Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Can I join SRM IST without the entrance?

A:

Yes, SRM University offers direct admission to certain programs for eligible candidates who meet the required eligibility criteria. The admission criteria for these programs may include past academic performance, work experience, and other relevant factors. However, for most of the programs offered by SRM University, admission is through the SRMJEEE (SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination) or other national level entrance exams.

Therefore, it is recommended that you check the specific admission requirements for the programme you are interested in on the university's website or by contacting the admissions office. In case you do not qualify for direct admission or wish to appear for the entrance exam, you can apply for SRMJEEE and appear for the exam. The exam is conducted annually and is the basis for admission to several programs offered by the university.

Q:   Is SRM Kattankulathur costly to study BTech?

A:

SRM Kattankulathur is a private university, so the tuition fees is relatively high. However, it is still more affordable than many other private universities in India. The tuition fees for BTech at SRM Kattankulathur range from INR 10 lakh - INR 18 lakh, depending on the specialisation.

In addition to tuition fees, students also need to pay other fees such as hostel fees, mess fees, and exam fees. The cost of hostel, mess and laundry can range from INR 1 lakh to INR 2.5 lakh per year, depending upon the room or bed you wish to choose. Whether or not SRM Kattankulathur is costly to study BTech depends on your financial situation as well.

Q:   Is SRM University good for B.Tech?

A:

Here are some positive and negative points of SRM University:

Positive:

  1. Located in Chennai which is a metropolitan city. Three out of five campuses are located in Chennai
  2. You can have a lot of fun
  3. In KTR, there are a lot of opportunities provided to students to develop their profile like hundreds of clubs, teams like robocon, conrods, camber, and 4ze where students can build their own bots, cars and stuff. If you are really interested in your field then you can do anything in SRM
  4. Canteen facilities are excellent
  5. As far as placements are concerned, most students are placed in IT sector. Core companies also visit the campus but they select only one or two students. In a batch of 500600 students i.e. 1520 students are placed in core companies. But still that depends on your skills and we can’t blame the university for that.

Negative:

  1. The student to faculty ratio is too high.
  2. Faculty members are not very highly skilled, though they are postgraduates in their respective field. Most of them have completed M.Tech from other local colleges. There are very few from IITs and foreign universities.
  3. The curriculum is old.
  4. The evaluation system is also not very good.
  5. Very little research happens here. Most of the faculty members don’t have any publications
  6. Also, if you have a lot of money you can join in management quota into any branch you want. Almost half of the students have joined in management quota.

All the best.

Our campus life is excellent.
Placements: Around 30-50% of students got placed in this course. Few students opted for higher studies. The highest salary package offered was 24 LPA by Amazon. The lowest salary package offered was 3.5 LPA. The average salary package offered was 6.5 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Amazon, Honda, Hero Motors Crop, Godrej and Boyce, Renault Nissan, Havells, etc. Almost 30% of students got internships in companies like Amazon, Garuda Aerospace, Anand Group, etc. Top roles offered are GET, R&D, and manager.
Infrastructure: Facilities are excellent. The infrastructure is very good. Many laboratories are available. Digital classrooms are available. Several books are available in the library.
Faculty: All teachers are average. They are helpful in all aspects. They always clarify our doubts regarding research, project, etc. The course curriculum is relevant to make students ready for the industry. Semester exams are not difficult. If we study well, we can score good marks. The pass percentage is 80-90%.
Other: I chose this course because of my interest in it. The best thing about this course is the course curriculum. The course is for 4 years. You can meet multicultural people and develop your contacts with them. Many programs are conducted in this college.

