VIT UNIVERSITY, a place to learn and a chance to grow.
Placements: Placements here are carried out mostly through the student internship method where students get do their final year thesis or project work in any of the core companies and chances of getting job in the same company. Apart from which students are placed in non core companies like TCS, Accenture and other IT or software companies.
Infrastructure: It's a very lively infrastructure where one cam firm lot of green and the lab facilities are upto the mark, its one the best private university with way good laboratories. The building wise the classrooms are well-equipped with smart boards and projectors. Completely digitilazied way of teaching.
Faculty: Faculty members are so chilled and very helping, they guide students through all they need to get settled in life. From academics to extracurricular activities. The course curriculum was designed based on the CAL system which is very flexible for a research academic.
Other: A good place to get a lots of academic exposure.

Great experience in terms of course, but heavy workload, great infrastructure and hostel conditions
Placements: Placements are not a problem in our college. Even in terms of placements for the biotechnology department. The college has MoUs with a lot of biotech industries and helps in contacting those companies regarding internships as well as placements. Most of the seniors I know of have been placed, or are pursuing their PhDs abroad. The college also offers help with respect to higher education as well. The salary is in the range of 9,000 to 20,000 rupees per month, but can be higher depending on the company and the position. Companies that often come to the college are Biocon, Anthem, Dr. Reddy's, Novozymes, etc. Research institutes such as IISc also take in students for internships and projects. The roles offered in companies are generally in either the R&D sector or the quality management sectors. the training period ranged from 4-8 months. Getting internships is not a problem because of the MoUs that the department has with the companies and the stipend can be up to 9,000 rupees per month. There are companies though that do not offer stipends too.
Infrastructure: The facilities offered on the campus are extremely good. The Wi-Fi service available to all students with up to a 10 GB usage per month, although it cannot be used after 12:30 at night. The library is one of the best, and for Masters students, the borrowing limit for books is up to 6 books at a time which is quite handy. The library is centrally air-conditioned and is a very pleasant and quiet place to study. The students are allowed to stay up to 12:30 during examinations. The collection of books is excellent and all the books that are necessary and important for any course will be available there. When it comes to co-curriculars, there are 3-4 gymnasiums and plenty of grounds for cricket, basketball, football, volleyball, badminton, swimming pools, etc. There are also provisions for music classes. There are a lot of places for eateries and plenty of mess options for the hostellers. The labs are state of the art with most labs being funded by organisations like DST, DBT, IISER etc. the classrooms are a bit old, but are in no way a discomfort to the learning system. The classes are conducted on smart boards and the process of teaching and learning becomes so much more efficient because of it. The food quality is excellent, especially for hostellers, we get very good value for money, both in terms of quality and quantity with provisions for vegetarian, non-vegetarian as well as special mess services. The hostel rooms vary from block to block, but are generally moderately big, not very spacious but comfortable (approximately 15ft*15ft for a 2-share room). There are also AC and non-AC rooms available. There haven't been any issues related to infrastructure that I personally faced during my tenure in the college.
Faculty: The faculty are extremely helpful and easy to approach regarding any issues with respect to the curriculum or any help with projects and internships. Almost all the lecturers in the Biotech Dept. are PhD holders and some of them even post-doctorate holders and carry a vast knowledge and experience in the course that they teach. There are about 100 faculty members in the biotech department alone and so, a lot of help is offered with respect to the course content. The course that is followed is a fully flexible credit system where the students can choose the courses that they wish to take in each semester (core courses and electives). This gives a lot of scope for the students to take multiple subjects of their choice and save up on credits for any subsequent semesters. The teaching generally involves teacher-student classroom interaction, but we, Masters students have subjects which have projects in some subjects too, making the learning process much easier and efficient. There is also exposure given in terms of publishing papers and attending conferences as the projects that you do during the semester can be eligible for the same. The number of students in my class is around 30 and so, the attention given to each individual by the faculty is very good. Industrial visits are conducted each semester to help the students in understanding the industrial operations. Although we did not receive any industrial visit in the first semester, our seniors said that they had such visits organised. The course overall is a very intensive course and there is definitely a lot of workload that a student will face. But ultimately, the learning involved is definitely on the higher level.
