BTech admissions for the academic year 2024-25 are open. Candidates can apply through the official website of the university.

Punjab Technical University (PTU) has been renamed as I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU). The university offers BTech (four-year) in 29 specialisations at the main campus. BTech is also offered at IKGPTU constituent campuses. Admission is through JEE Main, followed by PTU Counselling. However, at some campuses, admission is done on the basis of merit in Class 12 as well. I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University also offers BTech (Lateral) courses. The admission process for these courses is carried out as per the norms laid by the Punjab government/or the university.

PTU BTech Admission 2023: Fee, Seats, Eligibility & Selection Criteria

The fee to be charged, eligibility and admission procedure is carried out as per the regulations of the regulatory bodies, including COA/UGC/AICTE/IKGPTU/Govt. of Punjab. Additionally, the seat reservation is as per the guidelines of the Government of Punjab Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training. Class 12 pass with at least 45% aggregate (40% for reserved category) from a recognised board. Candidate shall have passed with the relevant subjects (Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Computer Science / Electronics / Information Technology / Biology / Informatics Practices / Biotechnology / Technical Vocational subject / Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics / Business Studies / Entrepreneurship). OR, students with a three-year diploma with 45% aggregate (40% for reserved category) from Punjab State Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training, SLIET, or any such exam are also eligible. OR, Candidates who have passed two-years certificate course from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal (SLIET) are also eligible. PTU BTech (Lateral) Admission 2023

The BTech Lateral course is of a three-year duration divided into six semesters. The eligibility criteria that aspirants must fulfil for admission are as follows:

Eligibility Criteria: A minimum three or two-year (lateral entry) diploma exam from an AICTE-approved university with at least 45% aggregate (40% for reserved categories) in any branch of engineering and technology. Or, candidates with a BSc degree from a recognised university with at least 45% aggregate (40% for reserved categories) and who have studied Mathematics in Class 12 are also eligible. Or, students who have passed D.Voc stream in the same or allied sector.

PTU BTech Application Process 2023

Candidates seeking admission to a BTech course at PTU Jalandhar need to fill out an online/offline application form. Students can pay the application fee by Credit Card/Debit Card/Net banking/E-Challan. In the case of E-Challan, the application fee can be paid in any branch of the Indian Bank. The step-by-step process for form filling and submission is as follows:

Step 1: Visit the PTU official website (ptu.ac.in).

Step 2: Register by entering some basic details, such as name, valid email ID, phone number, etc.

Step 3: Login with the Username and Password.

Step 4: Fill out the application form.

Step 5: Submit the form after the payment of the registration fee, i.e. INR 1,000.

Placements: The placement percentage of our course is about 80%. The highest salary package offered is 40 LPA and the lowest salary package offered ranges from 3-4 LPA for software engineer roles in on-campus placements. More than 100 companies visit the college to hire students for more than 20 roles. The average salary package offered is 8 LPA.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good although it could be a bit better. The campus area is small and not too large. Overall, the experience is good in labs. Buildings interior and grounds are good. The hostel's interior is good and spacious. In rooms, the furniture is good, but the mess food should be better than it is now.

Faculty: Teachers' knowledge is good. The course curriculum is provided by the university and the academic calendar is provided beforehand. It is followed strictly. The number of working days, the number of lectures, and the number of holidays are all followed according to the academic calendar. Semester exams are regularly with 2-mid semester exams and one final exam as they are held at regular intervals across all semesters.

Absolutely justified because of faculty members and good placements in 2015.

Placements: College have good placements and they give us added percentage. The highest salary package offered is 45 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 11 LPA in decorating companies. They give us the highest package and lower package qualifications regarding.

Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure of our college are very good. Our college has different types of libraries and different labs. Library has a good Wi-Fi system. Hostel facility is available. Canteen is also good and their chole bhature is very famous and aloo tikkis also famous with it paneer tikka roll.

Faculty: Our teachers are very helpful. They are good and qualified. They are Ph.D. holder from different universities. Kasam teachers qualified only B.Sc. But they have good knowledge and are friendly. Exams are very difficult. They know a chance for cheating only and do it without mind.

Other: I will share after my graduation from this college. Best thing about our course is that I will do B. Tech cyber security. Our lab has HD classes and workshops are also there to teach us.

Do not take admission here; please have other options.

Placements: Not much placement opportunity in the college. No top MNC is reaching college for placements these days. The role offered is SDE1, or intern. The package is between 3 and 7 LPA. Internships are not offered by colleges; students have to find them themselves.

Infrastructure: Hostel quality is actually not that good. You will get a good hostel when you are in your first year, but after that, the quality of the hostel starts getting worse, and the food is the worst in the hostel. Also, there are not great events for hostels. The hostel seen by the girls is the worst.

