The exam conducting authorities released a notice mentioning the exam dates of the FMGE 2024 exam on October 28, 2024. As per the dates, the exam was conducted on January 12, 2025. Applicants who want to appear in the exam and qualify must take note of it and start preparing for the FMGE exam.

FMGE Previous Year Papers are important source to seek firsthand information regarding the difficulty level of the exam. FMGE Previous Year Papers can be accessed from various books in which previous year questions have been collated by the authors. The FMGE Previous Year Papers are also available on several website in PDF format for the aspirants to download.

The exam conducting body does not allow candidates to retrieve the question paper as the exam is conducted in online mode. Therefore, the available previous year question papers are mostly memory-based and not the actual ones which are asked in the exam.

Q:   How much time does it take to prepare for FMGE exam?

A: 

Candidates pursuing medical degree outside India, if wish to practice medicine profession in India can start preparing for the FMGE exam much before applying for it. There is no defined timeframe which a candidate need to prepare for the exam. The syllabus more or less remains the same and the topics are also covered in the syllabus which is taught at the MD level. FMGE screening test is sought after to seek the medical licensing to practice Doctoral profession in India. This mandates an aspirant to score minimum 50% marks to be able to pass the exam.

Q:   What is the FMGE exam?

A: 
FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) is a licensing examination conducted by the NBE (National Board of Examinations). An Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) who has completed their primary medical qualification from an institution outside India, but wishes to practice in India needs to clear this examination to register with the NMC (National Medical Commission)/SMC (State Medical Council). However, as Foreign Medical Graduate Examination was introduced in the year 2002, students who had completed their primary degree course on or before March 15, 2002, are not required to appear for this examination. One must also note that Foreign Medical Graduate Examination is not an entrance test and cannot be used to take admission to any institute. FMGE is a licensing examination for foreign medical graduates. The exam is held twice a year, in June and December. If someone is not able to clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination exam in December, they can attempt it in the June session.

FMGE December 2024 Preparation Tips

Here are some practical preparation tips to prepare for the FMGE exam which is scheduled to take place in December:

Set Deadlines: With 19 subjects in hand, it is a little tough to manage a schedule that allows for continuous study time. Therefore, set deadlines to avoid any distractions and fatigue in the process. Focus on the task at hand.             

Develop Time Management Skills: Dedicate and divide time slots with content to be covered. Take regular and time-based breaks. Work on maintaining speed and accuracy during the exam.

Follow Topper’s Advice/Strategy: It is advisable to read a few FMGE toppers’ interviews to unlock the secret to success in the exam. The experience and learnings of the toppers will help aspirants succeed in the exam.

Monitor your progress: Maintain a daily logbook. Write what you accomplished and what you couldn’t and set goals for the next day to cover up the lacuna.

Revision is mandatory: Commit the last 15-20 days for revision of the entire syllabus. This is the phase where candidates should focus on brushing up on the skills that they have acquired during the preparatory stage.
