PUBDET 2024 or Presidency University Bachelor's Degree Entrance Test is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). PUBDET exam is held to offer admission to candidates in courses such as BA and BSc (honours) at Presidency University, Kolkata. Through PUBDET exam, candidates can get admission in various streams such as Humanities and Science at undergraduate level. Notably, candidates willing to apply for the PUBDET exam, can apply for a maximum of any two subjects. PUBDET 2024 exam is scheduled to be held on July 27, 2024 and July 28, 2024. PUBDET 2024 application process is over. Q:   Will the PUBDET exam be conducted on a Computer?

A:

The PUBDET exam will be conducted in offline mode i.e. pen and paper test. The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) conducts the Presidency University Bachelor's Degree Entrance Test (PUBDET) in order to shortlist aspirants for admission in BA and BSc  (honours) programmes offered at Presidency University, Kolkata. PUBDET comprises separate entrance exams that are conducted to offer admission to aspirants in different Science and humanities programmes offered at Presidency University at the undergraduate level. 

Q:   When will PUBDET 2025 be conducted?

A:

The exam body, WBJEEB, has not announced the dates of PUBDET 2025 yet. However, it is likely that the exam will be coducted in the first week of July 2025. For 2024, this state-level entrance exam was conducted on July 7. Applications for the same were open from February 15, 2024 to March 18, 2024. 

Q:   What are the rules related to PUBDET image upload?

A:

Upload scanned copy of photograph and signature as per the instructions provided in the Information Bulletin. If any candidate receives any SMS/email regarding discrepancy in photograph/ signature, he/she must take corrective action immediately within one day. Admit cards are not issued if these images are illegible and thus not acceptable.

Who can apply for PUBDET 2024 Entrance Test?

To apply for the PUBDET 2024 exam, candidates need to have qualified in the Higher Secondary Examination (not before 2023) or appeared (in 2024) held by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or any equivalent exam.

What are the eligibility criteria for getting admission in the Presidency University?

To get admission in UG level courses in Presidency University, candidates should have qualified higher secondary exam held by CBSE, West Bengal or equivalent exam before the set date by the exam authority. Apart from this, candidates must have passed class 12th with at least five recognized subjects, including English language.

How many subjects are available in Presidency University?

There are a number of courses available in Presidency University for the academic session 2024-25. The university mainly provides admission to candidates in Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BSc) courses.

Q:   What are the special facilities provided to PWD candidates for appearing in the PUBDET examination?

A:
  • Concessional application fees: PWD candidates are eligible for 40% concession on application fees. To avail the same, the candidate must formally apply in writing (enclosing a copy of his/her confirmation page and PWD certificate) to the Chairman, WBJEEB and send/submit the application to the Board office within the last date of online application.
  • Compensatory time: Twenty minutes per hour compensatory time as per duration of examination (On pro-rata basis) will be allowed to the PWD candidates with benchmark disabilities.
  • Scribe/reader: Facility of own Scribe/Reader will be allowed to a candidate with benchmark disability and has limitation in writing including that of speed if so desired by him/her. In order to avail the facility of compensatory time and/or scribe/reader, the candidate must formally apply in writing to the Chairman, WBJEEB and send/submit the application to the Board office within the last date of online application. Special arrangement will be made in the office of the Board in Kolkata for such candidates to sit for the examination. Such facilities are not available in other examination centers.

Q:   What documents are required at the exam centre?

A:

The candidate has to carry their admit card, passport size photograph and any government authorised ID such as Aadhar Card/Driving License/Voter's ID. The allocation of the PUBDET exam centres was based on the choices gave by the candidate during the online form fill up. However, the centre mentioned was final and no changes were made. No request for change of allocated centre was entertained under normal circumstances.

Q:   When is the verification of PUBDET documents done?

A:

The verifications of documents of PUBDET 2024 exams are done during by the allotted institute during counselling/admission. Hence candidates cannot assume that the personal information shown in the confirmation page, admit card, rank card etc., are accepted or approved by the Board. Candidates can get more information related to PUBDET admission and documents at the official website of the exam and on Shiksha page.

Q:   What is the reservation policy for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PWD categories in PUBDET exam?

A:

The reservation policies of West Bengal State Higher Education Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2013 and West Bengal State Higher Education Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2014 will be followed for admission in reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PWD along with any extent orders as applicable at the time of admission.
However, availability of such reserve category seats shall be restricted to students domiciled in West Bengal only.
Candidates claiming such seats must submit relevant Certificate issued by the competent Authorities as given in respective sections.
The certificate is to be produced during counselling, admission etc. If the certificate is then found to be invalid, the candidate will lose the opportunity of admission in reserve category and will be treated as General category.

Maximum how many papers I can apply for in PUBDET exam?

Candidates can apply for maximum three papers out of total ten papers. However, candidates cannot select three papers for which the exam are to be held on the same day and same time.

What will be the pattern of question papers for PUBDET 2024 examination?

In each paper of PUBDET exam, candidates will be asked Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) type, along with four answer options. There will be as many as 50 questions in each paper with 100 and the duration of the exam will be 90 minutes.

What is the Application Fee for PUBDET-2024 exam?

PUBDET 2024 application fee is INR 500 for one paper and INR 250 for every additional paper as well as the Bank’s Service Charges, if any. Notably, candidates can pay the PUBDET 2024 exam fees by Net Banking/ Debit Card/ Credit Card/UPI/QR Code only.

What is the Scoring methodology for PUBDET-2024 examination?

