Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Which entrance do I need to clear to get admission to SASTRA Deemed University for BTech?

A:

At the undergraduate level, this deemed University offers BTech across 30 specialisations along with Integrated MTech across two specialisations. Spread over four years and eight semesters, admission to BTech is possible at SASTRA Deemed University via two methods:

Stream 1: JEE Mains + Class 12 marks (50% weightage given to each), for admission to 50% of the total seats

Stream 2: Class 12 marks (100% weightage), for admission to the remaining 50%

The following qualifications must be met by the students to secure admission to BTech at Sastra:

  • Candidates must have obtained 60% aggregate in their Class 12 with Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science, and Biology from a recognised board.
  • Taken JEE Main exam

Q:   I got 79 percentile in JEE Mains and 66% in Class 12. Will I get admission to Sastra University, Thanjavur?

A:

Based on the information you've provided, your JEE Mains percentile of 79 is decent and could be a competitive score for admission to Sastra University, Thanjavur. However, your class 12 percentage of 66% might be slightly below the usual cutoff for some courses at the university. To increase your chances of admission, I recommend checking Sastra University's official website or contacting their admission department for the specific cutoff scores and eligibility criteria for the course you are interested in.

Sastra University is known for its competitive admission process, and the cutoff marks can vary each year. It's essential to have a clear understanding of the admission requirements and eligibility criteria to make an informed decision.

In case your JEE Mains percentile meets or exceeds the cutoff set by Sastra University for your desired course, you stand a good chance of getting admission. However, if the cutoff is higher, you may consider other options or explore different courses that align with your JEE Mains score and class 12 percentage.

Remember, admissions to universities can be competitive, and it's always a good idea to have backup options. There are many other reputable institutions that offer quality education in engineering and other fields. Research thoroughly, consider all available choices, and apply to multiple universities to increase your chances of getting accepted.

I wish you the best of luck with your admission process, and I hope you find the right university and course that aligns with your academic goals and aspirations!"

Review of SASTRA (Deemed to be University).
Placements: Usually more than 90% of students get placed during the placements. Sastra had collaborated with TCS, so many students irrespective of their branch get placed during the placements. The highest salary package offered to our seniors was 28 LPA. The average salary package offered was 3.5 LPA. Top recruiting companies are TCS, Deloitte, Amazon, Flipkart, and Infosys. There are some abroad internship programs for biotech and ECE branches.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of Sastra University is too good. We can find big building when we enter the university. But the hostel buildings doesn't look good. Some old hostels contain bizarre interiors and washrooms are not good. Hot water facility is not available throughout the campus. Food is not good on the campus. Non-vegetarian food is not available on the campus. We have go outside to eat it. Canteens are present in the college in which food is too good apart from the fact of non availability of non vegetarian food. Medical facilities are good. We have a doctor and medical store on the campus.
Faculty: Faculty members are very good and very friendly. The curriculum we have been following is excellent. The semester exams are tougher. But for an average student, it will be easy to pass the exam. Credits will be awarded to the courses done by the students.
Other: I opted for this course because I got this branch during counseling. I am happy with this course. Events and fests were conducted every year. Due to covid, they didn't conduct events this year.

I am satisfied with our college atmosphere, facilities, infrastructure, exposure and placements.
Placements: About 85% of the students from our batch got placed in reputed organisations. The highest salary package offered was 10 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered was 2 LPA. The average salary package offered was 4.5 LPA. TCS was the top recruiter for our course. About 15% of our batchmates got internships in TCS and other few companies.
Infrastructure: The entire infrastructure of our college was very helpful, and its maintenance was also good. Prices for the food items served in the canteen were affordable, and their quality is also good. Medical facilities were good, and a doctor was available all the time. There were a huge indoor stadium and outdoor space for sports.
Faculty: Faculty members here are very talented and deserving. They are always available to clear our doubts. The course curriculum of SASTRA was different from the course curriculum of other colleges. The course curriculum helped to understand the concepts and their applications instead of just making us mug up the concepts for exams and marks.

Our college provides good placements, proper maintenance and good infrastructure.
Placements: Nearly 70% of the students got placed in different companies. The highest salary package was offered by Amazon, and it was 28.5 LPA, and the lowest package salary package was offered by TCS, and it was 3.6 LPA. The average salary package offered was 8.5 LPA. Top recruiting companies for our course are TCS, Wipro and Infosys. A new course has been introduced, i.e., maths for cybersecurity in order to get placements in TCS. Nearly 15% of the students got internships in Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Viasat, etc.
Infrastructure: In our department, there are labs with good equipment, and the computing labs are air-conditioned. Systems are provided with Wi-Fi facility. Classrooms are spacious and provided with projectors, and every faculty member teaches through google classroom to share the extra knowledge which is necessary for students. Hostels are provided with Wi-Fi facility, and some of the hostel rooms are single sharing room with attached bathroom, double sharing rooms with attached bathroom, 4 sharing rooms with attached bathroom and 5 sharing rooms with attached bathroom. The quality of the food served in the mess is satisfactory, while the quality of the food served in the canteen is excellent compared to the mess. Medical facilities are good and available at any time. Sports and games facilities are good.
Faculty: Teachers here are qualified and share their knowledge with students at any time. They provide additional knowledge skills, i.e., technical and non-technical skills through google classrooms. Their teaching quality is excellent. The course curriculum is relevant, and it makes the students to be better.
Other: I chose this course because the entire world depends on the gadgets in which instruments are keypoint. I also have a lot of interest in it. Most of the students don't know about our course, so we should bring awareness of this course. Our college organises events such as Carpediem, which is a mini-event of Kuruksastra, Utsav, which is a mini-event of Daksh and E-cell Innovatia. It also organises Sankalp, which is an event of the school of electrical and electronics engineering and Sakshama, which is an event of the school of mechanical engineering. Our college organises fests like Daksh, Kuruksastra and sports fest named Colosseum. The campus crowd include 10,000 students. Our campus is 16 km away from Thanjavur and 35 km away from Trichy. Hostel scholarship is provided for students who maintain 100% attendance in the hostel, more than 90% attendance to class and maintain CGPA of more than 8.3. Dean scholarship is also provided for merit students in their respective course. Our college conducts extracurricular activities such as NSS for boys and girls and NCC girls.

one good thing about sastra is placements, yearly 70 to 80 %of students are placed
Placements: 1. About 70% of students placed till in most leading companies. 2. The highest package is 25 Lacs and the lowest package is 3.6, average package offered is 4.5lakhs. 3. Tcs, Wipro, cognizant, paypal, Infosys, IBM etc. are the top recruiters. 6.99% of students get internship, in companies such as BHEL, DRDO, JSW etc.
Infrastructure: All facilities are available such as free Wi-Fi. Classrooms are good but the food is not good. There will be hospital in the campus with free checkup. Many opportunities available for those who are interested in sports and games. There will be central library where thousands of books are placed and very helpful for interested ones.
Faculty: Teachers at sastra are very qualified and Ph.D. holders who constantly work on research fields. The course curriculum is good at planning phase but in case of implementation they don't work. They just try to focus on mid semester instead of important applications.
Other: Instrumentation engineering is best way to go towards hardware side. If you are interested in hardware I better prefer EEE or instrumentation. There will be many events in the campus but every one wait for the three major events that are colosseum, daksh and kuruksastra. Campus is very spacious and there are many opportunities for scholarships such as national scholarship etc.
