Consistent practice and strong basics helped Himashu Singh top JEE Main 2019 January exam. Read on to know his success strategy!
Himanshu Gaurav Singh from Gorakhpur, UP, was one of the 15 toppers of JEE Main 2019 exam conducted in January. With a 100 percentile, this topper will not be appearing for the second phase of the exam to be held in April. Rather, he is concentrating on cracking JEE Advanced for admissions to one of the premier IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology). He shared, “I am happy with my performance and feeling upbeat to prepare for the next test, JEE Advanced”.
Fond of Mathematics, Himanshu aims to pursue Computer Science Engineering (CSE) after qualifying the second level of the JEE system. In a candid interview with Shiksha, Himanshu shares his success mantra to help prospective JEE Main candidates prepare effectively for the exam.
Q. How long have you been preparing for JEE Main 2019?
I have been studying maths and science since early childhood specifically JEE type preparation started from Class X.
Q. What was your preparation strategy for the exam? What is the minimum time frame needed to prepare for JEE Main?
There was no specific strategy as such. I just tried to keep myself 100% conscious during the exam and minimise human errors. Being thorough with basics suffices for JEE main and 2 years are sufficient enough.
Q. Which books did you refer to for JEE Main preparation?
I took coaching classes from FIITJEE. So the material they provided was majorly focused on Maths and Physics. For Chemistry, I kept 100% focus on NCERT books.
Q. Can you share your subject-wise NTA score?
- Physics : 99.9963494
- Chemistry : 99.9917861
- Math: 100.000000
Q. What’s your strategy for JEE Advanced?
Well, exhaustive revision and increasing attention span is what I am focusing on.
Q. What did you do to improve your weak areas?
I only practiced and nothing else.
Q. Will you be taking any other exam/s besides JEE Main and Advanced?
Yes, I would be appearing for the Indian national Olympiads (INO) by HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education).
Q. Do you think coaching is required to crack JEE?
There is no fixed route to success. Every successful person carves his own path, so saying that coaching is something non-negotiable for cracking JEE will not be true.
Q. Any tips for aspirants taking JEE Main 2019 April exam?
Keep calm and learn from your previous mistakes. Also, realise your 100% potential.
Q. So, tell us something about your family?
I belong to a humble family hailing originally from Allahabad. I have a younger brother apart from my parents and me in my family.
Q. Where do you see yourself in the future?
Few years down the line, I see myself as teacher cum-researcher. Though, I am not that sure.
Q. Tell us about yourself and your hobbies.
Mathematics problems are my prime hobbies. Apart from that, I play badminton and occasionally listen to music.
