Q:   What is RRB Group D eligibility?

A: 
The minimum education qualification for candidates applying to the technical departments that is Civil Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical and Signal & Telecom departments) and catering wing of Railways will be Class 10 pass plus National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by National Council for Vocational Training or Class 10 pass plus ITI. The revised eligibility criteria in terms of educational qualification is applicable for all future recruitments notified after June 15, 2019 in Level-1 posts. Earlier, NAC or ITI was not mandatory to apply for RRB Group D 2022 exam. RRB Group D age limit is 18 to 33 years.

Q:   What is RRB Group D selection process?

A: 
RRB Group D selection process comprises CBT, PET/PST, document verification and medical exam. The transgender candidates are given relaxation in the PET. CCAAs trained in railway establishment are given due weightage of marks obtained in their NCVT exam in preparation of final merit list after the conduct of CBT. Based on the performance of candidates in CBT subject to their qualifying in PER, candidates are called for document verification as per their merit and options. In case of two or more candidates secure same marks, their merit position is determined by age criteria i.e., older person is placed at higher merit and in case age is same, then alphabetical order (A to Z) of the name is taken into account to break the tie. Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates. All candidates clearing the DV are called for medical exam. RRBs/RRCs only recommend names of the empanelled candidates and appointment is offered only by the respective Railway Administrations.

Q:   Is there any qualifying marks in RRB Group D exam?

A: 

Yes, there are qualifying marks in RRB Group D exam. The qualifying marks for your and EWS categories are 40 and 30 for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, and ST. These percentage of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2 per cent for PwBD candidates in case of shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them. Besides the cut off marks, candidates are required to secure the qualifying as per their categories to qualify the exam. For each correct answer in RRB Group D exam, candidates score one mark. 1/3 marks are deducted for wrong answers. The category-wise RRB Group D qualifying marks is given below.

Q:   What is RRB Group D normalisation?

A: 
RRBs follow percentile-based normalisation in the RRB Group D exam. The percentile score of each candidate is converted into normalised marks by inserting the raw marks into the base shift. The calculation of base shift is done by using the standard mathematical formula of interpolation. The percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates that have scored equal to or below (same or lower raw scores) that particular percentile in that examination.

Q:   What is the physical efficiency test in the RRB Group D exam?

A: 
Once candidates qualify for the computer-based tests of RRB Group D exam, then they are called for Physical Efficiency. Passing Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is mandatory, and it is qualifying in nature. In PET, the male candidates should be to lift and carry 35 Kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down and should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one chance. In PET, the female candidates should be able to lift and carry 20 Kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down and should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in one chance.

Q:   How the empanelling of candidates is done in RRB Group D exam?

A: 

Empanelling of candidates in RRB Group D exam is done based on their performance in CBT, subject to their qualifying in PET. The appointment is offered to selected candidates provided they qualify the requisite medical fitness test and document verification. In case two or more candidates secure the same marks, their merit position is determined by the age criteria. The letter of appointment is issued by the Railway Administrations. Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test to be conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates. It may also be noted that all candidates successful in DV are sent for Medical Examination. Clearing of such Medical Examination by additional candidates (those called for DV beyond the notified number of vacancies) will give such candidates no right to be considered for appointment. Candidates may note that RRBs/RRCs only recommend names of the empanelled candidates and appointment is offered only by the respective Railway Administrations.
