In 2023, a total of 81 vacancies were announced for Stenographer Grade C exam. A total of 1145 vacancies were announced for Stenographer Grade D. SSC Stenographer: Mode of selection
All registered candidates are first required to appear in the computer-based exam conducted by SSC. Based on the marks scored in the Computer Based Examination, candidates will be shortlisted category-wise to appear in the skill test. Skill Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature. The Commission will fix category-wise qualifying standard in the Skill Test for each post. The candidates who qualify the Skill Test will be considered for final selection on the basis of their merit in the Computer Based Examination. The final allocation of candidates will be done based on the performance in computer-based exam and preferences given by them at the time of document verification.

SSC Stenographers Salary 2024 is categorised into Grade C and Grade D, with monthly payments determined by the 7th pay commission. Grade C Stenographers enjoy an in-hand salary of INR 51,000, while Grade D Stenographers receive INR 36,000 per month.
The pay matrix ranges from INR 4,200 or INR 4,600 for Grade C to 2,400 for Grade D. In addition to the base SSC Stenographer salary reflected in the SSC Stenographer Grade C and D salary slip, employees are eligible for various allowances associated with their positions.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducted the Stenographer Grade 'C' and 'D' Examination 2024 on 10th and 11th December 2024. The tentative answer keys were released on 16th December 2024.
