, but it is okay because it is a private college. Some teachers are very helpful, and some will come only to complete the syllabus. I can say 7 out of 10 faculty members will come only to complete the syllabus. So, you have to study from elsewhere, like YouTube and other platforms.
Other: The fests in our college are among the best in West Bengal. After JU fest, our college has the best cultural fest. There are many clubs, but the most famous is the rotaract club. For dance, there is Ghoongru, and for singing, there is Resonance club. You can join any of them.

Q:   Can I join Heritage Institute of Technology directly?

A:

Whether you can directly join Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) depends on what you mean by "directly." Here are the different ways of joining HIT:

Regular Admissions:

  • No direct admissions: Unfortunately,  HIT doesn't offer direct admissions for any B.Tech program. You need to go through the regular admission process,  which involves:
    • Qualifying in either WBJEE or JEE Main exams.
    • Meeting the minimum cut-off score for your desired program.
    • Participating in the counselling process and securing a seat based on your rank and programme choices.

Other Admission Options:

  • Lateral Entry: If you've completed a Diploma in engineering,  you can apply for lateral entry to the second year of a B.Tech programme at HIT. Admission is based on a separate entrance exam conducted by WBJEE.
  • Management Quota: Some seats in each B.Tech programme are reserved under the Management Quota. While not "direct" in the strict sense,  this might offer an alternative route for admission if you meet the eligibility criteria and pay the required fees.

Important Points:

  • The Management Quota seats are limited and admission isn't guaranteed. Merit and other criteria set by the institute determine selection.
  • Regardless of the quota you apply under,  fulfilling the program's eligibility criteria (e.g.,  minimum percentage in qualifying exams) remains mandatory.

Recommendations:

  • Check the official HIT website or contact the admissions office for the latest information on B.Tech admission procedures and specific eligibility requirements for different options.
  • Focus on preparing for WBJEE or JEE Main if aiming for regular admission through merit.
  • Explore the Management Quota option only if the regular admission process doesn't work out and ensure you meet the set criteria.

Q:   How many students can do B.Tech at Heritage Institute of Technology?

A:

The Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programme has a duration of four years and follows specific admission criteria:

1. Eligibility:

  • Candidates need to have completed their H.S. (10+2) examination from the Council of Higher Secondary Education, West Bengal, or an equivalent qualification. Additionally, they should have qualified for the joint entrance examination conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board.

2. Entrance Examinations:

  • Prospective students need to qualify for either the Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEE) or the JEE (Main) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. The candidates should be recommended by the WBJEE Board.

3. Seat Allocation:

  • 80% of the seats are reserved for qualified WBJEE candidates.
  • 10% of the seats are allocated to qualified JEE (main) candidates.
  • An additional 10% of seats are reserved under the Management Quota for candidates with valid rank cards for WBJEE or JEE (Main).

4. Lateral Entry:

  • In the second year, there is provision for an additional intake of 10% of the approved intake.
  • This is specifically for Diploma holders and B.Sc. degree holders who qualify through the Joint Entrance Examination for Lateral Entry (JELET) conducted by the WBJEE Board. Candidates have to score an aggregate of 45% in the three compulsory subjects in the 10+2 to apply for the WBJEE 2024 exam.
