PUBDET or Presidency University Bachelor's Degree Entrance Test which is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) is held to shortlist candidates in BA and BSc (honours) courses offered at Presidency University, Kolkata. It is to be mentioned here that PUBDET consists of separate entrance exams that are held to offer admission to students in various science and humanities courses at Presidency University. PUBDET is conducted to provide admission to candidates at the undergraduate level. It is to be noted here that while filling the PUBDET form can apply for a maximum of any two subjects. Q:   What is the academic eligibility criteria for PUBDET exam?

A:

Candidates interested to appear in PUBDET exam are required to check the eligibility criteria for the exam mentioned below. Check out the academic qualification below:

  • Candidates should have cleared higher secondary examination (XII) that is conducted by CBSE, West Bengal or equivalent exam, not before 2020.
  • The candidate must pass XII with at least five recognised subjects, including English language and excluding Environmental Science. The aggregate is to be calculated in the best four recognised subjects.

Q:   Can I choose the PUBDET exam centre?

A:

Yes. Candidates can choose the exam centre the nearest to them. However, candidates are advised that once the application form is submitted, the candidate can not change their exam centre so be careful.The allocation of the PUBDET exam centres was based on the choices gave by the candidate during the online form fill up. However, the centre mentioned will be final and no changes will be made. No request for change of allocated centre will be entertained under normal circumstances.

Q:   In which cities can I appear for PUBDET exam?

A:

During on line application, the candidate has to choose any 2 (two) of the following examination zones.

Nationality: In order to apply for the PUBDET exam, candidates should be Citizen of India.

Age Limit: To apply for the PUBDET age, no upper or lower age limit is there.

Academic Qualification: Apart from the above mentioned criteria, candidates should meet the required academic qualification.

  • Candidates must have qualified higher secondary examination (XII) which is held by CBSE, West Bengal or equivalent exam, not before 2020.

Notably, to get admission in respective courses, aspirants must also fulfil the academic criteria for admission as given below:

Special Academic Criteria

Bengali

The candidate may apply from Arts / Science stream at 10+2 level. The candidate must have Bengali as one subject with 60% marks in Bengali.

English

The candidate may apply from Arts / Science stream at 10+2 level. The candidate must have English as one subject with 65% marks in English-A (WBHS) or 75% in English.

History

The candidate has to apply from Arts stream at 10+2 level. The candidate must have History as one subject with 65% marks in History.

Philosophy

The candidate may apply from Arts / Science / Commerce stream at 10+2 level. The candidate must have English as one subject with 65% marks in English.

Political Science

The candidate may apply from Arts / Science stream at 10+2 level. The candidate must have English as one subject with 60% marks in English.

Sociology

The candidate may apply from Arts / Science / Commerce stream at 10+2 level. The candidate must have English as one subject with 70% marks in English.

Hindi

The candidate may apply from Arts / Science stream at 10+2 level. The candidate must have Hindi as one subject with 60% marks in Hindi.

Performing Arts

The candidate may apply from Arts / Science stream at 10+2 level. The candidate must have English as one subject with 60% marks in English.

Physics

The candidate has to apply from Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2 level. The candidate must have secured 80% in Physics and 80% in Mathematics.

Chemistry

The candidate has to apply from Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2 level. The candidate must have secured 80% in Chemistry.

Mathematics

The candidate has to apply from Science stream with Mathematics as one subject at 10+2 level. The candidate must have secured 80% in Mathematics.

Statistics

The candidate has to apply from Science stream with Mathematics as one subject at 10+2 level. The candidate must have secured 80% in Mathematics or 80% in Statistics (if Statistics is one of the subjects taken at the 10+2 level).

Life Sciences

The candidate has to apply from Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Statistics and Biology at 10+2 level.

Economics

The candidate may apply from Arts / Science / Commerce stream at 10+2 level. The candidate must have Mathematics (not Business Mathematics) as one subject with 70% marks in English (A/B) and 75% in Mathematics.

Geography

The candidate may apply from Arts / Science stream with any three of the following subjects at 10+2 level: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, History, Geography, Geology.

Geology

The candidate has to apply from Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2 level. The candidate must have secured 70% in each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

A:

Yes, reserved category candidates get some relaxation on the minimum marks required in the class 12 final exams. The minimum aggregate scores vary from subject to subject. 

Q:   What academic qualifications do I need to apply for Geography programme through PUBDET?

A:

In order to apply for an undergraduate Geography programme through PUBDET candidates must have studied Arts/ Science in their high school with at least three of the following subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, History, Geography, and Geology.

Q:   I want to do an MA in English at Presidency University. What eligibility criteria should I meet?

A:

To apply for an MA in English, aspirants must first appear for PUBDET. For this particular course, they must have studied Arts or Science with English as one of the subjects. They should have also scored 65% marks in English-A (WBHS) or 75% in English.

Q:   I have applied for BA Philosophy course, can I give the paper in Bengali?

A:

Yes, if you have enrolled in  Govt./Govt. Aided or Govt Sponsored  College in West Bengal, which is under Government of WB you have the option of writing in English as well as Bengali.

No, the PUBDET result is not published in the form of a merit list. The exam body announces the result in the form of Rank Cards for each examinee separately. They must log on to the official website to download their rank cards. These rank cards must also be produced during the counselling session.

The application fee for PUBDET is INR 500 (excluding bank charges for internet services). Applicants must pay this fee while filling the application form. It can be paid using Net Banking/ Debit Card/ Credit Card or by cash using Allahabad Bank e-challan.
