CAT 2024 result has been declared and now is the time for IIM admissiion. Check institute-wise IIM shortlist and WAT-PI dates for MBA admission 2025. Read to know all about IIM shortlist and final admission announcements.

IIM Shortlist 2025 - The 21 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) campuses have started shortlisting of candidates for PGP/MBA admission 2025. IIM Lucknow and IIM Calcutta PI shortlist 2025 has been released and candidates can apply through login. IIM Kozhikode has also started PGP registration for PI shortlisting process. Other IIMs will release their PI shortlist subsequently. Those who will meet the admission cut off percentiles of the IIM will be selected for the WAT-PI round. The IIM shortlisting of candidates is based on their CAT score. The qualifyig CAT 2024 cut offs have been released by several IIMs and they are between 80-90 percentile (General category). The final CAT 2024 cut offs will be much higher as always.

The WAT-PI round will be held in March and April for all IIMs. All the IIMs will complete the final selection process by the end of May 2024. The IIM shortlisting process includes online application submission by candidates for Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) and selection of candidates for the same based on their CAT 2024 result and academic record. Candidates have to fill the shortlist forms to participate in WAT-PI using their CAT login IDs. The WAT-PI round will be conducted in March-April. Q:   How much percentile is a good score in CAT exam?

A:

The CAT (Common Admission Test) is a highly competitive entrance exam for admission to various management programs offered by top business schools in India. The percentile score in CAT exam is based on the relative performance of the test taker compared to all the other test takers.

The cutoff percentile for admission to top business schools varies from year to year and also depends on factors such as the number of candidates, difficulty level of the exam, and the number of available seats. In general, a percentile score of 90 or above is considered a good score and can help you secure admission to some of the top business schools in India. However, to increase your chances of admission to the top-tier business schools, a percentile score of 95 or above is preferred.

Q:   How much CAT score is required for MBA at IIM Ahmedabad?

A:

IIM Ahmedabad considered two kinds of CAT scores for MBA admission - Qualifying and Final score. After qualifying CAT score, the minimum sectional and overall CAT score is used to shortlist students for the Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. The overall CAT qualifying cutoff for 2023 admission at IIM-A stood at 99 for General category candidates, while the final cutoff is considered to stand between 99 and 100 percentile, for other category candidates. Q:   What is the CAT score required for IIM Sambalpur?

A:

The CAT score required for IIM Sambalpur MBA is 92 percentile. The aforementioned cutoff is the IIM Sambalpur MBA 2024 qualifying cut off and not the final cut off. The IIM Sambalpur final cut off is yet to be released. The category wise CAT 2022 qualifying cutoff for IIM Sambalpur MBA is mentioned below:

IIM Shortlisting and Selection Process 2025

The IIM shortlisting and selection process for MBA admission includes three stages.

Stage 1: Shortlisting of candidates on the basis of their CAT exam score

Once the CAT result is announced, the candidates are asked to apply for WAT/GD-PI round by each IIM on its official website basis their CAT score vs CAT cut offs.

Stage 2: Screening of candidates for WAT-GD-PI

In the second stage, the institute shortlists the candidates who applied for WAT-GD-PI on the basis of their CAT score and academic record, and send then WAT-GD-PI invite.

Stage 3: Calculation of Composite Score and Final Selection

In the third stage, the composite score of each candidate is calculated on the basis of parameters such as CAT score, WAT-PI performance, academic history, work experience, diversity, etc. to finalise their selection.

Q:   Are Class 12 marks important for IIM Indore?

A:

The weightage given to Class 12 marks while shortlisting candidates for the personal interview round is 40%, which is the highest among other factors. However, while preparing the final merit list after PI round for admission offers, the weightage of class 12 marks comes down to 10%. Hence, it can be concluded that having a good score in Class 12 is an advantage for candidates seeking admission to IIM Indore MBA.

Q:   What is the CAT score required for IIM Kashipur?

A:

Candidates aspiring to take admission to the MBA programme must meet the overall and section-wise CAT percentile to become eligible for the Personal Interview (PI) round. The minimum overall and section-wise CAT percentile in the year 2022 was 93 for admission to the MBA programme at IIM Kashipuir. Candidates having the required CAT percentile will be shortlisted for the Personal Interview (PI) round. Hence, students are advised to prepare well for the CAT exam and should aim to score accordingly.

Q:   What is the cutoff for IIM Kashipur?

A:

IIM Kashipur CAT cutoff 2023 will be released after the CAT 2023 result. As per the previous year cutoff 2022 and 2021, the CAT percentile was 93 for the General All India category candidates. For ST and Sc category candidates, the CAT percentile were 60 and 70, respectively in 2022 and 2021. 

Considering the previous years percentile, it is expected that IIM Kashipur CAT cutoff 2023 will range between 94-95 for the General category students under the ALL India Quota.

