A:

The cutoff list of the University College of Engineering is released soon after the result of JEE Mains. The dates might vary in different years according to the calendar and the timing of the entrance examination. The college cut-off list is usually published on its official website. Q:   What is the Jee Mains cutoff for University College of Engineering 2024?

A:

Cutoff for the University College of Engineering under the JEE Mains for 2024 will depend on the particular program, and the category of the applicant: General, OBC, SC, or ST; and competition. In general, cutoff marks for popular engineering streams are usually in between 80 and 150.

You can visit the Shiksha website for more information on cutoffs.

Q:   Is University College of Engineering Tier 1 or Tier 2?

A:

University College of Engineering (UCE) falls under Tier 2. Here's why:

- NIRF Ranking (2023): 201-250 band (Engineering)

- NAAC Accreditation: A Grade (CGPA 3.24/4)

- NBA Accreditation: Yes (5 UG programs)

- Autonomy: Granted (2023)

- Student-faculty ratio: 14:1

- Placement percentage: 80-90%

- Average package: INR 6-8 lakhs

Although there are positive remarks and achievements with regard to areas of specialization of each college, the ranking and research produced categorize UCE under Tier 2. Generally, Tier 1 institutions include IITs, NITs, and most of the private university that falls into the ranking category of the above-mentioned institutions.

Q:   Is it easy to get admission in University College of Engineering?

A:

Admission to the University College of Engineering is highly competitive but not beyond one's control. TS EAMCET entrance examination qualifies a student, and the general categories must hold at least 36%. Cut-off ranks are remarkably different as per the courses selected, as certain branches demand a better rank than others. Direct admission is not available. Counseling process, however centralizes admissions based on performance scores in the entrance examinations. In general, securing a spot is not easy, but motivation and eligibility ensure this accessibility for students.

The infrastructure is not quite good. Lifts are not working here.
Placements: I am currently in 2nd year, so I do not know much about placement. I have heard that placements are average on campus. Students can atleast get a salary that ranges from Rs. 40,000-50,000 per month if they are in the top 20 in their branch, which is quite less than required for a person to enjoy themselves.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi facilities are not quite good. The internet speed is not more than 10 Mbps. ID and password do not match, so students cannot access it. Labs are quite well built, especially labs with computers and electronics labs are equipped with sufficient equipment. Hostels are not quite good. There is no new canteen.
Faculty: ECE department teachers are quite good and tend to students' problems anytime. They have good behavior towards teaching. After the 3rd semester, the study seems relevant for the branch. Subjects are quite interesting and not too easy so that anybody can study them.
Other: Fests should be organised till 9 pm as they are finished very early. Campus crowd is quite good on college days. Extracurricular activities are conducted on many occasions.

Good placements and worth the money. Satisfied with the awesome atmosphere.
Placements: Placements are done on merit. Meritorious students get placed in multinational companies easily. 25% of our seniors got placed last year. Their minimum salary offered was 35000 rupees and the average goes up to 40000 rupees. Another 30% of the students got an internship.
Infrastructure: The college provides a good infrastructure and facilities. The highly developed campus provides all the international standard facilities like gym, Wi-Fi, labs etc. The classrooms are hi-tech. Each student is provided with Wi-Fi passwords which is free to use. Canteens are up to the mark.
Faculty: Well-qualified faculty members make the college top-notch in the west. The faculty members are very helpful and caring. They ensure that all the students get a peaceful place to study. Extracurricular activities like national service schemes are a part of our campus and are well encouraged by the institution. 20:1 is the student to faculty ratio.

I’m more disappointed than happy.
Placements: Not many placement options are there in PUP for B.Tech. Last year only 3 companies visited and only 12 students were placed. Top recruiting company is Solitaire Infosys. Students from my course which is ECE (electronic and communications) got internships in Solitaire Infosys and Novem Controls.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are well structured and so are the labs. WiFi is provided in labs only and in a few of the classrooms as well. Hostels are not so good here, they are not well kept and drainage and water problems are constant. The campus cameras do not work properly and no security is provided to the students.
Faculty: The faculty is great. The teachers are helpful and are ready to assist you in any situation making the students industry ready. They have relevant subjects added to the course like communication skills and many more. The placements cell starts interviews from 2nd year itself to make you ready. Exams here are moderate and not so hard to crack.
Other: Many other things happen here along with studies like events being organised to make students comfortable. Crispolatia, sports events, study related events, and entrepreneurship events are held at regular intervals.

