The University of Mumbai invites applications for its PG programmes by the end of June or beginning of July every year and the application process continues until the last week of July. Mumbai University MSc admission 2021 is conducted via two ways – through an entrance exam and merit in the last qualifying exam. Candidates seeking enrolment are required to submit the pre-enrollment form along with the application form to get admission. Selected candidates, with their names in the merit lists released by the University, are required to appear for a document verification process to confirm their seat.

Mumbai University MSc Admission 2021

In the field of Science, University of Mumbai offers MSc programme of two years’ duration at the postgraduate level. This course is offered by the University in 26 specialisations.

  • Of all the specialisations, final selection for MSc in Herbal Science is based on marks obtained in the entrance exam conducted by the affiliated college (if applicable) as per the guidelines of the University of Mumbai
  • For all the remaining MSc specialisations, admission is based on merit in the qualifying exam of BSc degree

Tabulated below is the minimum eligibility criteria required for all MSc specialisations:

Bioanalytical Sciences

A pass in BSc in any one of the following subjects: Chemistry (with Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Biochemistry and Biotechnology till SY BSc) Botany, Zoology Microbiology, Life Science, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Chemistry as one of the subject till SY BSc or equivalent.

Herbal Science

A pass in BSc in any subject of Biological Science/ Biochemistry/ Chemistry with any one subject of Biological Sciences up to SY level from any recognised university with 50% aggregate

 

Bioanalytical Instrumentation

A pass in BSc in any one of the following subjects: Chemistry (with Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Biochemistry and Biotechnology and have Chemistry as a subject till SY BSc

Bioinformatics

A bachelor’s degree in any of the following field:

Science (Biochemistry, Biology, Botany, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Life Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Microbiology, Statistics or Zoology) / Agriculture/ Medicine/ Pharmacy / Veterinary Science /Computer Science

Nano-Science and Nano Technology

A BSc degree in Physics, Chemistry, Life Science, Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Geology with second class from a recognised university, IIT or NIT

Environmental Sciences

A minimum of 45% aggregate in BSc with Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Life Science, Biochemistry, Geology, Geography, Nautical Science, Agricultural Science

OR

BSc degree with any other subject with Biological Science

OR

a BE degree from a recognised university

Nutraceuticals

- A pass in BSc with a minimum of 50% aggregate (45% for reserved categories) with Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Life Science, Biotechnology, Biochemistry

- Those with a degree in Medical Sciences or graduation in Food and Nutrition Science or Pharmacy are also eligible

- Textile and Fashion Technology

- Community Resource Management (Management And Ergonomics)

A pass in BSc from a recognised university with subjects relevant to the sub-specialisation opted under Home Science

Home Science in Food Processing and Preservation

A pass in BSc with Home Science (any branch)/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry/ Life Sciences/ Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Combinations/ BSc with Agriculture

Home Science in Sports Nutrition

A pass in BSc with Home Science (any branch)/ Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Nursing/Physiotherapy/ Medical graduates any discipline

*MSc programme is further available in the 14 specialisations. Candidates with a BSc degree with at least 50% aggregates can apply for this course.

Eligibility criteria for MSc: In order to get admission in any of these, candidates are required to pass Class 12 with a minimum aggregate of 50% (40% for reserved category candidates) along with a BSc degree from a recognised university.

Mumbai University MSc Application Process 2021

Mumbai University MSc application form 2021 is out in the last week of June on the official website (mu.ac.in). Candidates seeking admission must fill the application form followed by a pre-enrollment form online. For access to the login window of Mumbai University application form 2021, candidates are required to register first (on the official website).

  • Admission to all the courses offered by MU is based solely on the marks scored by candidates in the qualifying examination
  • Candidates seeking admission to various affiliated colleges under MU might also require to also apply to the affiliated college, individually

After filling the online application form and paying the application fee (which varies with every specialisation), candidates must wait for the Mumbai University first merit list 2021.

  • The University releases three to four merit lists based on the different categories of the candidates and programmes
  • Candidates who manage to clear the merit lists must report to the college for document verification and counselling procedure
  • Mumbai University merit list 2021 is based on the marks scored by candidates in the entrance test/ last qualifying exam.

Once the document verification process is completed, candidates can submit the admission fee and claim their seat.

List of documents required during admission

  • Original mark sheet of BSc and one attested copy (if not available, a provisional one duly signed by the Principal)
  • Caste certificate/Caste validity certificate (Original and one attested copy) - for reserved category students
  • Non-creamy layer certificate for the current year (Original and one attested copy) –for students belonging to OBC, VJNT and SBC category
  • Affidavit or gap certificate - in case of a gap in studies after BSc
