Types of NEET Merit List
The NEET 2023 merit list can be divided into three categories. The categories and types of the NEET merit list 2023 are given below:
Overall NEET merit list: This merit list includes the names and ranks of all the candidates who appeared for NEET. This is the first merit list and is prepared by NTA. This merit list will be forwarded to all counselling bodies, both national and state.
15 per cent AIQ merit list: This merit list will contain the names of only those candidates who would qualify for the NEET 2023 result. This merit list is prepared by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
Q: What is the NEET 2024 cutoff percentile for General category candidates?
NEET 2024 cut off percentile for general category students is 50th percentile. Based on this, the NEET cutoff score 2024 for the General category is 162. The NEET 2024 cutoff for the General category candidates of the Physically Handicapped (PH) category candidates is 45 percentile. The subsequent NEET cutoff marks for this category is 144. Although the NEET cutoff percentile for the General category has remained the same, the cutoff score increased from that of last year. This is due to factors such as easier difficulty level, increased number of test-takers and intake.
Q: What is the procedure to calculate the NEET percentile score?
A percentile refers to the comparison between the score of one candidate vis-a-vis the other test takers. It is the percentage of scores that a particular score surpassed. NTA has stated the formula to calculate the NEET percentile, which is given below:
100 multiplied by the Number of candidates with their raw score equal to/ less than the candidate divided by the Total number of candidates who appeared for NEET.
As per the NEET 2023 result data, the highest percentile obtained was 99.9999019.
Q: Will NTA lower the NEET cut off for this year?
NTA did not lower the NEET cutoff for this year. On the contrary, the NEET 2024 cutoff marks is higher as compared to last year. NTA determines the NEET cut off based on the factors such as difficulty level of the exam, total number of test-takers, total number of seats, candidate category and programme.
The table below brings the qualifying or pass marks of NEET over the past few years.
Category | NEET 2024 Qualifying Score | NEET 2023 Qualifying Score | NEET 2022 Qualifying Score
| NEET 2021 Qualifying Score |
---|---|---|---|---|
General/Unreserved (UR) | 720-164 | 720-137 | 715-117 | 720-138 |
OBC/SC/ST | 163-129 | 136-107 | 116-93 | 137-108 |
PwD (General/UR) | 163-146 | 136-121 | 116-105 | 137-122 |
PwD (Reserved) | 141-129 | 120-107 | 104-93 | 121-108 |
Q: What is the expected cutoff for NEET 2024?
There are various factors which determine the NEET cutoff. The basic factors include the difficulty level of the exam, number of test takers, number of seats for admission, among others. The NEET 2024 cutoff is likely to be higher owing to the larger number of test takers as compared to the previous years and the easier difficulty level. Moreover, the number of test takers as well as the MBBS seats has also increased. Hence, there is a high possibility of the NEET 2024 cutoff increasing this year. Last year, the NEET cutoff for the General category candidate was 137-720. According to experts, the NEET 2024 cutoff is likely to be 150-720. NTA will release the NEET 2024 cutoff along with the result, which will be released on June 14, 2024.
Q: What is the difference between NEET score and percentile?
The NEET score and percentile are two different entities, and they serve distinct purposes. Here's the difference between them:
NEET Score:
The NEET score is the actual mark obtained by a candidate in the NEET exam. It is a raw score that reflects the number of correct answers a candidate has attempted. The NEET score is used to determine the qualifying status of a candidate for admission to medical and dental colleges.
NEET Percentile:
The percentile score, on the other hand, indicates the candidate's performance relative to other examinees. It is a measure of how many candidates have scored equal to or below the candidate's score in the exam. The percentile score is calculated by dividing the total number of candidates who appeared for the exam into 100 equal groups, with each group representing a percentile.
For example, if a candidate scores 600 out of 720 in NEET, their percentile score would be around 90, indicating that they have scored higher than 90 per cent of the total candidates who appeared for the exam.
In summary, the NEET score reflects the actual mark obtained, while the percentile score reflects the candidate's relative performance compared to others. Both scores are important, and they serve different purposes in the admission process.
State quota merit list: Every state will prepare their individual merit lists for admissions to 85 per cent of state quota seats. These merit lists will include only those candidates who will qualify for NEET result 2023 and register for the counselling of that respective state.
The overall NEET 2023 merit list will be released on the day of the result. On the other hand, the NEET AIQ merit list and the State Quota merit list will be released by counselling authorities prior to the commencement of the NEET 2023 counselling process.
NEET Cutoff Percentile and Marks
NTA will release the NEET 2023 cutoff marks along with the result. For now, we bring last year’s NEET cutoff marks and percentile for each category. The latest cutoff marks will be provided as and when it is released.

Moreover, the total number of test takers and the number of seats offered through NEET 2023 scores have increased as compared to last year.