Excellent place to study at but low in placements.
Placements: Honestly saying, Placements of our college has been decreasing year by year. There were many companies that visited our campus when I had just joined but if I see today's scenario, there are only reputed brands like Infosys and Indian Army coming for recruitment. The major recruiters are Infosys & Cognizant. Our senior batches have got more offers from many other like Tech Mahindra, TCS, Accenture. But now these companies have stopped coming to our college. But, now some new companies paying low stipend are visiting our campus so it's a mixed game. The percentage of students placed is around 60-65% actually because the university is famous for generating backlogs for his own benefits. Getting an internship can be somewhat easy today searching it online as college is providing only a few internships only. The highest packages offered by a merchant navy company was around 7 lac (1 student got selected) and average package is around 2-2.5 lac for Infosys. New companies visiting our campus only provide 1-1.5 lac packages.
Infrastructure: The building of our college is state of the art with modern architecture and greenery all around. UCOE is a part of Punjabi University and one can freely move between other departments. The whole university is huge. You cannot visit it by foot and need a vehicle to go to library or cafeteria. The university has approx 5-6 eating spots like Happiness Cafe, Cafeteria Ucoe, Baghwan Das Canteen and very famous Gol Market where you can get all your stuff from eating to stationary. The university has many gardens and parks where you can study in free time. Gobind Bhawan and park around it is very famous to see lots of happy crowd around. Our campus has spacious classrooms. Wi-Fi is not present in the campus and that's a big con. The only place to get Wi-Fi is at the library & workshop. Coming to sports & games, I can proudly say that our university is the best place for sports activities. In fact, if you don't believe me, you can search on Google for best university for sports. Recently our university was ranked 1st in sports in all India. Our university is having plenty of sports grounds for hockey, football, basketball, archery, kabbadi and other sports. Coming to the hostel, it's not very good. Some rooms are not properly maintained but overall it's average as you can not get many facilities as compared to private colleges. The food in mess is also average but also it varies from hostel to hostel. The hostel has one TV room which is not big if many persons come to watch tv, especially in cricket season. Thankfully there is Wi-Fi, hostelers can use it but it's not having a great speed. Also, the connectivity is not good for many telecom service providers like Jio, Reliance, Tata DoCoMo. One more thing, our campus is having 8 floors and also 3 lifts for boys and 2 for girls i.e. 5 in total but majorly only 2-3 work and many times it's seen that no lift is working. So climbing to the 8th floor can be a tough deal but one can get used to it.
Faculty: The faculty members of our college are having great knowledge and are very well qualified. Yes, there is somewhat a lack of strictness which should not be there as it affects studies. The ECE course which I have taken is not good to learn from here as there is a lack of equipment in labs, especially CRO is always faulty. But they are now trying to get new equipment. This is good for new students coming for admission. Many teachers will help you and are friendly. Also they will motivate you in your whole course and also give you valuable advice for your career and life. But very few teachers can be arrogant and egotistic. Sorry if i sound harsh but you will face this if you come here. The course curriculum taught was successful and its varies from professor to professor. Every teacher uses their own way of teaching and many a time we have to do self study on many topics not covered in the semester.
Other: UCOE, Punjabi University is a great place to study. You can get an excellent atmosphere to study. You will get a vast amount of knowledge from some helpful faculty members. Excellent for sports. But for placements, results, hostels, food in hostels, labs, few members of faculty, one may opt of many other options in the regions like Thapar University, Chitkara University, Chandigarh University, Rayat Bahara, LPU. In my opinion, One should opt for Chitkara University as they provide excellent placements and great study atmosphere. Punjabi University is not giving appropriate grades to students that they deserve and benefiting themselves by generating backlogs.

Other: It is a pretty decent college in terms of infrastructure and placements, particularly good for CSE and ME students as there are not much opportunities for ECE students. It is a nice university in terms of campus and other areas like library/sports auditorium, hostels and canteens.
