After the successful release of the new guidelines for National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET), another bit of information has been released, building up tension among those students who do not possess an Adhaar Card till date. The NEET conducting authorities have now made it mandatory to present the Unique Identification Number mentioned on the Adhaar Card in order to register for the examination.
NEET is a mandatory examination to appear for all the aspirants who wish to seek admissions to any MBBS and BDS courses in India. NEET scores are accepted by various registered medical or dental colleges, running under the aegis of the Medical Council of India (MCI) or Dental Council of India (DCI), respectively.

“It is an interesting way to go about it. Since JEE main had also started using Aadhaar cards, I think it was important for NEET to also use it. The good thing about Aadhaar is that it’s just one document that gives us the entire information of the applicant. Although there aren’t many students who do not have Aadhaar, the college management has decided to give a day’s leave to the students who do not have Aadhaar,” said Shivaprasad Bodepudi, principal, Sri Chaitanya PU College.
With the upcoming state elections in Karnataka, the NEET conducting authorities will implement the new rule and the aspirants will have to mention their unique identification number in the relevant field enlisted in the application form, failing which the candidate will not be allowed to appear for the examination. According to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the use of Aadhaar for the students appearing for NEET-2017 will be the proof of their identity and accuracy of the details mentioned in the field. Also, this will cap the number of documents which were to be enclosed while filling the applications as the Adhar Card is a more convenient way to collect information form a single source.
“There are a lot of students who do not provide proper addresses, hence Aadhaar is a good mandate for NEET. The move is for the welfare of the applicants as well as the education board,” said T Balakrishna, chairman and managing director, Venkat International Public School & Group of Institutions. “We have made arrangements so that the government authorities can come and help students who don’t have Aadhaar cards. We are also flexible to grant leave to students if they are in the process of enrolling for Aadhaar.” Chaitanya further added.
The candidates who do not possess Adhar Card for now, are requested to register themselves to obtain the same, enabling them to appear for the NEET-2017 and various other examinations conducted by CBSE, that includes Adhar Card as a mandatory document enclosure. In order to make things easier for the students, CBSE has also set up centres at every city where the examination is scheduled to be held. This is to provide assistance to the students while getting themselves registered for the Adhaar Card. In case there is any difficulty in obtaining the hard copy of Adhaar card, the student can still register using the Unique Identification Number which will be available online.
Also if the Aadhaar Card enrolment facility is not available at the facilitation centres, the applicants can still submit a request for Aadhaar Card enrolment. The facilitation centre will then issue a registration number to such applicants which can be used at the time of filling the NEET-2017 application forms.
The requirement of Adhar card was first declared as a mandatory document for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) by CBSE, which was then followed by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) . JCECE recently joined the the same league, confirming the implementation of the same process.
