TNEA is the short form of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions. It is conducted by the Directorate Of Technical Education (DOTE) Chennai and earlier, TNEA was conducted by Anna University. TNEA is organised every year for admission to engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu in online mode. Applicants seeking admission to undergraduate engineering courses offered by the colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu have to register for TNEA with their class 12 marks. More than 1.5 lakh engineering aspirants get themselves enrolled into engineering colleges of Tamil Nadu.
Candidates are evaluated only based on their performance in the class 12th qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as their main subjects. Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu conducts Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission TNEA 2025. Earlier, TNEA counselling was conducted by Anna University. TNEA counselling is a single-window process and admissions in Tamil Nadu engineering colleges are offered through such a process because authorities believe that such an initiative facilitates transparency. TNEA rank list is used to offer admissions to candidates in undergraduate programmes like Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in colleges of Tamil Nadu. Candidates must note that TNEA written exam has been scrapped as the counselling is based on Class 12 marks and therefore seats are allotted in the colleges through the TNEA rank list.

Established in 1998, the MCET is a private self-financing institute approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated to Anna University. The institute offers 8 undergraduate and 6 postgraduate courses. Undergraduate engineering courses offered by MCET are Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation, Mechanical, Automobile, Computer Science and Engineering, Civil, Production, Mechatronics Engineering.
2. PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore
Established in 1951, the college is a government-aided autonomous institution affiliated with Anna University. The campus is well equipped to provide its students with 48 full-time and part-time courses in the field of computer applications, science and management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The popular streams in the BTech programme are Automobile, civil, Robotics & Automation, Information and Mechanical Engineering provided on the campus.
3. Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai
Funded by the Central and State Governments, the college offers undergraduate engineering programmes with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approval. The college offers seven undergraduate, 14 postgraduate and doctoral programmes in engineering, science and architecture. Students can opt for various branches in undergraduate engineering courses such as B.E. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communications, Computer Science and Engineering, BTech Information Technology and B.Arch. Architecture.

TNEA 2025 rank list will be out in June tentatively. The rank / merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the relevant subjects, namely, Maths Physics and Chemistry which is reduced to 200, Maths -100, Physics - 50 and Chemistry - 50. After the normalisation of marks in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by different Boards, the qualified students shall be merged into a common merit list. The overall rank and community rank are published on the official TNEA website. A week is reserved for addressing applicants grievances after the publication of the rank. In case of grievances, applicants can contact the Office of the Secretary, TNEA at the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai 600 025.
Candidates whose names appear in the rank list will have to appear for the counselling rounds. The counselling rounds include Choice Filling, Allotment, Confirmation of Allotment, and Reporting to College/TFC and payment of fees depending upon their confirmation.

As per the First Graduate Tuition Fee Concession in TNEA, the Government have ordered to grant tuition fee concession to the candidates who are to be the first graduate in a family, those who are attending counselling and joined in professional courses in Government / Aided and Self-Financing Engineering Colleges. They have to submit the following:
- Certificate obtained from Head Quarters Deputy Tahsildar in the format prescribed in G.O. Electronic form/ digitally signed e-Certificate only will be accepted which necessarily should include name of applicant’s father, mother, father’s father, father’s mother, mother’s father, mother’s mother, brother(s) and sister(s) and joint declaration by himself and parent/guardian in the prescribed format.
Note: If the applicant’s Brother or Sister has already availed First Graduate Tuition Fee concession for studying Professional Courses, then the applicant is not eligible for such concession.

5. Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore
Recognised by the AICTE and NAAC, Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) is a government-aided autonomous engineering college.
