Internship Cut off and Counselling
After several requests, NBE extended the deadline to complete NEET PG 2023 internship from March 31 to June 30. But it is not solving the purpose for them. The reason being they hardly get time to devote for exam preparation as they are on internship duty for more than 12 hours. Moreover when counselling process will be started only in July after the internship why there is hurry to conduct the exam 2-3 months before, students fume. Their logic also gets support from Dr Rohan Krishnan, National Chairman of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA).
“NEET PG exam should be postponed till May as counselling cannot start before July. Requesting @MoHFW_INDIA to look into this seriously and @NMC_IND should become more students friendly. Also, the NEET MDS extension for the internship cut-off date should be done similarly to NEET PG”, he tweeted recently.

NEET PG 2023 internship cut-off date extends to June 30: FAIMA National Chairman
No time for preparation
The internship requires doctors to be on their toes. They have a hectic schedule of managing wards and other responsibilities. Medicos have to work for at least 12 hours most of the days during their internship. This leaves a very little scope to manage time for preparation.
Lesser manpower and delayed patient care
As per the report, the extended deadline will also not be enough for around 10,000 doctors from Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand who will be completing their one-year mandatory internship after due date. They will not be able to write the exam which will lead many PG seats to go vacant in many colleges. As very few residents doctors would be joining from fresh batches, this will affect whole patient care.
Double whammy for candidates
Recently MCC announced the NEET PG 2022 counselling result for special Stray Vacancy Round. Candidates participating in the special stray vacancy round have to give in writing that after seat allotment, they will be taking admission. If they fail to do so, they will not be allowed to write for NEET PG 2023 exam. This means candidates who don’t get seat of their choice won’t be able to appear for NEET PG 2023 exam. Such candidates will have closed door at both places, I.e they neither will be getting seat of their choice in NEET PG 2022 counselling nor be able to appear for next year exam.
