What is CUET Normalisation 2024?

Providing a solution to the above-mentioned problem, NTA stated about a technique called as ''equipercentile method''.  According to NTA,'' In this method, percentile for each candidate is calculated using the raw marks of the candidate as compared to the raw marks of others in the same session. This is done for every session across multiple days for the same subject. These percentiles are then equated and converted into normalised marks. For sessions with a smaller number of candidates, these are clubbed with bigger sessions.''

In the normalisation process, the raw marks of students appearing for the same subject on different days and multiple shifts, are converted into normalised marks. The UGC Chairman, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, explaining about the Normalisation process, talking to PTI said, ''These normalised marks of the candidates, obtained using equipercentile method, in different sessions in a given subject can be used in the same way we use the raw marks of a conventional single session examination. Therefore, in a particular university, if the raw marks of the skill component have certain weightage it can be added to the remaining weightage of the normalized marks to prepare the rank list.''

Q:   How is CUET normalized score calculated?

A:

The CUET (Common University Entrance Test) normalised scores are derived through a systematic process that ensures fairness across different testing sessions. Here’s a detailed breakdown of how these scores are calculated:

  1. Raw Marks Collection: Initially, each candidate's raw marks are collected after they complete the exam. These marks represent the number of correct answers each candidate achieved.

  2. Percentile Calculation: For each candidate, their percentile is calculated based on how their raw marks compare to those of other candidates who took the exam in the same session. This percentile indicates the relative standing of a candidate among their peers within that specific session.

  3. Session Equating: The process involves multiple testing sessions that may occur over several days for the same subject. The percentiles calculated for each session are then equated to ensure consistency in scoring across all sessions.

  4. Normalisation Process: After equating the percentiles, they are converted into normalised marks. This step helps to standardise scores across varying exam conditions and candidate populations.

  5. Handling Smaller Sessions: In instances where a session has a limited number of candidates, those scores are aggregated with larger sessions. This clubbing ensures that every candidate's performance is compared against a more substantial and diverse group, leading to a more reliable and equitable normalised score.

Then through the linear interpolation method, marks of students are calculated in the above blanks in the table.

Step 4: Calculation of normalised marks

In the final step, normalised marks for each student are calculated on a common scale.
