Applicants with a three or four-year BSc degree in a relevant field from an accredited university or institute are eligible to apply for admission to the MSc course at IIT Mandi. The exact qualifying requirements are listed in the regulations that are periodically authorised by the institute's senate and released by the institute for admission in each year. The total tuition fee for two-year course is INR 20,000 and the hostel fee (excluding meal plan) is INR 88,000. IIT Mandi shortlists students for MSc based on their scores in the IIT JAM entrance exam. Further, the shortlisted candidates are called for CCMN Counselling. At the time of counselling, seat allotment is carried out on the basis of exam score, seat intake, reservation policy, and cut-off.
