B.E./B.Tech at IIT Bhilai: A Good Choice?

Pros:

IIT Bhilai, which is situated in Raipur, was established by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) in 2016. The institute offers twenty undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programmes in liberal arts, science, and engineering. In the category of "engineering," IIT Bhilai is ranked 81st by the National Institute of Research Foundation (NIRF). IIT Bhilai collaborates with numerous engineering and technology-related public and business organisations, including the Bhilai Steel Plant, CDAC Pune, the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority (CBDA), and many more. Additionally, IIT Bhilai reported a 100% placement rate for M.Tech students in CSE, EE, and DSAI at the campus placements for 2023.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is a group of Engineering and Technology institutions in India. This network of institutes came into existence in 1950. Both IIT Bhilai and NIT Raipur are very good engineering institutes but to be specific about whether IIT Bhilai is better than NIT Raipur we have to review two important factors; tuition fee (BTech) and the average package offered during the placement drive for IIT Bhilai and NIT Raipur. IIT Bhilai accepts admission based on the scoring in JEE Main and JEE Advanced entrance exams. There is no other provision for admission. It is compulsory for students to take the JEE Main exam. Opening and Closing rank depends on the category and quota of candidates. For the general category under All India, the opening rank was 12484 and the closing rank was 14404. Cut off are different regarding other categories or female candidates and even the domicile of the home state. In All India, the opening and closing rank for female candidates was 3884 and 21510. Admission to B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bhilai - Indian Institute of Technology is based on the scores obtained in the entrance exam JEE Advanced. IIIT Allahabad accpets JEE Main score for admission to the BTech courses. As per the IIIT Allahabad cutoff 2023, the Last Round closing rank for BTech ranged between 5924 and 9558, among which Information Technology was the most competitive specialisation. The Round 1 closing rank for BTech ranged between 4817 and 8428 for BTech. 

So, considering the previous year Round 1 and the Last Round closing ranks, candidates seeking admission to IIIT Allahabad must secure a rank over and above 4800 and 9600 for the General ALL India category candidates.

Yes, IIT Bhilai offers various categories of scholarships to its UG as well as PG students. It encourages its students to apply for scholarships so that their path toward academic excellence could be supported well. The details of all IIT Bhilai scholarships are provided below:

• Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship: This scholarship is available to a maximum of 25% of undergraduate students in the UR and OBC categories.
• SC/ST Scholarship: This can be availed by all undergraduate students belonging to SC and ST categories. The eligible students are able to avail of free food and boarding as well as an allowance of Rs 250 per month.
• Free Studentship Scholarship: Ten per cent of the total students in undergraduate programmes can avail of the grant of free studentship.

IIT Bhilai is ranked 81 for Engineering by NIRF 2023. Considered under the top 100 eminent institutes in the country for Engineering education, the cutoffs are comparatively higher. In JoSAA Round 6 of 2024, BTech CSE was the top course with the highest cutoff score of 5932. For other courses, such as Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, the cutoff score stood at 6732 in the R-6. Hence, it is true that it is little difficult to get into IIT Bhilai. However, with the right preparation and study strategy, it is never impossible to achieve the goal.
