NEET MDS exam pattern 2025 will be released by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) along with the information brochure, tentatively in the first week of December 2024. The NEET MDS exam will be conducted on January 31, 2025. The NEET MDS 2025 application process will be tentatively conducted from the first to the fourth week of December 2024

Knowledge of the NEET MDS exam pattern 2025 is essential in the preparatory phase. The exam pattern of NEET MDS 2025 will help candidates to make proper strategies to score well in the exam. According to the exam pattern of NEET MDS 2025, the exam will be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) mode for three hours duration, from 9 AM to 12 noon. The total number of questions is 240. The question types are multiple choice objective types, carrying four answer options. 

NBEMS has announced a change in the NEET MDS exam pattern and structure. Next year onwards, there will be a time-bound sectional demarcation of questions for NEET MDS.

Q:   What is the NEET MDS exam pattern?

A: 

NEET MDS is a computer-based exam of three hours duration. The timing of the exam is 9 AM to 12 noon. There are a total of 240 objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs) from the NEET MDS syllabus. Each question has four marks and there will be negative marking of one mark for each wrong answer. The following table brings the overview and structure of the NEET MDS exam pattern.

Q:   What is the mode of the NEET MDS exam?

A: 

The NEET MDS exam is conducted is online mode, or a computer-based mode. Candidates will have to take the test on the computer at the designated exam centre. The questions will appear on screen and test-takers will have to mark the correct answer option with the help of mouse and click on the Submit tab. Unless they Submit the answers, it won't be considered for marking. During the exam, candidates are given an option to mark any question, whether attempted or not, for review which means that candidate has been given an option to go through these questions again before the examination time ends.

Q:   In which languages is NEET MDS exam is conducted?

A: 

NEET MDS is conducted in only one language, which is English. This exam, conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is held in a single language and window, in a computer-based test (CBT) mode.  Since BDS course is offered in English, it would not pose challenge to candidates in terms of attempting the NEET MDS exam in English. The exam will be conducted for a duration of three hours, from 9 AM to 12 noon in exam centres located in India. The syllabus and pattern and expected to remain the same as last year.

Q:   What is the marking scheme of the NEET MDS exam?

A: 

The NEET MDS exam marking scheme has been defined by NBE, the exam conducting authority. Each correct answer will fetch candidates four marks, one the other hand, there will be 25 per cent negative marking scheme. Since the total number of the NEET MDS questions is 240, the total marks in the exam is 960. The following table brings the details of the NEET MDS marking scheme.

Q:   What is the total number of questions in NEET MDS exam?

A: 

The NEET MDS exam consists of 240 objective type multiple choice questions (MCQs). Each question carries four answer options, out of which candidates have to select the correct answer option and mark it. Divided into two parts, the Part A of the question paper will have 100 questions and Part B of the paper will have 140 questions.

Q:   Will there be negative marking in NEET MDS?

A: 

Yes, the pattern of NEET MDS clearly states that penalty marks will be deducted for incorrect answers. Each correct answer will fetch four marks and for each wrong answer, there will be negative marking of one mark. Hence, the negative marking applied in the NEET MDS exam is 25 per cent. No marks will be awarded or deducted for unattempted questions.

NEET MDS Exam Pattern 2025 in Detail

In this section, we bring the detailed NEET MDS 2025 exam pattern. 

Mode of the Examination: According to the exam pattern of NEET MDS, the examination will be conducted online or in a computer-based mode. The candidate needs basic knowledge of computers to appear for the test. 

Medium of the Examination: English is the only language option for candidates wishing to appear for NEET MDS.

Duration of the Examination: NEET MDS will be held from 9 am to 12 noon, giving candidates three hours to attempt the examination.

Number and type of questions: The total number of questions in the NEET MDS examination will be 240. All these questions will be objective type, that is, for every question, a candidate will have four response options. He/she must only choose the correct answer from these four options.

Q:   What is the total number of subjects in the NEET MDS exam?

A: 

There are a total of 17 subjects or topics from which questions are asked in the NEET MDS exam. Each of the subject carries 14 to 15 questions. While all subjects carry 14 questions, there are two subjects, General Medicine and General Surgery, which carry 15 questions each. Candidates will not be provided any choice in terms of attempting the subjects or sections. Moreover, there is no time limit to attempt the subjects. Hence, candidates will have to divide the time accordingly in order to solve as many questions as possible within the three hours total duration.

Q:   Does NBE conduct NEET MDS exam twice a year?

A: 

No. NEET MDS is conducted only once a year. The exam is generally conducted in the first week of March. National Board of Examinations (NBE) conducts the exam for admission in postgraduate dental courses in medical institutes. NEET MDS application form is released online and candidates have to submit it there only. No offline and any other mode of application is accepted. According to existing NEET MDS pattern, the exam is conducted in English language only. A total of 240 question is asked and candidates get 3 hours to answer them.

Q:   Who sets the NEET MDS syllabus?

A: 

The NEET MDS syllabus is set by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The contents of the NEET MDS syllabus is similar to the BDS course. Explaining the same, NBE has stated, "The syllabus for the exam shall be that of BDS standard and shall cover all the subjects/syllabus taught during the BDS course as prescribed in the DCI Revised BDS Course Regulations, 2007 as amended from time to time."

Q:   What does mark for review mean in NEET MDS exam?

A: 

Being a computer-based exam, candidates are given the option to mark one or more answer options for review. According to NBE, candidates are given an option to mark any question, whether attempted or not, for review which means that candidate has been given an option to go through these questions again before the examination time ends. However, candidates must submit the answer as without that, the question will be considered unattempted.
