The CLAT exam is the toughest and only way to get into one of the best National Law Universities (NLUs) in the country. The full form of CLAT is Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). CLAT is held by the Consortium of NLUs for admission to various courses. CLAT Registration Process 2026 is likely to begin in July 2025 and candidates can submit their CLAT Application Formon or before the deadline While CLAT is conducted for admission to NLUs specifically except for NLU Delhi, many law colleges in the country accept CLAT Scores for their admission process. CLAT Exam Date is likely to be held on December 7, 2025.

List of courses offered through CLAT 2026

Q:   What are CLAT passing marks for the SC and ST category?

A:

CLAT cut off is always released in the form of opening and closing ranks by each NLU after the conclusion of counseling rounds. CLAT 2025 Cut off is expected to range between 95-100 for the general category while for SC/ST and OBC category CLAT Cut off is likely to range between 80-85. CLAT 2025 cut-offs will be released separately for the UG and PG courses, as well as for each category (Open, PwD, SC, ST, OBC). 

Q:   What are CLAT 2025 qualifying marks for the OBC category?

From the total seats offered at all the National Law Universities (NLUs), a reservation is provided to different categories including OBC, SC, ST, PWD, KM, Armed Forces and more. Know here all about CLAT 2025 Reservation Policy for all NLUs in detail. CLAT cut off for OBC ranges between 70-80. Previously, CLAT cut off for OBC and SC/ST use to be between 80 to 85. Students must note that CLAT 2025 cut off may vary from college to college for all categories of students.

All those candidates who are willing to appear for the CLAT should meet the eligibility criteria as announced by the Consortium of National Law Universities. All eligible candidates must fill the CLAT application form before the last date.The consortium released the updated eligibility criteria of CLAT for admission to 5-year LLB and LLM courses on its official website. These criteria include parameters like academic qualification, minimum marks, age limit, etc.

Eligibility criteria of courses offered through CLAT 2026

To secure admission to the law college of your choice, it is mandatory to appear for CLAT Exam 2026. Though there is no age limit to appear for the CLAT Exam, candidates have to ensure that they meet all the eligibility criteria for the particular course. Candidates can check the course-wise eligibility criteria for all courses offered through CLAT in the table given below:

  • Candidate must have completed his/her education up to the 10+2 level or its equivalent.
  • The candidate must get his/her Class 12th degree from a recognised state or central board of secondary education.
  • Candidate must have secured no less than 45% aggregate marks at the 10+2 level (40% for reserved category candidates)
  • Apart from this, the candidate must have scored passing marks in all the subjects of class 12th.

BCom LLB 

BSc LLB 

  • The candidate must have completed his/her education up to 10+2 level or its equivalent
  • Aspirant must have received his/her class 12th degree from a recognised board of education (central or state).
  • Those looking for admission to BSc LLB, they should have completed class 12th in the science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/ Biology as the main subjects.
  • For BTech LLB, the aspirants must have done class 12th in the science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the main subjects.
  • Applicant must have secured atleast 45% marks in aggregate at the 10+2 level (40% for reserved category candidates)
  • He/ she must have scored passing marks in all the subjects of class 12th.

  • Aspirants must have completed his/her education up to the graduation level.
  • The applicant must have a undergraduate degree in law
  • Applicant must have received his/her Undergraduate dree from a recognised university or college

The exam pattern of CLAT carries important details such as the mode of the exam, the total number of questions, the marking scheme, etc. The CLAT 2026 exam will be held in offline mode. In CLAT 2026 Exam, 120 questions will be asked in CLAT UG and 120 questions in CLAT PG exam.

 

Q:   I have not cleared the CLAT exam. Can I appear for the exam again?

A:

Yes, you can definitely appear for the CLAT exam again if you did not clear it in the first attempt. The CLAT exam is conducted once a year by the Consortium for enrolling students in various law courses offered at 24 NLUs in the country.

There is no limit on the number of attempts that you can make for the CLAT exam. However, you have to fulfill the eligibility criteria to appear in the exam. All those candidates who are willing to appear for the CLAT 2025 should meet the eligibility criteria as announced by the Consortium of National Law Universities. All eligible candidates must fill the CLAT 2025 application form before the last date.The consortium released the updated eligibility criteria of CLAT 2025 for admission to 5-year LLB and LLM courses on its official website. These criteria include parameters like academic qualification, minimum marks, age limit, etc.

Q:   What is the age limit for CLAT 2026?

A:

As per the official eligibility criteria of the CLAT 2026, there was no age-limit criteria for candidates to appear in CLAT UG 2026 or CLAT PG 2026 exam. However, it was mandatory for candidates to fulfill other basic educational requirements, to take part in the CLAT Exam 2026.

Candidates must pass Class 12 examination by April/May 2026 and submit the passing certificates at the time of admission.
To be eligible for the CLAT PG 2026, you must have a minimum percentage of 50 per cent in LLB or any other equivalent degree from a recognised university.

 

Q:   Who is eligible to appear for CLAT 2025?

A:

In order to be eligible for CLAT 2025, aspirants must have passed Class 12 exams or an equivalent examination from any recognised board or institution in the country. All those candidates who will be appearing in the Class 12 exam in April/ May 2025 are also eligible to appear for the CLAT 2025 Exam. However, such aspirants will have to produce the certificate of qualifying examination at the time of admission failing which their admission will be cancelled by the competent authority. Candidates are advised to carefully check the CLAT eligibility criteria 2025 before applying for the CLAT 2025 entrance exam. 

Q:   When can I apply for CLAT 2026?

A:

The Consortium of National Law Universities is expected to begin the application process of CLAT 2026 soon. Candidates can check about exact timeline of CLAT application process on this page - https://www.shiksha.com/law/clat-exam-application-form. Candidates can fill the CLAT 2026 application form until the last date Candidates can check the list of documents required for filling CLAT Application Form 2026 below: 

  • A working email ID and mobile number
  • Class 10 and 12 mark sheets
  • ID and address proof (Aadhaar Card/Driving License/PAN Card, etc.)
  • Scanned Passport size photograph (Format: JPEG)
  • Scanned signature (Format: JPEG)
  • Category certificate if applying under SC/ST/OBC category
  • Relevant certificate issued by a competent authority if applying as PwD or BPL candidate

Q:   Is caste certificate required for CLAT?

A:

All those candidates who will be mentioning their cast during the application form submission must note that they will require to submit the common reservation or category certificates required during CLAT counseling include: 1. Caste Certificate: - Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), or Other Backward Classes (OBC) need to provide a valid caste certificate.