Faculty: The faculty of the college is average, but some professors are really good and highly qualified and have research papers published, while others are not highly skilled, and most of them are contact-based. As the college is autonomous, the exams are prepared and checked in the college itself.

Best growing college in Punjab.

Placements: Most of the students who sit in placement drives got placed. The lowest salary package offered is around 4.5 LPA. The highest salary package offered in the ECE course is about 30 LPA. They also have an IEEE student chapter as well.

Infrastructure: The campus is very clean and green. The college is working on its infrastructure very well. Wi-Fi is good or above average. Labs are good and well-equipped. The library has all books regarding the syllabus of all courses and many other books.

Faculty: All teachers are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. The curriculum is relevant. There is a DCPD department which helps students in placements and gives them classes to make them industry-ready. The semester exams are easy if classes are attended properly. All faculty members are cooperative and helpful. They are doctorates.

Satisfied with good faculty, placements in 2024, infrastructure, facilities, etc.

Placements: All students of the batch get placements in good companies like Capgemini, Adobe, etc. The salary package offered to all students is very good. The highest salary package offered is 43 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 4.5 LPA. Students of my batch along with me got internships at IIT Ropar, iHub-AWaDH.

Infrastructure: The college has good infrastructure and facilities across its campus. Students and faculty members are provided with high-speed internet. Wi-Fi is there in labs, classrooms, and hostels. The campus also has labs for practical tasks. The college has a canteen and other food services. There are 24/7 medical facilities.

Faculty: All teachers and professors in our department are doctorates. They have their PhDs. Teachers use different interactive methods to teach students about the course or topics. The curriculum is based on the latest technologies and is up to date. It is easy to pass exams if you are attentive in class. Around 40% is the minimum criteria to pass.

Other: I chose a bachelor of technology (B.Tech) in electronics and communication engineering because its the basis of software and other technologies. It complements the CS field.

College is good as they give a good placement ratio in 2024.

Placements: The college is overall good, but the placement is not that great. However, in our branch, which is Civil Engineering, our seniors have achieved 100% placements. In CS Engineering, the placement is not as good, and the college is far from the city.

Infrastructure: The college doesn’t have full access to Wi-Fi; in fact, in the hostel, there are only two floors with Wi-Fi, and the speed is below average. The network is also not good in our hostel. You have to struggle to get a good network around the hostel area. Our library has good infrastructure, but they don’t have any useful books.

Faculty: The teachers are not very helpful, but they are qualified from good IITs, and many have cleared GATE as well. However, they are not interested in teaching students and don’t make students industry-ready. The semester exams are very easy; if you study the night before, you are going to clear the exams.

Other: I am from the Civil Engineering batch of 2025. I chose this college just because it is a government institution and has good infrastructure. But the reality of this college is not good; they don’t provide a good college life.

Q. Which BTech specialisations are offered at IKGPTU?

A. BTech (four-year) is offered in nearly 29 specialisations at the main campus and also through affiliated colleges. Some of the popular specialisations that the university offers are Aeronautical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Textile Engineering, Food Engineering, etc. Admission to all the specialisations is entrance-based.

Q. How good is PTU for BTech?

A. The university has earned a great reputation over the year by providing support to the students. PTU facilitates placement support to students to ensure they grab good career opportunities. Many industry giants such as IBM, Infosys, Amazon, TCS, LG, Walmart, Wipro, Reliance Jio Infocomm and so on participate in the placements drive conducted by the university. As per the NIRF report 2022, a median package of INR 4.50 LPA was offered to UG (4-year) students.

Q. How can I get admission to PTU for BTech?

A. For admission to a BTech course, students’ Class 12 marks along with their JEE Main scores and ranks are taken into consideration. It is also crucial that the aspirant fulfils the minimum eligibility criteria. Further, eligible students with a valid JEE Main score can fill out the application form online (ptu.ac.in). A merit list is released after the conclusion of the application process followed by which selected students are called for counselling. During counselling, seat allotment as per the merit list and reservation policy is carried out.

Q. Does PTU offer direct admission to BTech courses?

A. Yes. Direct admissions are open in case of any vacant seats after counselling. These seats are allotted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Thus, direct admission opens for a few BTech programmes. Candidates seeking direct admission need to visit the main campus. Moreover, a registration fee of INR 1,000 (non-refundable) has to be submitted. If the student gets admission, then it is adjusted in the first semester.

Q. When does PTU BTech Counselling start?

A. Counselling for admission through Class 12 and JEE Main are conducted separately. Counselling for admission on the basis of Class 12 takes place from August to September. Additionally, counselling for students applying with JEE Main scores starts in the month of September and goes on till October. IKGPTU releases the counselling schedule on its official website (ptu.ac.in).
