How To Prepare For JEE Main 2025 With Past Year Question Papers

Procure the past 4-5 year question papers of JEE Main. Please note that both offline papers (one in number) and online papers (multiple) have been held over the past few years. This would mean you should comfortably have around 15 papers at hand. Divide these papers randomly into 3 equal sets (call them A, B & C) and proceed as follows:

Q:   How to score good marks in JEE Mains?

A:
To score good marks in JEE Mains, study NCERT books thoroughly. NCERT books are the best to understand the basic concepts. In JEE Main exam, questions are asked that test students' conceptual and analytical understanding. So, students should build their conceptual knowledge and solve numerical problems on every topic. Another essential piece of advice is to solve the previous year's paper to gain insight into the exam's difficulty level and how questions are asked.

Q:   How many months are required to prepare for JEE Mains exam?

A:
The time period required to complete the JEE Main preparation depends mainly on the students. Every student has their own pace of study. Ideally, 6-month time is good enough to complete the JEE Main preparation. Students who have started preparing from class 11 or 12 can easily prepare for JEE Main. In 6 months considering the topics of JEE syllabus have already been studied in classes 11 and 12. JEE Main preparation is most effective with classes 11 and 12 as almost 90-95 percent of topics are similar in both exams. This way students can easily complete the entire JEE Main. Syllabus as well as the syllabus of classes 11 and 12. After the board exams, students get 2-3 months' time where they can focus entirely on JEE Main. Students who have started late for the JEE Main exam can make a 6-month plan where in the first three months they have to focus on revising the syllabus studied in classes 11 and 12. In the next two months focus on solving questions of JEE Main and analyzing the mistakes being made, if any. The last month should be focused on solving mock tests and JEE Main previous year question papers.

Q:   How to crack JEE Mains in first attempt?

A:

Hi aspirant!

Clearing the JEE Main exam in first attempt is not a difficult task. If we see the year over year statistics, the ratio of students who clear JEE Main in first attempt is high in comparison to students who dropped a year after class 12. One thing that makes it easy to clear JEE Main with class 12 is that students are in regular touch of most JEE syllabus. To score good marks in JEE Main in the first attempt, it is advised that you study class 11 and 12 topics thoroughly, clear all the concepts and solve mock test papers. Also, NCERT books which you study in class 11 and 12 are the best books for JEE Main preparation. Students must study NCERT properly and solve all the questions in the book and do not memorize the concepts as some students do rather understand the concepts.

Hope this cleared your doubt. Best wishes!

Set A:  Attempt JEE Main questions in this set topic-wise to understand your command of the concepts involved. Now accordingly plan further revision and practice. Jot down all such concepts where you have committed mistakes and refer to them frequently to avoid repeating those in further practice/tests.

Set B:  In this set of JEE Main question papers, you are advised to attempt questions topic-wise to check for improvement and the need for more practice in topics where you still face problems. At this stage, you are advised to get in touch with your respective teachers to clear any conceptual doubts you might be having. If you find any concept that is still not clear, it is better to avoid questions based on them and focus on topics where you have better command and confidence.

Set C:  Take JEE Main previous year papers in this set as full tests the way you would be taking your actual JEE Main 2025.

How to prepare for JEE Main 2025 Physics

    1. Make yourself familiar with various units associated with physical quantities. Compile a list of all units where you often get confused.
    2. Pay special attention to topics that are in the syllabus for JEE Mains 2025 but not in JEE Advanced like Semiconductor devices, Electromagnetic waves, communication systems etc. Questions based on these topics are often straightforward. A little extra reading helps you improve your score significantly. A thorough understanding of all that is given in NCERT textbooks on such topics is usually sufficient to solve questions in JEE Mains.
    3. Make sure you have a good command of ‘Vector treatment’ wherever required.
    4. Along with any standard formula also understand their limitation. For example, the famous equations of Kinematics are for uniform acceleration only.

How to prepare for JEE Main 2025 Chemistry

Physical Chemistry

You should maintain a diary for quick revision of simple formulas about chapters like atomic structure, solid-state, ionic equilibrium, electrochemistry, and thermochemistry. Also, keep in mind the situations where these formulae cannot be applied directly. Extra emphasis should be given to the topics mentioned above as more questions are often asked about these topics. One should also remember the values of log 2 (0.3010) and log 3 (0.4771) as they often come up during calculations.

Q:   Is one month sufficient for JEE Main preparation?

