Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have made some enhancements in RRB ALP vacancies for Technician posts. The vacancies were revised to 14298 after adding 22 new categories. RRB ALP vacancies were revised after receiving demands from Zonal Railways. Out of which, 1092 are for Technician (Grade 1 Signal) and 8051 are for Technician Grade 3. Earlier, a total of 9144 vacancies were announced for Technician posts. The Railway Board had also prescribed the required community wise/category wise position and post parameters for these newly added categories. The educational qualification were also prescribed for the freshly added posts.
RRBs had revised the RRB ALP vacancies for Assistant Loco Pilot posts earlier. The number of vacancies was revised to 18799. Earlier, the vacancies announced for RRB ALP exam were 5696. This means, RRBs increased RRB ALP vacancies more than three times. Opportunity were given to candidates to revise their choice of RRBs once the category-wise vacancies are published. RRB ALP vacancies were announced category-wise and post-wise for different railway zones.
In 2018, a total of 64,371 vacancies were announced. Out of the total vacancies, 27,795 were released for RRB loco pilot posts & the remaining 36,576 vacancies were released for various Technical posts. Read below for more details on the vacancies of RRB ALP exam.

Q: What is the pattern of question papers in RRB ALP?
In first two CBTs questions will come in MCQ format. The third stage is CBAT, where candidates will be given five test batteries. The CBT carries 75 objective-type multiple-choice questions from Mathematics, General Intelligence, and Reasoning, General Science and General awareness on current affairs. The test carries a total of 75 marks. The duration of the test is 60 minutes. The standard of questions in first stage CBT is framed as per the educational qualification prescribed for the posts. The pattern for second stage is divided into parts-A and B. Part A of the second stage CBT comprises 100 objective-type questions from Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Basic Science and Engineering and General Awareness on Current Affairs. Part B carries questions based on the candidate's discipline.
Q: Is CBAT mandatory for all posts in RRB ALP?
In RRB ALP & Technician exam, only those who have applied for Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) and cleared second stage of, need to appear for CBAT. CBAT is for the candidates who have applied for technician post only. Candidates equal to eight times the number of ALP vacancies are called for CBAT based on the performance in Part A of second stage CBT, subject to qualifying the Part B. Candidates are required to qualify in each of the test batteries of CBAT. The questions in CBAT are in English and Hindi only. There is no negative marking in CBAT. To draw the merit list of ALP, 70 per cent weightage is given to Part A of second stage CBT and 30 per cent in CBAT.
