Banaras Hindu University (BHU) PhD Admission 2020 is offered on the basis of Research Entrance Test (RET) conducted by the university. Interested and eligible candidates can apply for BHU RET 2020 on the official site of BHU and the exam is expected to take place in October 2020. Candidates who have passed their Master’s degree (10+2+3+2 pattern) are eligible to apply for BHU RET 2020.

BHU PhD Admission Process 2020

All admissions to PhD programmes at Banaras Hindu University will be through a national level Research Eligibility Test (RET). So as to identify the scholastic capabilities and aptitude for research, there are three levels of this test as mentioned below:

  • Test A: To assess Logical and Analytical Capability
  • Test B: To assess Subject Knowledge Test
  • Test C: Research proposal and Personal Interview to test aptitude for research

Tests A and B take place on a single day at multiple centres across the country while Test C will take place at BHU in the concerned Department/School/Centre. Candidates who are exempted from appearing for Tests A and B (RET-exempt category), but would be required to qualify the Test C to become eligible for registration for PhD.

A pass in MD (Ay.)/ MS (Ay.) recognised by CCIM OR Master’s degree in any one of the allied subjects with at least 55% in aggregate or equivalent grade point in the qualifying exam

Dental Sciences

A pass in Master’s Degree in Dental Surgery or Master’s degree in any one of the allied subject with at least 55% aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying exam (wherever the marks/grades are awarded)

Environmental and Sustainable Development

A pass in Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts under four year course and Master’s degree in Fine Arts i.e. MFA in applied Art OR MFA in Plastic Arts (Sculpture) OR MFA in Painting OR in Textile Design OR MFA in Pottery Ceramic with at least 55% in aggregate or equivalent grade point in the qualifying exam

BHU PhD Application Process 2020

The application form for RET is available on the BHU’s entrance test portal. The online application making process has six steps:

Step 1: Register online on the official website and authenticate your email id and mobile number

Step 2: Fill up the identification details

Candidates are required to fill up an identification form giving particulars of the documents to authenticate their identity. For this, the following photo identification documents are required:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Passport
  • Voter ID
  • Bank Passbook affixed with photograph
  • Driving License
  • Pan Card
  • Any other valid Government ID Number
  • Admit Card issued by the concerned Boards

Step 3: Fill up the form and select the desired course

Step 4: Upload your photograph and signature

Step 5: Make payment of application processing/ entrance test fee

Step 6: Take out a printout of the Application Form for record
