On Highlights

Q:   Can I join SRM IST without the entrance?

A:

Yes, SRM University offers direct admission to certain programs for eligible candidates who meet the required eligibility criteria. The admission criteria for these programs may include past academic performance, work experience, and other relevant factors. However, for most of the programs offered by SRM University, admission is through the SRMJEEE (SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination) or other national level entrance exams.

Therefore, it is recommended that you check the specific admission requirements for the programme you are interested in on the university's website or by contacting the admissions office. In case you do not qualify for direct admission or wish to appear for the entrance exam, you can apply for SRMJEEE and appear for the exam. The exam is conducted annually and is the basis for admission to several programs offered by the university.

Q:   Is SRM University good for B.Tech?

A:

Here are some positive and negative points of SRM University:

Positive:

  1. Located in Chennai which is a metropolitan city. Three out of five campuses are located in Chennai
  2. You can have a lot of fun
  3. In KTR, there are a lot of opportunities provided to students to develop their profile like hundreds of clubs, teams like robocon, conrods, camber, and 4ze where students can build their own bots, cars and stuff. If you are really interested in your field then you can do anything in SRM
  4. Canteen facilities are excellent
  5. As far as placements are concerned, most students are placed in IT sector. Core companies also visit the campus but they select only one or two students. In a batch of 500600 students i.e. 1520 students are placed in core companies. But still that depends on your skills and we can’t blame the university for that.

Negative:

  1. The student to faculty ratio is too high.
  2. Faculty members are not very highly skilled, though they are postgraduates in their respective field. Most of them have completed M.Tech from other local colleges. There are very few from IITs and foreign universities.
  3. The curriculum is old.
  4. The evaluation system is also not very good.
  5. Very little research happens here. Most of the faculty members don’t have any publications
  6. Also, if you have a lot of money you can join in management quota into any branch you want. Almost half of the students have joined in management quota.

All the best.

I'm very satisfied by the faculty and placements in 2024.
Placements: The placements in SRM are very good, as the past year students have been placed for like 10 LPA, and 90% of the students are getting placed, and a few of them are receiving higher studies, and most of the companies come here with internships and provide students with high packages while the internship process has been done.
Infrastructure: SRM is really good as the hostels have very good hygiene, and then the food is also great as a card has been developed, and the Wi-Fi is really good, and the labs are also developed with high-tech computers. Then the classroom has also been developed with the help of a smart board.
Faculty: It's really easy for us to study in SRM, as the curriculum is very easy for us to study and complete as well. The teachers are also very knowledgeable, as their knowledge has been given to us. It is very knowledgeable for us, and then it is easy for us to perform an exam.

Review of SRM Institute of Science and Technology.
Placements: I have recently started the course. However, based on reviews and feedback from seniors, I heard the placements are average. Companies offering placements are decent but they are not top companies. Our seniors got placed in good companies. There are internship programs available, where we can apply and get recruited.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is bad, though it is available. Hostel food is not good, and it is uncooked. Desks and tables in our classrooms are very bad and broken, they don't even bother to fix them. Despite paying a lot of money, they don't invest in improving anything but focus more on their benefit.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified but they are rude and strict. Semester exams are good. They treat their native students well, but their behavior towards outsiders is rude. In the initial days, they were good, but over time, they started showing their true colors. Currently, everyone adjusted.

Only join this college if it is your last resort.
Placements: You do have companies visiting the campus for placements but they barely hire 2-3 students from a pool of over 4000 applicants. We had companies like PayPal, Dell, Barclays, jp Morgan, Philips and Siemens that came to recruit interns but they barely hired 5 interns out of which 50% were girls. It’s almost impossible to get past the initial resume screening, most people are rejected even before they write a test. So unless your resume is truly exceptional, getting an internship is close to impossible.
Infrastructure: The only decent thing about SRM is only the main campus (not sure about the other campuses). Classes in the University building are air conditioned but it is the only building with air conditioning as of now. The library is really good. with plenty of places to sit along with a vast variety of books. Only issue is that you might not always find a place to sit that has a plug point, in case you want to use your laptop. The Wi-Fi is available within the university and in the tech park buildings. The WiFi is fairly fast and gets the job done but a lot of sites are blocked. Apart from the Wi-Fi, you also have a Jionet@srm hotspot at multiple places across the campus that grants you 1.5GB of data per day. This is available to anyone who walks into the campus. You need an SRM net id and password that is required to sign into the Wi-Fi. The computer labs and mechanical labs are pretty good as well. The labs in the UB building have an intel i7's and 32gb of RAM. Tech park has an iMac lab that is accessible only to some people pursuing an iOS related course. Facilities for non-computer Science related fields are also pretty good. I have seen CNC machines and a lot of other heavy equipments being used in the mechanical section. We have a fabulous lab that offers 3D printing and other services for a small payment. I haven't personally used this but I have heard its fairly reliable.
Faculty: This is the worse part about being in SRM. There are very few faculty members that actually know what they are talking about. They walk into class with PowerPoints and just start talking. If that was the only issue, it wouldn't be a big deal because you can pretty much keep your head down and scroll through your phones to pass time, but no. These people are out there to make your life as miserable as possible. They'll do everything in their power to make you beg for things like marks and attendance to inflate their very fragile egos. Most faculty members in this college have no notable achievements. There is a reason why they're working in SRM and not IITs. Most of the professors graduated from SRM, got their Ph.D. from SRM and continued teaching in SRM. This leads to a sense of worthlessness within them that they like to compensate by making the lives of students miserable. Doing this gives their otherwise mediocre and pointless life some sort of purpose.
Other: I chose Computer Science because that's what everyone said I could make the most money in. As for college, I applied to a bunch of colleges and SRM was the only one I got in. It was my last resort. Still one of my the biggest regret.

