Talking about her preferred National Law Universities in India, Harshita revealed that NLU Delhi is not her first preference. She further shared that NALSAR University of Law is her first preference followed by NLSIU Bangalore and then NLU Delhi.

Shiksha spoke exclusively to Harshita Gupta about her AILET 2018 prep strategy and experience of giving the law entrance exam. You can read the detailed interview below.

Q. Congratulations! Did you expect to be the topper of AILET 2018?

A.

Thank you so much. Frankly, Rank 2 came as a big surprise but I am happy that my hard work paid off.

Q. Could you tell us your preparation strategy that helped you crack AILET exam?

A.

I continuously wrote mock tests, worked on my weak areas and made sure that I give my best on the D-day. I think the more you are consistent, the better are your chances of clearing the exam.

AILET being a difficult paper, I was ready to face any surprises that may come and I tried to cover as many type of questions as possible.

Q. Did you take any coaching for this exam?

A.

Yes, I was a 2 year classroom student at skolars, Jabalpur. I also took test series from Career Launcher, CLAT Possible, LegalEdge and lawprep.

Q. What study plan did you follow for this exam?

A.

Firstly, I tried to cover the syllabus after that from August I began taking mock tests, since I had my board exams in March. So the months, February-March was mostly devoted to board exam prep along with current affairs.

Q. How did you deal with your strengths and your weaknesses while preparing for the exam?

A.

My weakness was English. I tried to solve as many questions as possible other than that I didn’t read novels or newspapers as I was not able to maintain consistency.

For strong areas, I just took mocks and sectional tests.

Q. Did you refer any books for the exam?

A.

My main preparation was through mocks and sectional tests. Apart from that, I referred to books like English is easy, MK Pandey and Universal (for legal) and also various current affairs compendiums.

Q. What are your hobbies?

A.

None.

Q. What other law entrance exams did you take?

A.

I took CLAT, AILET and SLAT. In terms of difficulty level, AILET was the most difficult followed by CLAT and then SLAT.

Q. How was the experience of taking CLAT different from that of AILET?

A.

I messed up CLAT this time. On the other hand AILET went pretty good. CLAT was easier so I didn’t face shortage of time as compared to AILET but I got stuck in one puzzle and therefore messed up the whole paper.

Q. Was law always your first preference?

A.

Yes, I decided to opt for humanities in class 11th as it can give us more time to prepare for law entrances and we can also study the subjects that will help us later.

Q. Any tips for students who are planning to take the exam next year?

A.

Continuously write mock tests and figure out a strategy for yourself and never ever lose hope. Just have faith in your abilities and be honest to yourself.

Try to meet the deadlines and make a plan for 1 week, 1 month, 6 months at the very beginning of your AILET prep.

It's difficult to say if you can get into an NLU with an AIR of 15466 in CLAT 2024 As to get into one of the top Nlus, general category candidates should aim for a score of 90 or more in CLAT 2024. For SC/ST categories, 60–70 points is considered a decent score.

With a CLAT rank of 30,000, admission to National Law Universities (NLUs) is highly unlikely for their main campuses, as most of them have cutoffs well below this rank. However, you may still have chances in some newer or less competitive NLUs, especially in lower-category programs. It's important t

The National Law University (NLU) admission prospects are slim in view of a CLAT rank of 7616 and an EWS rank of 640. Most of the NLU cut-off ranks tend to be exceptionally lower as compared to general category and EWS candidates, even in some of the most sought-after courses like BA LLB.

As per the NLU Delhi BA LLB (Hons) AILET 2024 cutoff, the AILET  score for general category in 2024 stood at 71. The score for the same category and course stood at 106 in 2023 and 86 in 2022. Based on this trend, it can be said that getting a score between 80 and 90 would be good enough.
