NMAT 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the NMAT, candidates must review the exam and institute eligibility conditions. Candidates failing to meet the NMAT eligibility criteria will face rejections in later stages of the admission process. Space below indicates the NMAT eligibility conditions which remain identical across participating b-schools:

  1. Age limit: There is no age limit to appear for NMAT by GMAC.
  2. Academic qualification: Typical aggregate score required for admission across participating colleges is 50 per cent in bachelor’s level exam. Minimum score requirement in graduation degree may vary across NMAT colleges.
  3. Work Experience: Candidates with work experience are also eligible to apply for NMAT exam.

Q:   Can I give NMAT three times?

A:

Candidates can appear for NMAT exam three times during one admission session. GMAC considers the best of three scores to be sent to the NMAT participating institutes for admission. Candidates who wish to appear for more than one exam take have to fill the retake registration form. The retake registration can be filled after the candidate takes the first exam attempt. While filling the retake registration form, candidates have to pay the registration fee again. Additionally, candidates have to schedule the retake exam.

Q:   Can I appear for the NMAT exam thrice or just once?

A:
As per the official guidelines of NMAT by GMAC, a candidate can appear for the NMAT exam three times during the testing window. The testing window for NMAT generally starts in the first week of October and ends in the third week of December every year. However, it is important to note that each attempt of NMAT requires a fresh registration and payment of the application fee. The candidate needs to go through the entire registration process again for each attempt. It is also essential to keep in mind that the best score among the attempts will be considered for admission to the participating institutes. So, candidates can aim to improve their scores by taking multiple attempts, but they should also prepare well and take the test seriously for each attempt.

Q:   Will my best NMAT score out of three attempts considered for admission?

A:

Candidates can take NMAT up to three times during one admission session. Candidates are allowed to register for NMAT and schedule an exam attempt. However, the acceptance of NMAT scores depends on the NMAT participating colleges. All NMAT colleges may not accept the NMAT scores from any of the three attempts. Some of the NMAT colleges, such as NMIMS will only accept the NMAT score from first exam attempt. Therefore, attempting NMAT exam three times will be of no use if the applican t is desirous of admission to any of the campuses of NMIMS.

Candidates are advised to check the admission policies issued by the NMAT participating colleges to know details on the NMAT score accepting rules.

Participating institutes will have separate eligibility conditions for MBA/PGDM admission through NMAT by GMAC. Candidates are advised to go through the admission policy of their desired b-school accepting NMAT scores.

Another option for those scoring low in CAT exam is applying to non-IIM. Many B-Schools like SPJIMR, IIM DELHI, lal bahadur sastri institute of management accept CAT score between 80-90 percentile. these institutes rank above some of the IIM in the NIRF - MHRF's ranking list.
