Shiksha got talking to Kaustubh, wherein he spoke in lengths about his AILET preparation strategy, future plans and more. Read the complete interview below:

Q. Congratulations! Did you expect to be the topper of AILET 2019?

A.

Frankly, I was confident of clearing the AILET 2019 exam but AIR 10 was a big surprise to me. I was very happy as my year-long hard work finally paid off.

Q. Is NLU Delhi your first preference?

A.

No, my first preference has always been NLSIU Bangalore. But I really adore NLU Delhi as it provides many opportunities and good exposure in the field of law.

Q. Could you tell us your preparation strategy that helped you crack AILET exam?

A.

First of all, the most important thing is to analyse past years’ AILET question papers and get to know about the AILET exam pattern. My main focus was on English and Critical Reasoning which I brushed up throughout the year. I studied GK from various sources and stayed in touch with legal affairs as well. I gave a lot of mock tests throughout the year to get the hang of competition. Also, constant revision of the topics I studied played a very crucial part in my AILET preparation.

Q. Did you taking any coaching for this exam?

A.

Yes, I took coaching from CLAT Prep Education, Jaipur which provided me constant support, motivation and guidance during my preparation.

Q. What study plan did you follow for this exam?

A.

The main focus was on giving mock tests as if it was an actual exam and thereafter, analyzing them. It was an inherent part of my AILET preparation. Also, I studied on daily basis and revised concepts/ topics on a week-to-week basis.

Q. Which books did you study for the exam?

A.

I followed RS Aggarwal for Maths and Reasoning, MK Pandey for Critical Reasoning, SP Bakshi and Wren & Martin for English and a couple of websites for General Knowledge. Apart from this, I studied from my coaching material and practiced past year papers which was more than sufficient.

Q. How did you deal with your strengths and weaknesses while preparing for the exam?

A.

I knew about my strong and weak subjects at the start of my preparation. Initially, my strengths were Maths, Reasoning and General Knowledge. I focused a lot on my vocabulary and grammar and ended up learning around 4,000 new words which were instrumental in my reading comprehension.

I did preparation for Legal Aptitude by solving various mock tests. I sharpened my strengths by solving complex questions.

Q. Any tips for students who are planning to take the exam next year?

A.

AILET is a comparatively tougher exam than CLAT and it needs to be handled in a smart way. English, Critical Reasoning and Legal GK are the most important parts of this exam. Also, while attempting the paper, easy questions should be attempted first and then the rest ones.

It's difficult to say if you can get into an NLU with an AIR of 15466 in CLAT 2024 As to get into one of the top Nlus, general category candidates should aim for a score of 90 or more in CLAT 2024. For SC/ST categories, 60–70 points is considered a decent score.

With a CLAT rank of 30,000, admission to National Law Universities (NLUs) is highly unlikely for their main campuses, as most of them have cutoffs well below this rank. However, you may still have chances in some newer or less competitive NLUs, especially in lower-category programs. It's important t

As per the NLU Delhi BA LLB (Hons) AILET 2024 cutoff, the AILET  score for general category in 2024 stood at 71. The score for the same category and course stood at 106 in 2023 and 86 in 2022. Based on this trend, it can be said that getting a score between 80 and 90 would be good enough.