According to the official website of the exam:

a) All the questions in the PUBDET will have four answer options.

b) Only one answer is correct.

c) Correct response will have 2 marks.

d) Incorrect response will have -1/2 (25% negative) marks.

f) No response will be of zero mark.

What will be the Ranking Methodology for PUBDET 2024?

The exam conducting body, WBJEEB will prepare merit ranks on the basis of candidates’ score in the Common Entrance Test. Candidates will be able to check and download the Rank Card, which will have score and rank.

Can I make any correction after submission of PUBDET application form?

Yes, candidates were allowed to make correction in the PUBDET 2024 application form during the “Correction Window”.  However, candidates are not supposed to make correction in the primary information such as Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Gender, Domicile and Date of Birth.

My application number was not sent to my mobile number; what should I do?

Candidate must have a valid mobile number and he/she must have the mobile in hand during form fill up. Also, the network connection should be good, so that the SMS is not missed. Further you should contact the Help Desk.

What do I do if I forget my password?

During the registration process or any other work on the official website, candidates are suggested use “Forgot Password” link.

What do I do if I forget my application number?

In case candidate forget their application number, they can use “Forgot Application No.” link available on the official website of the exam.

What is Tie-breaking Methodology for same score of candidates?

Candidates interested to appear in the PUBDET 2024 exam need to refer the space below to know about the tie–breaking methodology of PUBDET exam:

  1. a) In case of tie, the candidate securing less negative score will have higher rank and will obtain higher position in merit list.
  1. b) If the tie still exists then, such candidates will be given the same rank and will be considered for counselling and admission.

What are the Rules of PUBDET 2024 examinations?

Rules of the examination of PUBDET-2024 is referred in APPENDIX-4 of the Information Bulletin.

What should be the measurement of photograph and signature to be uploaded in the PUBDET application form?

Candidates can check the space below to know about the size and specification of photograph. The size of the image should be between 10 to 200 KB while the size of signature should be between 4 to 30 KB.

Can I change my choice of examination zone?

No. Once candidates are allotted the examination centre they will not be allowed to modify the choice of examination zone.

I have passed class 12th in 2018, am I eligible?

No. Candidates who have qualified class 12th before 2023 are not eligible to appear in the PUBDET exam.

What is the procedure of allocation of Examination Centre?

What is the required date of issue of Domicile Certificate for PUBDET exam?

Only those candidates will be considered as domicile of West Bengal who are either,

a) living in West Bengal continuously for at least 10 years as on

31.12.2023.

 or

b) Candidates whose parent(s) is/are permanent resident(s) of West Bengal having permanent address within the State of West Bengal.

Yes, there is seat reservation for SC/ ST/ OBC-A/ OBC-B/ PwD candidates in PUBDET exam.

Can one use a scribe in case of specified Disabilities in PUBDET exam?

Yes. One can use a scribe as per the guidelines specify mentioned at the official website of the exam.

What is the required date of issue of Caste Certificate in PUBDET?

In the PUBDET exam, there is no restriction on date of issue of caste certificates.

What is the percentage of disability for being eligible in PwD Category?

40% of a specified disability and above. See section 10.0 of the Information Bulletin.

What facilities PwD Candidates can get?

A Candidate can get Concessional application fees, Compensatory time and Scribe/reader facility.

What is “Admin approval required” after re-uploading of photograph and signature in PUBDET exam?

Once the re-uploading of changed photo/signature, the revised image is then approved by the Board, which requires about 3 days of time. If a candidate log-in during these 3 days, he will see an alert message as “Admin approval required”.

What happens if I do not re-upload correct photograph or signature?

It is the mandatory process as if a candidate does not re-upload corrected image or signature, admit card cannot be issued.

Is there any date limit for taking photograph for PUBDET exam?

No, there is no date limit, but it must be recently taken so that it matches with the candidate’s physical features.

Is the application fee refundable if I do not sit for the examination?

No. The application fee once paid in not refundable under any circumstances by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board

What do I do if the Confirmation Page is not generated even if the fee is deducted from my bank account?

Confirmation Page is automatically generated when the payment is received at Board’s end. If it is not generated, it can be due to payment failure/break before it is received by the Board. In such case, the candidate should make payment again.

What do I do if I forget to download the transaction receipt?

Candidates’ transaction receipt is generated by the EPG. It is not required by the Board. But if there is a payment failure/break at the end of EPG, the candidate may need it to recover his money from the EPG.

How many examination zones are there for PUBDET-2024 Entrance Test?

There are as many as 16 examination zones for PUBDET 2024 exam.

What are the items I must carry on the examination day?

Candidates can carry the following documents to enter the examination Centre.

a. A hard copy of admit card of PUBDET-2024.

b. A copy of colour photograph as was uploaded during online application.

c. Any photo identity card in original such as Aadhaar card/ PAN card/ Passport/ Voter

card/ 10th standard admit card/ School-ID card as uploaded during Application.

When and How my academic and other documents will be verified?

All academic and other documents will be verified by the Presidency University during counselling/ admission of PUBDET exam.

No, the PUBDET result is not published in the form of a merit list. The exam body announces the result in the form of Rank Cards for each examinee separately. They must log on to the official website to download their rank cards. These rank cards must also be produced during the counselling session.

The application fee for PUBDET is INR 500 (excluding bank charges for internet services). Applicants must pay this fee while filling the application form. It can be paid using Net Banking/ Debit Card/ Credit Card or by cash using Allahabad Bank e-challan.