A:
One month is not sufficient for JEE Main preparation if a student has not started preparing or have not studied earlier for the exam. As the syllabus of JEE Main is vast, studying all the topics and remembering them take a lot of effort. However, class 12 student can get a decent score in JEE Main if time after the bard exam is devoted exclusively for the JEE preparation. Since most topics of JEE Main and class 12 are similar, students need to revise all the topics and solve previous year JEE Main question papers. Start solving JEE Main mock test papers at last 3-4 days before the exam to make yourself comfortable with the exam.

Q:   How can I prepare for JEE Main 2025 without coaching?

A:
Taking help of coaching is not necessarily required for clearing the JEE Mains exam. Many students score good marks in JEE Main by self-studying, without help from coaching. To crack JEE Mains without coaching, students need to make a study plan considering the time they have before exam. Students can take help of online tutorials and videos from previous year toppers who have cleared the exam without coaching to understand their strategy. One thing that is required when students are not taking coaching is regular study. Make a daily time table of study and devote at least 5-6 hours for JEE Main preparation. Students who are in class 11 or 12 can give 3-4 hours specifically for JEE beside school studies. Students who have passed class 12 should also study at least 6 hours daily.

Q:   Which are the most scoring and easy chapters from chemistry for JEE Mains?

A:
Hi JEE Main Chemistry Important Topics (with 2-3 Questions each) Atomic Structure. Gaseous State. Hydrocarbons. Aldehydes and Ketones. D & f Block Elements. General Organic Chemistry.

Q:   How to prepare for JEE Main from Class 11th and 12th?

A:
Starting the JEE Main preparation from class 11 or 12 is the best time. As JEE Main syllabus consists of topics from class 11 and 12, students can easily cover all the topics along with school. Students can begin by checking the topics that is covered in both school and JEE Main and give special attention to them. For all three subjects, study NCERT and also take help from reference books. Understand the concepts thoroughly and solve numerical problems. To crack JEE Main along with class 12, students should devote at least 2-3 hours for JEE beside class 12 studies. Regularly solve JEE Main mock test and solve previous year question papers to evaluate the performance.

Q:   Which important topics should I prepare to qualify the JEE Mains exam?

A:
Hi, Below mentioned are the important topics: 1. Mathematics: AP, GP, conic section, probability, algebra, calculus and 3D geometry. 2. Physics: Modern physics, gravitation, unit and dimension, work, electrostatic and optics. 3. Chemistry: States of matter, thermodynamic, equilibrium, chemical bonding, solid states, hydrogen, S and P block elements. All the best.

Organic chemistry

Here the focus should be on various name reactions that you have come across and their mechanism. Reactions like Ozonolysis, Aldol, Cannizzaro, Perkin, and Hoffmann’s should be thoroughly understood and questions related to them should be practiced. Special focus should be on GOC and one should be good at comparing the stability of reaction intermediates and questions related to acidity and basicity. Isomerism and Organic compounds containing Oxygen should be dealt with in minute detail. Lastly one should remember tests of the various functional groups.

Inorganic Chemistry

Here again one should maintain a diary for noting down trivial facts about the formula of ores and the composition of alloys which often come up in objective tests. Besides this, the focus should be on chapters like chemical bonding, p block elements, and coordination chemistry from where the bulk of questions are asked.

How to prepare for JEE Main 2025 Mathematics

For Maths, it is advisable to have a list of formulae and important concepts handy. It is better to make this list oneself rather than rely on some pre-prepared list as while writing it out one can modify it to suit individual requirements.

  1. Coordinate Geometry: Go through the formulae with an eye on trying to pick up similarities between them – this will help in recall during the examination. Do not underestimate geometrical properties, especially for straight lines and circles; include those in your notes too.
  2. Trigonometry: Split your notes into four parts - basic formulae, trigonometric equations, inverse, and solution of triangles. Though there seem to be a lot of formulae in this chapter in reality JEE-Main questions are likely to be based on the more common results so keep those in mind.
  3. Algebra: There are few formulae here, mainly properties. For Quadratic or Theory of equations be clear about how the symmetric sums of roots occur in an equation as well as the transformation of equations. It is important in Complex Numbers to revise the interpretation of various formulae in the geometric form, it makes them more intuitive and easier to remember. Binomial, Permutation Combination, and probability are all connected and should be revised together. In the latter two, it's good to have a marked few typical problems to revise as well since they are less formula-based and geared more towards problem-solving strategies.
  4. Calculus:  You should be very clear on the standard limits, differentiation formulae, and standard integration results. Besides this also revises the theoretical requirements for Continuity and Differentiability as well as the properties of Definite Integration.
  5. Vector and 3-D Geometry: Try to do them in conjunction as they are closely related. The questions in this section are likely to involve standard formulae.