Our college has good infrastructure.
Placements: The placement percentage of our college is 100%. The highest salary package offered is 45 LPA. The average salary package offered is 6 LPA. Top companies visit our college to recruit students. Top recruiting companies are Tata, Hero Honda, Microsoft, Google, etc. Our college provides internship opportunities every semester. If we have any interest in their topic, we can apply for it. They will give certification.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is good. Our college provides us with all facilities. Classrooms are equipped with air-conditioners, with good environment. They are well-cleaned. They give instructions to keep the classrooms clean. They provide free Wi-Fi for students in classrooms and hostel. The hostel rooms are equipped with air-conditioners. The hostel has non-air-conditioned rooms, attached bathrooms, and common bathrooms. The price may vary according to your selection.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful. They always give instructions about exams and courses. They try to understand us what they will teach and other subject details. Semester exams are not much difficult. If we study well, we can clear the exams. We have to look at our portions thoroughly.
Other: I opted for this course because of my interest in robotics and mechanics. It is the best university in India.

It is one of the best private colleges in India.
Placements: Around 80-90% of students get placed in our college. It provides many internship opportunities for students. Top recruiting companies are Mahindra, Wipro, Honda, Ford, and Tata Motors. The average salary package is 4 LPA to 5 LPA.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is good. Hostel is well-maintained and the warden is friendly with students. Our college has one of the best libraries which is well-maintained and well-organised with many books. Library is expanded up to the 3rd floor. Wi-Fi is available and the speed depends on the place.
Faculty: A maximum of teachers in our college are Ph.D. holders and few are pursuing Ph.D. The course curriculum is designed in such a way that is beneficial for students. The examination pattern is averagely difficult.
Other: I chose this course because a mechatronics degree makes students easily solve complex engineering problems and grow in demand. Campus life is very good. Seniors are cooperative. Our college organises extracurricular activities on time to improve students.

Faculty is good. SRM University giving lots of opportunity in placements .
Placements: The placements are really good, and they help us at every step where the placement part is most important. Lots of companies arrive at the SRM campus for recruitment. Many known companies pick students from here. If the student does well in his academics, then he will definitely get placed with a good package. Sometimes, the college even provides 100% placements to all students.
Infrastructure: The course is vast, but it's very helpful, and everything in the syllabus seems to be well planned. The faculty will be guiding you at every step. The hostels are amazing with good quality of food and cleanliness. The hostel and campus are ragging free.
Faculty: The faculty members seem to be experienced, and the staff are very helpful in every manner one can be. The exams are pre-announced, and even teachers ensure that no student fails by keeping an eye on every student particularly. The SRM team makes the college an excellent college.

It is a decent college but could be better.
Placements: Our college will show that it has 100% placements which might be true. But after interacting with seniors, they told me that the salary packages offered are very low, especially in engineering. You have to be very good to get a decent salary package. Even though the faculty members may say that only CGPA is required for you to get placements, more importantly, your ability matters to innovate, which will help you succeed. I completely agree with that. But most of the faculty members don't mean it and just want their results to be high.
Infrastructure: The facilities are decent here, but the food served in the mess for hostellers is not good and can cause students to get sick. Our college has its own hospital, so there is some discount for students. I don't know a lot about sports and games provided by the college as I stay outside the campus as most of the students do.
Faculty: In our field, students need a lot of hands-on experience, but the faculty members focus more on theory. So this isn't one of the hands-on experiences providing courses. Exams are conducted almost every month, which forces students to study just before the exams. Hence students barely pass. For the 2nd year students, currently, the pass percentage was merely 30%-40% due to misconduct on the part of both students and faculty members, i.e., they adopted a hybrid mode. Our college opened, and students were asked to come to college. Faculty members stopped conducting online classes, and students were forced to come to college as online attendance was not provided then.
Other: A lot of events are organised on the campus, and celebrities also visit here for events. But due to Covid, the events have not been organised. There are a lot of opportunities, but the students have to do everything on their own as there are clubs for that, but it will affect your studies and social life. The administration is bad. They don't provide any information to you on time or after time about a particular matter. If there will be holidays, they won't confirm it until the last minute, which affects students while making travel arrangements. This will be the same case in everything.

There are no specific companies that recruit mechatronics students only, if you take mechatronics then you need to apply for automobile, mechanical or electric
