Candidates could follow the steps below to fill the application form of CLAT without making any errors:
Step 1 - CLAT Registration
- Visit the official website of CLAT Consortium - https://consortiumofnlus.ac.in/ and a message will appear on the homepage (see in the image below) and candidates had to click on ‘CLICK HERE’ to visit the application window
- On the left side of the application window, a login form was given and candidates registering for the first time had to click on ‘Don’t have an account? Register’ button
- The online registration form of CLAT 2026 poped-up on the screen and candidates had to provide following details to register:
Name – As mentioned on the academic documents (class 10th certificate or name change certificate if any)
Q: Is CLAT 2026 registration form out?
No, the CLAT 2026 Application Form is not out yet. The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) is expected to begin the CLAT 2026 Registration Process in July and candidates can apply on or before the last date. CLAT 2026 Exam Date has not been announced yet. However, it is expected to be held on December 7, 2025. Candidates must note that CLAT 2026Application Form can be filled online only. Only those candidates who will fill CLAT Application Form 2026 successfully, will be issued CLAT admit card and will be allowed to appear in the CLAT Exam.

Mobile Number – Candidates had to enter a valid mobile phone number either their own or parents'/ guardian’s
Password – Candidates had to create a secure and strong password that has at least one numerical, one number, one symbol, an uppercase and a lower case alphabet and it should be at least 8 characters long
After this, candidates had to click on the ‘Register’ button and an OTP was sent on the registered mobile number. Candidates have to use this OTP to activate CLAT login account as under:

Candidates hadto enter the OTP received on their mobile number to access the CLAT application form.

Step 3 - Filling up the application form
Candidates can then use their CLAT login to fill up the application form as under:
Upload photograph and signature – Candidates also had to upload their photograph and signature after they register for CLAT 2026. The photograph had to be front-facing and clear image. Signature had to be a scanned copy, and file format should be jpg/ jpeg only.

Q: How much is CLAT 2026 application fee?
The application fee for CLAT exam was different as per the category of a candidate. For General/OBC/PWD/PIO/OCI/NRI, the application fee was INR 4,000 and for SC/ST/BPL category, the application fee was INR 3,500. Extra charges of INR 500 were applicable if candidates wanted to obtain previous years' CLAT question papers from the exam authority. Apart from CLAT application fee and cost of question paper bundle, candidates had to pay any other charges.

The application form was same for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Candidates could select your programme of study at the time of filling the application form. And Postgraduate for 1-year LL. M. course that candidates can opt for. CLAT application form was made available only for 5-year LL.B. And LL. M. course and the application fee was same for both course levels.

- Enter the registered mobile number and click on ‘Request OTP’
- Enter the One Time Password (OTP) received on mobile

Once you retrieve your password, login and your registration ID was reflected on your screen.
Q: What all documents required to apply for CLAT?
Candidates can check the list of documents required to apply for CLAT 2026 below:
- A scanned copy of front facing passport size recent photograph with a plain background
- Scanned signature of the candidate
- Category certificate for SC/ST/OBC or PwD candidates
- BPL certificate (if applicable)
Fill up the form – Candidates had to fill the following details in the application form:
- Enter Applicant Name – as per the class 10+2 certificate
- Select gender
- Select Date of Birth in MM/DD/YY format
- Enter the father’s name
- Enter the mother’s name
- Select nationality
- Select All India Category – General/ OBC/ SC/ ST (If you select the category other than general then, a new field will open up for uploading a supporting document as issued by the competent authority. The document should be in pdf file format and the size should be less than 1.5 MB)
- Select if belonging to PWD or BPL (Below Poverty Line) category – If yes, then respective documents need to upload in pdf file format and size not more than 1.5 MB)
After this, candidates had to proceed on the next step as under:
Communication details – Candidates had to enter the communication address related information as under:
- Correspondence address – present residential address
- Select state/ UT, District
- Enter PIN code of your corresponding address
- Enter Permanent Address – fill the same details as correspondence if the address is same.
- Enter mobile number and email ID
Qualifying examination details – In this form, the candidates had to provide the following details related to their academics:
- Qualifying examination
- Board/ University
- Status of qualifying examination – whether already appeared, appearing or passed
- Select month of passing the examination
- Select year of passing
- Enter the qualifying marks in percentage
Test Centre Preference – Candidates had to select at least three cities from the list of CLAT 2026 test centres in order of preference.
College Preferences – In this step, candidates had to mark the National Law Universities (NLUs) in order of preference. All the 24 NLUs will be listed on this page.
Reservation – Candidates in this step were able to select the reservation quota available in each NLU. Fill in the required details if seeking admission under the reserved category.
Step 4 - Fee payment
After filling up the application form, candidates had to pay the CLAT application fee as under:
