ECE Department @IIT KGP: One of the Bests you can get.
Placements: I was enrolled in the Dual Degree of ECE Department programme with an M.Tech Specialisation in Visual Information and Embedded Systems. The internship and placement stats for the ECE department are good in both core and non-core. Around 80% of the students were successful in grabbing an internship in their pre-final year and almost 90% of students secured a decent placement. Almost all of the companies are open for the ECE department, the prominent ones in the software development profile are Sprinklr, Microsoft, Google, and Goldmann Sachs. Companies like Nvidia, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, and Intel were major recruiters for the core EC profile.
Infrastructure: All the facilities available in the department and classroom complex are top-notch. Wi-Fi speeds are really good and stable. All equipment in Lab is in working condition. Our Central Library is the best place you can find to cover on your Academics. The hostels are a bit old infrastructure wise but I would rate them above average. The quality of food differs from hall to hall. My hall had an excellent mess as well as night canteen. We have all the facilities for sports and games available. We have Technology Students Gymkhana which offers all the facilities to the students. We have a big open ground called Tata Steel Sports Complex. Moreover, we have open areas, basketball and badminton courts within hostels too. Talking about Medical Facilities, this is one aspect where I think IIT KGP should improve a lot. Medical facilities at IIT KGP are at the max average. For any serious ailments, you would be referred to Kolkata.
Faculty: The old curriculum (followed up to 2019 batch) was a bit outdated and hence the college has implemented a revised curriculum for all new admissions from 2020 onwards. The new curriculum is highly relevant to the present scenario and more CS courses are being included in the EC curriculum too. The semester exams are moderate in difficulty and one could score a decent CGPA by regularly attending the classes.
Other: Campus Life at IIT Kharagpur is simply the best. The atmosphere around is so jolly and vibrant. You would just love the green campus and it's vibe.

One of the best engineering college.
Placements: In my course, all the students who registered themselves for the placement process through CDC (Career Development Centre) are placed. The highest package offered is around 55 LPA this year, with a median package of 17 LPA. The top recruiting companies are Nvidia and Texas Instruments. I will be participating in the CDC internship process in the summer of 2024. In our previous batch, all students got internships except for 6 students who chose to do a research project. Companies like Sprinklr, Amazon, Nvidia, JLR, and Adobe were among the recruiters.
Infrastructure: The academic facilities and infrastructure are pretty good. We have a variety of labs like the Analog Electronics Lab, Digital Electronics Lab, Semiconductor Devices Lab, Microwave Lab, Digital Communication Lab, and Computer Vision Lab. The campus is covered by a Wi-Fi network that reaches everywhere. For most courses, we use the main classroom complex known as NALANDA. When a course has a small number of students, classes are held in the respective department. There's also a common library where you can easily find academic and other books related to research, literature, management, finance, and spirituality. The facilities in our halls (another name for hostels) are not up to par. The newly constructed halls are good, but they are limited in number. Most of the halls are old. The quality of food varies depending on the hall; in my hall, the food is good, but in others, it's generally not as great. The drainage system is quite old and sometimes not properly built in certain areas. The water supply pipeline system is also outdated. The rooms only have two sockets, and neither of them is near the bed.
Faculty: Professors are indeed helpful and qualified because their recruitment process is good. However, the issue here is that some professors do not take the subject lectures seriously, even though they are knowledgeable in their field. Some professors are excellent at teaching, like Goutam Saha and Sarang Pendharkar. The theory-wise curriculum is good, but the lab curriculum is quite outdated because most labs only have old inventory. Semester exams can vary in difficulty depending on the subjects. The pass percentage is where the positive aspect lies. In my course, most subjects are relatively easy, meaning there is no fixed cutoff. Even if the overall class performance is a bit low, everyone will still pass the exam.
Other: Most of the students choosing IITs prefer circuital branches due to their high placements and more opportunities. The best thing about electronics is that we can sit for both core and software companies during placements. To improve the course, the lab curriculum can be updated based on recent technology. Two major fests are the heart of our institute: Springs Fest (cultural) and Kshitij (Tech fest). This year, the Annual Sports fest SHAURYA is also organized. There are many clubs, societies, and cells where students handle all logistics and organize various events. For example, SWG (Student Welfare Group) organizes internship and placement prep sessions, while the Business Club hosts the International Case Challenge every year. Spectra (Fine Arts society) organizes Art Beat, the annual Fine Arts fest. There are also research groups where students collectively contribute and build new things, like Teamkart, which builds a racing car and represents our institute in Formula BHARAT. The list is extensive, so for further information, you can check the MetaKGP website.