My college life is excellent. This is a college where you can have fun and also score in life.
Placements: Around 3/4th of the students were placed in the course. The highest was 1 Crore. The lowest was 2-4 LPA. The average was 8 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Samsung, Wipro, Nokia, Open Silicon, Altran, Intel, IBM. Almost 90% of students got internships from our course, as it is mandatory for us to attend internships. Companies that recruited are Barclays, Amazon, Microsoft, TCS, etc. Roles offered are Design, Development, Problem Solving, Software Engineer, AI field.
Infrastructure: Spread across more than 250 acres of land, it provides a variety of facilities, state-of-the-art labs, a 4000-capacity AC auditorium, more than 100 smart classrooms, and a new Tech Park launched called TP-2. There are boys' and girls' hostels with premium facilities, and a fully eco-powered campus. MAC labs are present. In the hostels, free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. The food is average. Medical facilities are excellent but rather very expensive. SRM provides various playgrounds for sports and games. Outside the hostel, there is an outdoor gym.
Faculty: The teachers are very loving and helpful. The teaching quality depends on the teachers. Some teachers provide excellent teaching, whereas others are bad. The course curriculum is relevant from the 2nd year and above. The first years have to study everything that is not connected to the course they have chosen. The SEM exams are easy.

One of the Private Colleges to Give You a Good Engineering Life.
Placements: The placement drive for the 2024 batch went really well. Around 90% of the students got placed in their dream companies, and the male-to-female ratio of placements was almost equal. The upcoming placement drive for the next year’s batches also looks good, as the companies that arrived on campus this year were very satisfied with the students.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of both the college and hostel is very good and comfortable. Both the college and hostel are on campus, and the walking distance from the hostel to the desired college building is not too far. Coming to the infrastructure of the college, every classroom has a central A/C system with a smart board installed. The maximum capacity of students who can sit in one class is around 60-70. Every department has its own lab, which is very well organized, and all the systems are up to date. The library of the campus is one of the attractive points as it has a 3-floor library which houses books and papers from every department. Apart from that, you also get access to the digital library provided by SRM. Coming to hostels, there are generally two categories: A/C and non-A/C. You get to choose your hostel before your session begins. The basic infrastructure of all hostels is the same, and commodities can be a little different depending on the hostel you choose. The mess food is average but healthy.
Faculty: The teachers are all Ph.D. holders, but when it comes to teaching, I haven't found any who are actually good at ATIT. Some of the teachers are helpful, but some can be very strict when it comes to your internal marks—you literally have to beg sometimes to pass a particular internal. Coming to courses and subjects, in the first year, all department students study the same subjects, but after the second year, it gets different according to the department. The semester exams are stackable, not much difficult. If you study the basic concepts properly, you can crack the exams very easily.
Other: I chose this course because, as we all know, in the upcoming future, AI is going to play a very vital role in every industry sector. In the upcoming 3 to 4 years, the demand for AI-learned engineers will be very high. The pros of this course are that you get to learn new things and skills. There are two very famous events which happen every year in our college: Aarush in the month of September and Milan in the month of March. Many celebrities and activities are organized at these events. Last year, Samay Raina, Neeti Mohan, etc., were some of the celebrities who came to these events. This year, Bhuvan Bam also came for the Under-25 summit in the month of September. SRM is very renowned for its achievements in sports categories, and many Olympic-level players have studied and trained in SRM. The college also provides all the necessary equipment and gear for every certain sport. Coming to scholarships, there are numerous ways you can get a scholarship. One is to ace the SRMJEE exam and get a rank below 100 to get a certain amount of waiver in your early fees. You can check out all the other scholarship programs on our college’s official website.

The worst college for subjects and placements. I don't recommend you to join this college.
Placements: A very few students were placed in my course due to lack of knowledge regarding the subjects, this is all because of the faculty. We have raised complaints against them but the management doesn't care about it. If any one is interested to join this college only for placements, it’s better to choose another course in this college because this course is not the correct one to choose for getting placed. Some companies used to come here to hire us but that was a waste of time as they conducted interviews just for formality, and some rounds later, they just hire a few students. The highest and the lowest packages shown in the advertisements were not from my course.
Infrastructure: The facilities are average but the fee we are paying is higher. Facilities like Wi-Fi is available but it won't work properly, labs have systems but AC doesn't work properly. There is always some maintenance work going on. Library is often cool compared to the remaining infrastructure. Classrooms are not well maintained. Hostel is good but the security was very strict, at times they conduct checking in the rooms disturbing the privacy.
Faculty: The worst thing I have faced here is regarding the faculty as they lack knowledge and are only useful for school students. They need to up skill their subject knowledge for teaching us. If anyone is expecting a good faculty here, I highly recommend you to choose another college. Exams are difficult to pass in the initial stage, later on, the college will pass you by taking money. Only 40 to 60 percent students will clear all the subjects in a single sitting.
Other: It’s a boring college having no entertainment or fun activity. There are no culture activities either. It is a waste of money and time to join this college. From the first year till now, I just learned only ‘hello world programme’, that's it.