Q:   What is sectional cutoff in CAT exam?

A:

Sectional cut off in CAT exam refers to the section wise percentiles required by the candidate for making it to the Personal Interview round of the IIMs or other top MBA colleges. Q:   What is the cutoff for IIM Trichy?

A:

IIM Trichy admission to the management course is based on CAT scores, followed by WAT, GD & PI porcess. IIM Trichy accepts both qualifying CAT cutoff and final CAT cutoff for admission. However, the institute do not release CAT cutoffs in the public domain and are exclusively accessible only via account login to candidates who have appeared for the exam. Considering the previous year cutoff trends, the estimated CAT 2023 cut off percentiles for IIM Trichy will range between 94 and 95 for the General category students. 

On the basis of IIM admission criteria 2023, IIM Trichy qualifying CAT cutoff 2022 was 93 for the General category students. This year the estimated qualifying CAT cutoff is 93 for the General category students. For SC and ST category students, the estimated qualifying cutoffs are 54 and 40, respectively.

Q: What is IIM Shortlist?

A: IIM shortlist can be defined as the list of CAT test takers who make it to the second phase of IIM admission process, which is Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The IIM shortlist is the list of candidates who are eligible to participate in the WAT-PI rounds of IIMs for MBA admission.

Q: When is IIM Shortlist released?

A: IIM shortlist of top IIMs is released in the first week of January soon after CAT result declaration. All IIMs release their shortlist one by one after that in the same month. By the end of January, all 20 IIMs release their MBA/PGP shortlist. The WAT-PI shortlists for admission to the upcoming session will be released by all IIMs by the January 31, 2025.

Q: Which IIM has highest cut off for MBA admission 2025?

A: IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta have the highest CAT cut off. Every year, the cut off percentiles of these three top IIMs hover around 99-100 percentile. even though the qualifying CAT cut off is lower at 80 or 85 percentile, the final cut offs are the highest among all MBA institutes in India. For, reserved category students the final CAT cut offs of these IIMs are a few percentiles lower. 

Q: What is waitlist in IIM admission?

A: IIM waitlist means the number students who are kept waiting for the second shortlist. The institutes select a number of students for admission out of which some miss the first list due to a few points. Such students are kept in waitlist incase any candidate from the first list chooses to not appear for WAT-PI. Those who are kept in the waitlist are invited for WAT-PI if there are seats remaining to be filled after WAT-PI round of the first batch of the students. Q: How can I check my status in IIM shortlist?

A: The candidates can check their admission status in IIM shortlist of each institute on their respective websites. The IIMs releases their shortlist on different days in the month of January. Once the shortlist is announced, candidates can check their status on the institute’s website by using their CAT login ID. Such candidates can fill the PI form for participating in the WAT-PI round. If shortlisted, they are invited by the institute via email.

Q: What if I do not make it to IIM shortlist? Do I still stand a chance to get admission?

A: No, the students who don’t make it to the IIM shortlist of a particular year, they will not be considered for admission. Such candidates can appear for CAT again the next year and try for admission. If a candidate doesn't make it to the first shortlist, they can wait for the second shortlist to release in which they might be selected.

Q: How is IIM shortlist prepared by the institutes?

A: IIM shortlist is prepared on the basis of CAT cut off, class 10 score, class 12 score, graduation score, work experience (if any). To encourage diversity in the classroom the IIMs award extra points to female and transgender candidates at the time of shortlisting as well as final selection.

Q: What if I have a very good CAT score but poor academic record?

A: If you have a very good CAT score but poor academic record it is quite likely that you may not be shortlisted for top IIMs as the institutes prefer candidates with overall consistency in academics. Class 12 scores holds a lot of importance in shortlisting of candidates for WAT-PI.

Q: How much weightage does CAT score have in IIM shortlist?

A: CAT exam score has the weightage of about 40-60 per cent in IIM shortlist. The weightage varies for each IIM but is in the range of 40-60 per cent. Rest of the weightage is divided between academics, gender and work experience. However, in the final shortlist, weightage of CAT score is less than that of WAT-PI. 

Q: Do I need to apply to IIM again after being shortlisted for WAT-PI?

A: Yes, after being shortlisted for the WAT-PI round, candidates have to fill an online form expressing interest in participating in the WAT-PI round. The admission panel examines all the applications and then shortlist some candidates for WAT-PI round. Selected candidates are informed about date and venue of the WAT-PI round via email. Final selection is based on candidate's performance in WAT-PI and other parameters.

Q: When is the final admission result of IIM shortlist announced?

A: The final IIM admission result after IIM shortlist and WAT-PI is announced in April and May for all 20 IIMs. All the institutes released the final list of selected candidates individually and send admission letters to candidates on different dates. When the candidates receive the selection letter, they have to response via email or login link to accept the offer of admission and then complete the admission formalities within a few days.
